Review: Reckless Love – Spirit

Posted in Album Review, Music with tags , , , , , , on September 2, 2013 by Tickets There

img_54601No matter how much metal you’re into, you still need something anthematic for those Friday and Saturday nights. Vader and Deicide are great and all, but they won’t have your singling along with fists raised on the dance floor when the thirteenth Jägerbomb. No, in times like that you need to turn to something else and Reckless Love are increasingly becoming that band for yours truly.

Their third album, Spirit, hits shelves in the UK today and if you had any expectations about what the band was aiming for this time – you’re probably right on the nose. Spirit is chock full of anthems, hair-metal riffs, solos and great fun. Opening with the first single, ‘Night On Fire’, the album is set up for quality sing along fun, which wanes just a little bit on ‘Bad Lovin’. Not an awful song, but as Pierre said – probably should have stayed in Finnish. ‘I Love Heavy Metal’ pays homage to the classic Def Leppard Hysteria sound and tips its hat at just about every major band from the genre. Great tune and you know what? I love heavy metal too lads!

1277220_10150322447189960_1989641591_oFavourite Flavour’ is fast, chorus filled and fun before ‘Edge of Our Dreams’ goes further down that old pop rock ballad road. Not something that would light my fire, maybe it’ll light yours. Everything gets firmly back on track for the classic ‘Sex, Drugs and Reckless Love’. Great 80’s KISS guitar up front, smashing chorus; a wonderful little number from the boys.  ‘Dying to Live’ hints back at Mighty Leppard and ballad territory but avoids the overly poppy feel of ‘Edge of Our Dreams’. On repeat spins, the appeal only grows and you find yourself a cracking new RL tune to enjoy.

Here at TT we’re trying to move away from these song by song reviews so let’s cut through the red tape and say one thing – the second half of Spirit kicks ass! ‘Metal Ass’ is just brilliant for reasons that will become apparent when you hear it (damn heavy for RL), ‘Runaway Love’ is another attempt at pop ballad world and delivers another success for the band. Not a standout track, but enjoyable. The licked up ‘So Happy I Could Die’ is another winner before ‘Hot Rain’ stands up to become numero uno ballad of the album. For the first real time on Spirit the band deliver a soulful, passionate ballad and round Spirit off on a high.

Call them pop, call them wuss rock or a guilty pleasure, Reckless Love know how to write fun filled catchy tunes. If you’re too uptight, too serious or generally can’t acknowledge good fun music – then you need these guys more than anyone else. As for fans, Spirit is a winner. It’ll put a smile on your face, a beat in your heart and give you another reason to treat Reckless Love with some well earned respect.

Reckless Love Release ‘So Happy I Could Die’

Posted in Music, Music Video, New Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , on August 23, 2013 by Tickets There

20130823-111825.jpgThe second single from their forthcoming album, Spirit, is here! Fans have been waiting with pained faces and bated breath for the follow-up to ‘Night On Fire’ and our favourite Finnish lads have delivered. ‘So Happy I Could Die’ is an excellent harder rock swagger than anything we’ve heard from the lads in a while. You can almost hear their Guns N’Roses era sound stream through as the song harks back to bad ass tunes like ‘Garden of Eden’, before propelling into one of their classic anthemic pop rock masterpieces.

Reckless Love are a band normally filed under guilty pleasures, but that’s not where they belong. We need more Reckless Love in our daily lives. Nightclubs, bars, bands, trains, planes and automobiles – everyone should be playing Reckless Love everywhere all the time. A phenomenal portal to fun, frolics and awesomeness. We need more Reckless Love and less everything else.

Spirit will see its official; release on August 30th. It’s the bands third album and currently shaping up to be their best! Dearest RL and DME, please find a way to return to Ireland this year. We need ye!

The Finnish über glam rockers have remained semi-tight lipped about their next effort until last night and today when they announced the release date and also the art work for Spirit. The band have also confirmed some song titles and that their next single will be ‘So Happy I Could Die’ which is due for release later this year.

The group have announced a U.K tour for later this yet but there are currently no Irish dates included. Anyone who saw them play Crawdaddy in 2010 and Whelan’s in 2011 will understand.

Finally! Finnish glam metallers, Reckless Love, have released ‘Night On Fire’, the first single from their forthcoming, third album. Night on Fire takes no time whatsoever to warm up – it’s a fiery, fantastic piece of cock-pop-rock that displays their incredible knack for anthematic, sing along guitar laced music. The voodoo video can be seen below and is well worth several watches. Great tune for a happy/sunny Friday!

There’s no set release date for the, as of yet unnamed, third album, but the band have hinted it’ll see the light of day either late summer/early autumn. According to lead guitarist Pepe, the band already has 15 songs recorded so full steam ahead! It will follow 2011’s Animal Attraction. All hail Finland – All hail Reckless Love (Welcome back lads!)

The band who have put out two albums to date (2010’s self-titled debut and 2011’s Animal Attraction) have been very mysterious about their new music and this clip isn’t going to help explain much. Check it out and see if it tickles your fancy (naughty).

Tickets There: Song Of The Year: BOO YEAH!

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music, Single Review, Special Features with tags , , , , , , on December 31, 2011 by Tickets There

I think it’s fair to say that Tickets There has not been the most prolific writer of 2011! Well 2012 will see a change to that and *gob smacked horror* we’re gonna start writing again AND! It’ll be the best of metal / rock and the odd other from about this fine green land of ours (Holland!)……ok, sorry (*real brackets commence*)(EIREbaby!). Before all that, we’re going to take one final attempt at basking in what feel is easily the most impressive, memorable, kick ass, slow bruiser of a 2011 tune. If we’d put the title in the subject line you’d be home by now! Don’t be afraid to try new things, variety is the problem child of life –some things you just can’t reach…a love for, Reckless Love is not one of those things.

Song of 2011, sad to say we haven’t listened to a lot of new stuff this year, but we couldn’t escape Reckless Love ‘Animal Attraction’! When we first heard it, Tickets There was not happy. Copious amounts of coffee, staff meetings, dialogs, ‘Live Reviews – this is an active link….to the post below’ back and forth, firings, hiring’s, dialog, ass holes, bleach, Guinness, Amber Leaf, the lovelies, Jägermeister redbull, vodka, coke-a, Jack Daniels (ish), Def Leppard, Alice, Cooper, Steel Panther, ASH, Thin Lizzy. Motley Crue and mother-f**king love for all things rock ‘n’ roll – Reckless have won out. TLC b*tch of a song. Merry Christmas, Santa came early. Reckless Love, Animal Attraction is the tune, stones engraved, sermon delivered; now rock the hell out and get down with this bad son of a loving she devil!

Review: Reckless Love – Live @ Whelan’s, Dublin (Dec. 2nd 2011)

Posted in Gig Review, INTO-NOISE!, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , on December 4, 2011 by Tickets There

Is there anything better than glam metal? Def Leppard did it best (not open for debate), Guns N’ Roses made it dangerous and Bon Jovi tried to kill it; but 2011 sees a plethora of young bands revitalizing one of music’s most infamous genres. About bloody time!

In the thirty odd years since Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Guns N’ Roses and the likes took that old blues rock n roll, dumped a tonne of eye liner, Jack Daniels and explicit west coast sex into the mix; a lot has changed in the world. Geeks have taken over, bands ware scarves, converse, recycle like Germans and …God help us, Chris Martin and Thom Yorke are even considered rock stars. Don’t panic, there’s hope! Tonight, Finland’s extremely credible successor to Hanoi Rocks; Reckless Love are in Dublin to inject a little sleaze into our cold Irish blood.

Last year the band visited Ireland on their ‘Back To Paradise tour’ in support of their self-titled debut LP. Now they’re back with a new album, ‘Animal Attraction and a jump in venue; going from Crawdaddy to Whelan’s. A pint of the black stuff in hand, hair down; it’s time to rock n roll with openers The Dirty Youth who, if nothing else, manage to deliver a little ‘eazy on the eyes’ warm up. Not implying anything…. While we may not speak for everyone, this concert goer found it difficult to focus on their music right off due to the sight of their lovely lead singer Danni Monroe in short shorts. Yes, Tickets There likes short shorts. So, all’s well and they don’t sound bad either.

Taking the stage shortly after, tonight’s’ headliners easily manage to jump that all important step from opening act to main attraction. Pepe (guitars), Hessu (drums, crowd control) and Jalle (bass) take positions and kick into the group’s latest single, ‘Animal Attraction’. As the slow drums and feedback guitar fill the PA, lead singer Olli Herman slides on stage, teasing the impressive array of young Irish fillies lined up at the front. Despite some worries about Animal Attraction lacking in the balls department, Reckless prove the new material has just as much umpf as their standards, Animal Attraction and following track ‘Speedin’ deliver everything that’s good about the glam scene. Guitars, solos, speed and born-to-be-rock stars. ‘Badass‘ from their début comes next giving all fans the first major rallying point of the night. As calls come from the crowd for him to remove his shirt and a degree of tension from the ladies as he ponders it, Olli endorses the sound man and a few audience members to remove theirs first and start “to have romances together”. Ice firmly broken, let’s go.

The set is mostly taken from their new record with eight tracks getting an airing tonight. Born To Break Your Heart, Animal Attraction’s first single, ‘Hot’ and ‘Fantasy’ all get the band’s special live treatment and deliver a few instantly enjoyable riffs and chorus’s. The band blaze through tonight’s show with professional ease and arena style antics. Every pose, pout and kick are reminiscent of the greats; but revitalized with youthful energy from a band with a long career ahead of them.

Romance bring things back their full fighting harmonic best before the set gets rounded off with new tracks ‘Dirty Dreams’, ‘On The Radio’ and ‘Dance’. With the band fully in form and winning the crowd over with their new material, the return to their debut for the final pounding. ‘Wild Touch’ explodes from the PA like a panther, sounding stronger and more aggressive than any recording could capture. Returning for the encore, the band demand one final roar from the crowd before bringing it home with the cock rock-tastic ‘Beautiful Bomb’ and the anthematic ‘One More Time’. That’s twice Dublin Metal Events have had them over and hopefully they’re the first visits of many. Reckless Love are not a band you want to miss next time.

Dublin Metal Events: Upcoming 2011 / 2012 Shows

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 20, 2011 by Tickets There

The good folks over at D.M.E. (Dublin Metal Events) have an savage line-up of shows ready to suit the needs of every shot downing, leather wearing, long haired legend in the country. Whether you love rock, hard rock, glam rock, heavy metal, Celtic metal, black metal, death metal or sher, unadulterated gore infestation of the most ancient, alien-enslaving nature – DME got your back ya’ll.

Kicking us off is one of the foundation stones of Irish metal, Primordial. Celebrating two decades together, Primordial will be blowing the walls of the Academy this Saturday after an incredible year that’s seen them finally earn the respect they (and the Irish metal scene) deserve. Since it’s not TT’s cup of tea, we’re not going to bandwagon jump here – but it’s great to see an Irish act get some real recognition. It’s been twenty years, but incredibly enough it might just be the beginning.

Next big one on the TT Calendar (well actually, the first one on our own gig planner) – Norwegian black metal lovelies, 1349. Named after the year the Black Death gripped Norway, 1349 intend on re-igniting the flame of Lucifer in The Pint on October 15th in what will hopefully be a full on corpse-paint blood fest. Wonder how our Def Leppard love will go down with this crowd?

Second on our own planner (all dates listed below – no need to panic), Gorgoroth & Vader @ The Button Factory on November 12th. Now, TT doesn’t know a whole pile about Gotgoroth (aside from folks constantly saying they’re frickin’ amazing!) but we managed to catch Vader’s last Irish show in Whelan’s and that’s enough for us. Without a doubt Poland’s premier metal band and one you should do anything you can to see live.

The Quireboys introduce a little good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll into the line-up when they play Whelan’s on November 27th. Sing along with their classics and you can enjoy Belfast’s Million $ Reload, who’ll be joining them on the night as support. Both bands get a double TT thumbs up which, as you all know, is the highest mark of respect in the world!

Bringing us towards the end of 2011 will be two almost back to back hair metal bonanza nights. First up, The excellent Reckless Love who’ll be hitting Whelan’s on December 2nd for a night of hairspray, spandex and some of the best rock n roll classics ever to emerge out of Finland (Hanoi who now?). Again anyone that was at their Crawdaddy show will agree that this gig promises to be something very special. After that we get some Swedish glam rock from Crashdiet who’ll also be abringing local lads Eazy Tyger along for support. Anyone that hasn’t seen them in a while would do…alright to check out their regular show in Gypsy Rose as there’s a new singer and new sound…well, newish. Both nights promise to make for a great end to 2011 with one final surprise up DME’s sleeve…..

Beasts of the night, enslavers of men and the all-round overlords of the Universe – GWAR will be ringing in the New Year in chaotic fashion when they arrive on stage in Dublin’s Button Factory on Januray 17th to show people how gore metal and stage theatrics should be done. GWAR have always been the pinnacle of on stage extremity with January’s show promising to be one of the highlights of the decade, let alone the year. More details still to be confirmed for this one but D.M.E. are hoping to have this sorted later in the week.

So to sum up, we’re not exactly stuck are we? All tickets are on sale now from Into The Void Records and Ticketmaster.ie (and outlets nationwide) for all events (except GWAR for the moment) and you’ve also got shows from Onslaught, Christ Agony, Evile and Hail of Bullets just in case none of the above appeal to you (although you should ask yourself ‘what sort of person isn’t infatuated by GWAR?’. We say bad people!!). Full list of gigs is available below, keep checking D.M.E.’s official website for more details.
