The uber cheap, ultra sweet EVILE show at the Button Factory has been regrettably postponed. The band have had to push out all their up and coming UK and Irish shows. No new date has been announced yet but keep an eye on Dublin Metal Events and Tickets There (I’d go with D.M.E.) for news on the new date. Statement from the band below,

“Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond control we unfortunately have to postpone our upcoming shows in September across the UK & Ireland. We apologise sincerely to everyone who was planning to attend. The shows aren’t being cancelled outright, they will be happening sometime next year so all tickets will still be valid at the same value when the shows have found new dates.

In 14 years of playing shows we have only purposefully cancelled two shows, broken down on the way to four, and missed another two because of delayed flights, which isn’t a bad record for all the years we’ve been playing so postponing these September shows isn’t a decision we’ve made lightly.

When we have new dates for the shows in 2014 we will announce them, as mentioned previously all tickets will still be valid. Again, we apologise for the postponement”.”Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond control we unfortunately have to postpone our upcoming shows in september across the UK & Ireland. Review: EXODUS – Live @ The Button Factory, Dublin (Aug 12th, 2013)

560822_10151828959533200_1667321752_n..”I don’t want you here, I fucking rule this place..”

Rob Dukes to Security, Dublin 2013.

After  three year absence, Exodus are finally back in town. The legendary thrash metallers have been punishing the European festival circuit over the last few weeks and they’re nicely warmed up to give Dublin one of its few international metal nights of 2013. The only question on people’s minds as we enter the venue – will Gary Holt be here?

Sadly, Exodus take to the stage minus their most famous member. Gary is doubling as Jeff Hanneman’s stand in guitarist for Slayer; who are also on tour at the moment. Since Slayer are playing in Belfast tomorrow night, hopes were high Gary would perform both shows but it’s his Exodus stand in, Kragen Lum from Heathen, on stage with the band. That aside, there’s no signs of weakness as Rob Dukes leads his band with immense physical presence and vocal brutality.

1009840_10151828959133200_336802208_nEarly on in the show, tensions rise between Dukes, security and the crowd as the bouncers down front begin dragging as many would be crowd surfers as they can out of the pit. Noticing this, Rob stops to speak with security and informs them crowd surfing is an essential part to any Exodus live show. After speaking with DME to resolve the matter, the band carry on with ‘Children of a Worthless God’. Rob’s attempt at calming security down doesn’t seem to resolve much and throughout the set he gets verbally more annoyed by their actions and snaps at them to calm down and leave fans alone who are trying to have a good time.

Throughout all the commotion (of which there was little on the surface), Exodus plough through a fist full of thrash metal hits with more extremity than most bands can accomplish. While the majority of their set comes from their most famous recordings, 1985’s Bonded By Blood and 1988’s Fabulous Disaster, there is a healthy inclusion of tracks from their past three studio recordings which often compare and trounce their earlier known classics. ‘Blacklist’, ‘Scar Spangled Banner’ from 2004’s Tempo of the Damned are killer inclusions and that’s before the epic, ‘War Is My Shepherd’ which in this reviewers opinion is the greatest metal song of the 21st century. Likewise, four tracks from the Exhibit albums (‘The Ballad of Leonard and Charles’, ‘Beyond The Pale’, ‘Children..’ and ‘Iconoclasm’) continue to show Exodus’s natural knack for song writing hasn’t withered over the years.

Rob Dukes - Standing triumphant after kicking security away from the stage.

Rob Dukes – Standing triumphant after kicking security away from the stage.

As we come to the final songs of the night, Rob again openly engages with security as they get more extreme in their mission to stop crowd surfing. The music stops and Rob orders security out of the pit. At this point, things turn temporarily nasty as security back talk the singer and risk the wrath of ravenous fans at the front. Yours truly holds on for dear life at the barrier,  unable to move or get the camera out to film the tension as security guards speak with fans and the band, trying to work out what to do under the chants of ‘Security out’, ‘fuck off’ and ‘get out’. Eventually, security leave and the roar from fans lifts the roof of the venue. EXODUS win and it is time to party. Finally fans are allowed go properly nuts, with Rob helping crowd surfers up on stage for their dives. I last mere minutes at the front before collapsing back under about three people and it is savage craic. The pit, which had been in full on stampeded mode all night goes into extremities,  but the fans maintain that classic metal gig etiquette of stopping the second anyone falls to allow others to pick them up again. There isn’t a spirit in the house un-lifted by the sher win of it all. It is everything a metal gig used to be and could be. A show you normally only hear about, rather than get to witness in person these days and the best parts happened to the tune of ‘The Toxic Waltz’ and ‘Strike of the Beast’ – not a bad way to go out and quite possibly one of the best metal gigs ever to hit Dublin.

1185952_10151828959338200_1525886034_nOn a personal note, I managed to lose my phone during one of the last tunes. After searching once the band had left the stage there was no sign until someone in the crowd said a lad had found a phone and brought it to bar. Short story short – they had it. I want to say a massive thank you to whoever handed it in. I was originally upset I hadn’t gotten video of Rob’s speech up the front while he kicked security out, but delighted to get the phone back with – the footage of it being knocked out of my hand. All below for your fun. I’ve heard since others lost their phones during the gig and all got them back. To anyone who says a bad word about metallers – tonight you had a gathering of some of the best, most genuine, honest people in the country. Band and fans alike did the metal world proud. Now, off to ice my chest, shoulder and elbow before the Unleashed Festival this weekend!

Def Leppard Announce ‘Viva Hysteria’ Cinema and DVD Release

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , on August 7, 2013 by Tickets There

DefLeppardDublin

UPDATED AUG 18th 2013: IRISH FANS!!!! VIVA! HYSTERIA is coming to Cineworld Cinema, Parnell Street on September 19th for one showing only. Tickets are on sale now priced €10.50 from their Official Website.

Of course, this was most likely down to the article below. There’s no doubt in my mind that Leppard were so blown away by the academic article about their life and times in Ireland that they realized not showing the film in Ireland was a terrible idea. Either way, I have my tickets booked 😀

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

splashpage_r1_c1Bad news for Irish fans – there won’t be a cinema release for Def Leppard’s new live show film – Viva Hysteria. Even though they recorded Hysteria here (guilt), even though they lived, worked and loved it here (guilt, guilt) and even though Joe Elliott lives a stone’s throw away from where I’m sitting (guilt x3) – the band, who stored their equipment in Dublin, recorded their most recent albums in Dublin, practice before tours in Dublin and have brought almost every major tour they’ve ever played here – they won’t be releasing it in Irish cinemas. Well Holy Elliott, I never thought I’d see such a thing. Even just a few days after I posted a loving tribute to you – you’ve gone and assumed Irish fans won’t be interested in sitting through your performance. Well that’s fine, I’m ok. I’m just disappointed that unlike Metallica, unlike Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, unlike One Direction, The Jonas Brothers and Katy Perry – Leppard are the ones I can’t go and see locally.

DVD /Blu-Ray are out October 21st in Europe. For anyone outside of Ireland visit Defleppard.com for more details about local cinema screenings and so on.

…I still love you Leppard, but you have let me down.

..By the way, everyone should read that in a comically old fashioned guilt implying voice 🙂

Def Leppard In Ireland – A Quick Look (using Google Street View)

leppIre

oldpunchbowl

houseWell maybe it’s Dublin’s fault that Leppard are not releasing Viva Hysteria here… So let’s remind Leppard of our history together. According to DefLeppardUK, the band have played in Ireland a total of 14 times (Tickets There has managed to catch six of those shows) since their first gig on these shores in 1983.

They moved to Ireland in the mid-80’s when recording Hysteria and lived just outside the city centre in a little house pictured on your left. Their local was a lovely bar called The Old Punch Bowl (‘actual real authentic legit’ group photo outside the pub can be seen above) Remember lads – remember the good times. while here, they worked on their classic album – Hysteria.

thefLeppard loved it so much in Ireland, they decided to store their gear here and some of them even bought houses. The suspected venue where that gear was stored can be ever so slightly seen on the right. I’m not giving out details because they might still be keeping things here and I know you lot go mental for stalking. All those times I be blogging stuff and ye go mental – well no more! From now on I’ll drip feed the lot of ye.

2013newsfeb6After a few of the lads moved away (unconfirmed), it was mighty Lepp frontman, Joe Eliott, who kept the DEF torch burning this side of the UK. He has lived in Ireland since the 80’s and darn well loves it here. In fact, he likes it so much he even wanted the Gards to continue policing the area he lives in (again, picture) when they announced the station closures.

Well that’s it for now. Maybe I’ll do a real article some day, but that should be enough to help get public interest started on the 100% official genuine Def Leppard walking tour of Dublin. I leave you with a then and now shot of The Point Depot / The O2. The then photo features Leppard in the 80’s just sitting around – proper Rock (and I feel like some gimp-Perez Hilton type who needs a shower to wash off the words).

Happy Birthday Joe Elliott

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music with tags , , , , , on August 1, 2013 by Tickets There

2006+Billboard+Music+Awards+Arrivals+U4wWlFAXKEolJoe Elliott, iconic frontman of Sheffield legends, Def Leppard, turns 54 today. For the past twenty one years, I have looked on Joe Elliott as the perfect example of how to be a rock star (except frequent exceptions for Monsieur Rose) should be.

Joe, you’ve been an inspiration to millions. You are a God on the arena stage and you front one of the greatest bands of all time. You’ve managed to avoid the pretentious rock star life of the 21st century and kept a band running for more than three decades without ever falling to the paparazzi invasion and vicious public spats. You’ve helped Leppard carry on through immense personal tragedy, loss and missed opportunities – but you’ve always come out swinging; bigger and badder than ever. You still drink and eat meat which alone (according to me and Alice Cooper) is top notch and you still make time to hang out with up and coming rock bands, helping them record their albums in your studio and just being a legend. You kicked a guys ass for pushing Ian Hunter (proper order!) and, on top of all that, you’ve earned your title as ‘the nicest guy in rock’ – Dave Grohl can never touch that. I’ve only had the pleasure of one very quick meeting with you but you were totally cool and one day I hope to buy you a pint.

Joe Elliott, I salute you and hope that younger generations will continue to see the magic you and the Leppard lads create. Have a wonderful birthday and please do not worry that I’m on route to your house… I’ve said too much :p

Happy Birthday Joe, hope you have a great one!

Going to The Academy soon? Something you should see

1960 / 2013 – The Adelphi ‘Then and Now’

I had the privilege of attending three shows at The Academy over the past month (I say privilege because deadly bouncers, nice bar staff and great crowds always make it a pleasure to visit) and that always leads to one thing for Tickets There – wistful smoke breaks that generally devolve into drunken lectures as the night lingers on. Why? Well it’s all technically because of a garage across the street… yup.

A3Stones

Picture of Mick Jagger on stage at the Adelphi in 1965

Across from the Academy is the large beige façade of Arnotts car park. A looming, dull wall with a rectangle cut out on the ground level. Not noticeable, not notable and not something younger generations of gig goers would bother passing much heed of. But for those born after the 80’s (I’m not referring to myself there I’m afraid) or to those not from Dublin, there’s something a little more special about that car park than you might realize. Before Arnotts moved in, that garage used to be the Adelphi Cinema, the original iconic live music venue in Dublin.

A1Beat

A ticket stub from The Beatles 1963 Dublin show

Now I’m not going to head into some rant about the amazing acts that played there, the travesty that it was pulled down and so on; I’ll leave that to The Guardian. But many, many influential artists played very high profile shows at the height of their careers in the Adelphi. Johnny Cash, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones are just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to this famous car park. The Beatles played their only show ever in The Republic at the Adelphi. Bob Dylan brought his infamous 1966 world tour to the theatre. It was the portal for the introduction of live rock ‘n’ roll to strict, Christian Ireland.

Fortunately, for those of you who wouldn’t be arsed paying money to see it as a museum (because really, staring at an empty stage is fun and all), the outside of the building is still very recognizable when compared to its 1960’s self (pretty decent of Arnotts to keep it recognizable in fairness). So if you’re at the Academy, pop out and have a look. It’s not important, it’s not very relevant any more really – but it’s kind of cool. Standing outside a purpose built live venue, you can see the roots of live pop/rock music in Dublin and see how far things have come… well, The Academy is nothing like a car park, but you get the picture. For those of you that didn’t I’ve included some.

The evening performance was slightly better. Carl Wilson had been rushed through Irish customs, got to the Adelphi, picked up a guitar and shot onto the stage for half of their performance. Def Leppard to Star in Viva Hysteria! Reality Show

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on July 23, 2013 by Tickets There

realityMany of Def Leppard’s army of fans will remember the disappointment of not being able to attend their residency in Last Vegas earlier this year. Fortunately, Bunim / Murray Productions, AEG and the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Vegas have stepped up to offer fans a chance to get an inside glimpse into the mighty Lepp’s world.

Def Leppard have been announced as the first artists so star in a new hard rock TV series. The multi-episode show will follow the band’s stay in Vegas; on and off the stage and provide a rare opportunity to see the chemistry the band has, that enables them to remain a dominant force in music after more than  35 years together. The show is currently called ‘Living With Def Leppard’, but Tickets There has suggested better titles such as ‘Reality of Vegas’, ‘Love and Las Vegas’, ‘Reality Bites’ and the ultimate – ‘Pour Some Reality on Me’. I’m expecting to hear back from the band momentarily.

No word on when the series will air as of yet but TT will let you know as soon as we do.

On a personal note, I hate reality TV with a venomous passion – but given the nature of this one, I’ll withhold judgement until I see it. Leppard could be risking serious personal humiliation (Ozzy, Metallica), massive drops in wider respect (Ozzy, Metallica) and a long crawl back to their current height if all goes tits up (…Metallica – Ozzy had Sabbath and it worked!). Or, they could be doing something wicked cool (Metallica – A Year and a Half In The Life of… – certainly not Some Kind of Monster). Let’s see how episode one goes, but either way it’ll be nice to see Leppard on the telly more often. Maybe then Joe can make a s*x tape and ‘’’leak’’’ it online and get them into celebrity big brother.

Metallica Release ‘Through The Never’ Trailer

Posted in Music, News with tags , , on July 22, 2013 by Tickets There

1072137_10151504358350264_1649451021_oI won’t lie; Tickets There is excited as hell about the upcoming Metallica film – Through The Never and it’s only a couple of months away. For those who haven’t heard about this yet, Metallica are releasing a live concert film. Being Metallica, it isn’t just a movie though. It’s a live concert, mixed into an actual scripted film and it’s going to be released in 3D IMAX!

The story follows earned boy/roadie – Trip, as her undertakes an urgent mission for Metallica while they’re on stage. However, once outside the arena, Trip faces a ‘surreal adventure’ in a city descending into anarchy.

For the show, Metallica went and recreated many props and stunts from their most famous tours including the electric chair from Ride The Lightening, Lady Justice From …and Justice For All and the stage collapse from the Cunning Stunts shows. All in all, it looks like an epic masterpiece.

Tickets There will let you know as soon as we find somewhere in Ireland that’ll be showing it.

ALICE COOPER SPEAKS THE TRUTH!

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , on July 22, 2013 by Tickets There

alicecooperGood on Alice Cooper – always reliable to be a total legend and a voice of reason in this increasingly watered down world. Last week, Alice came out the quote of the year – “Don’t call [Mumford & Sons] rock ‘n’ roll. That’s an offence to rock ‘n’ roll”.

Alice was reacting to the 1800’s shop keepers being nominated for Billboard’s ‘Rock Song of the Year’ award for their tune, [who cares?]. Alice proceed to elaborate on the comment by suggesting they need get a little meat into their system and perhaps Billboard needs to re-examine their idea of Rock ‘N’ Roll.

”I look at a magazine and it says ‘best new rock band’ and I go, ‘Rock bands don’t have accordions or lutes in them’,”

”I just feel like this whole generation maybe need to all eat a steak,”

“Maybe they just need to quit eating vegetarian food and get out there and get some blood pumping in their system”

Alice Cooper – I love you. Read more at The Sydney Morning Herald. For now, let’s bask in some real R’N’R from Mr. Cooper himself,

The Finnish über glam rockers have remained semi-tight lipped about their next effort until last night and today when they announced the release date and also the art work for Spirit. The band have also confirmed some song titles and that their next single will be ‘So Happy I Could Die’ which is due for release later this year.

[Updated 23/07] Track listing has just been release.

2. Bad Lovin’
3. I Love Heavy Metal
4. Favorite Flavor
5. Edge Of Our Dreams
6. Sex, Drugs & Reckless Love
7. Dying To Live

The group have announced a U.K tour for later this yet but there are currently no Irish dates included. Tickets There is of course disgusted and will be moaning about it to the band on their Facebook page until this issue is resolved. Anyone who saw them play Crawdaddy in 2010 and Whelan’s in 2011 will understand.

The Devil’s Den Tattoo Fundraiser Announced

Two years ago, one of the funnest (it’s a word – I added it to the Word dictionary) metal nights in Dublin was born – CLUB CARNAGE making today their birthday. Happy Birthday guys

The club is celebrating in style with a wicked line-up of bands in Fibbers tonight. CHAOS A.D. (Sepultura tribte) will headline a bill that also features Xenocide, BeltBuckle Overdrive, Atominated and Snowblind. No word on tickets but Carnage is always dead cheap or free so just go and you’ll be happy out. Doors are @9pm – Fibber MaGees, Dublin.

Oh, Chaos A.D. are labelled ‘Old school Sepultura’, so you won’t have any of that Derrick Green nonsense to worry about.

Break-in at Into The Void Records – Tattoo Equipment Stolen

Posted in Music, News with tags , , on July 15, 2013 by Tickets There

intothevoidOne of Dublin’s chief independent record stores, Into The Void, was broken into last night which has resulted in a decision to move the premises to another location soon.

Worst of all, about €2,000 of Tattoo equipment from The Devils Den Tattoos was stolen by the scumbags. ITV are asking for folks to be on the lookout for anyone selling Tattoo equipment around town and if you hear of it – please contact the store immediately. The owner of Devils Den is on tour at the moment so please send all details to Into The Void directly.  You can contact them through their Facebook page located HERE.

If you know anyone who works in the tattoo industry or owns a tattoo studio – please let them know to be on the lookout for dodgy sellers.

Full list of missing equipment coming soon.

Congratulations WARPATH – 2013 Irish M2TM Winners!

970756_690323680993089_2100694245_nThe WARPARTY is heading to England as Warpath have won this year’s Bloodstock Metal To The Masses final.

On Saturday night, Warpath competed against some of the finest bands in Ireland to take home the prize. They took on the might of Psykosis (you know we lovvve them), Animator (who were amazing and we love them too), AeSect (going to stop the bracket thing now – it’s annoying….but AeSect are savage as well), We Know Jack and Spector and still managed to conquer all. Not an easy thing to do, especially considering all the other bands TT managed to catch (before succumbing to sickness) put on incredible shows.

Tickets There would like to wish Dar and the lads a big congratulations and wish them the best of luck at Bloodstock next month when they play alongside the likes of SLAYER, KING DIAMOND, ANTHRAX, EXODUS, GOJIRA, MUNICIPAL WASTE, DARK FUNERAL, ACCEPT and many, many more. Warpath will also now have performance slots at Wacken Open Air 2014 along with two other festivals. Not a bad prize at all and we know they’ll kick ass.

Well done lads and good luck!

Warpath1*Old file photo – TT just wan’t up to getting down front on Saturday. Too bloody hot!
