578689_10152108273158200_2075649842_nLooking back on 2013 as we begin the new year, I cannot move Tickets There on without recognising one of the true highlights of live music I’ve ever been fortunate to witness. On the 12th day of winter – International day of heavy metal, December 12th 2013 – BLACK SABBATH finally brought their reunion tour to Irish shores.

Sabbath proved themselves as a powerful live force and their performance was beyond reproach. They blew out classic after classic with songs from last year’s 13 blending in seamlessly, almost like they have always been there. An excellent night enjoyed by everyone.

179768_487701321298605_1830468239_nRock legends Skid Row and Ugly Kid Joe are setting out on a co-headlining tour of Europe and have included two dates this side of the continent. They’ll be visitng Belfast’s Limelight on October 29th and Dublin’s Button factory on October 30th. Official blurb from DME below and the official Facebook Event Page for Dublin can be found here.

The tour promises a great night of rock that you can sing along to from beginning to end. SKID ROW and UGLY KID JOE announce a 29 city, 12 country co-headline tour of Europe and the UK. Dates will kick off in England on Oct 22nd and run through Nov 26th ending in Austria. With combined sales of millions of albums, each band will play a full set of the songs fans want to hear.

Led by founding members Rachel Bolan, Snake Sabo and Scotti Hill, along with powerhouse vocalist and 14 year veteran of the band Johnny Solinger and new drummer Rob Hammersmith , SKID ROW will deliver the best from their catalogue of gold and platinum albums and anthemic singles like “Youth Gone Wild”, “Monkey Business”, “I Remember You”, “18 & Life” and many more. They will also showcase tracks from their new mini-album United World Rebellion Chapter 1 which features songs such as “Kings Of Demolition” and “ This Is Killing Me”, tracks which easily stand up along with the band’s classics.

After a run of hugely successful festival dates in Summer 2012, UGLY KID JOE’s Whit, Klaus and Cordell, along with Snot/ Sevendust guitarist Sonny Mayo and Zac Morris are back for their first full European tour. In Summer 2013, they will release Stairway To Hell, their first new music since 1996. The album features six brand new songs along with three acoustic versions of songs from their past. SLAYER Announce August Date for Belfast

Posted in Gig Listing, Music with tags , , , , , , on June 13, 2013 by Tickets There

IMG_5016Well it’s the fourth post in a row about these guys, but why the hell not! The mighty Slayer have officially announced a second 2013 date for Belfast which is happening August 13th. Fans were surprised when a second Belfast date wasn’t added after the first gig sold out in three minutes. But, when gig shirts were bought in Dublin on Monday, a second (at the time, unannounced) gig magically appeared on their roster.

The band will again play the Limelight with tickets going on sale tomorrow from ticketmaster.ie priced £38 plus booking fees. If you missed their Dublin/Belfast gigs – you would be well advised to catch them at this one.

Dave Lombardo Officially Out of Slayer

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 31, 2013 by Tickets There

slayer_dave

The news we were all dreading and expecting has arrived. Dave Lombardo is officially out of SLAYER…. Again. Slayer confirmed the news last night and named Paul Bostaph as their new drummer. That’s right, it’s 1992 again.

Paul took over the sticks from Dave 19 years ago when the band had their last major falling out drummed with them on Divine Intervention, Undisputed Attitude, Diabolus In Musica and God Hates Us All before leaving due to an elbow injury which lead to a reconciliation between the band and Dave.

Dave has been absent from the band this time since February when apparent monetary disagreements left Dave out of an Australian tour. The confirmation that he is fully out will add more sadness to Slayer fans after losing founding member and legend, Jeff Hanneman earlier this month. Hopes were high that Jeff’s passing might help the lads see what’s really important and reunite as a band. Unfortunately this is not the case. Their touring line-up for 2013 will be completed by Gary Holt from Exodus filling in for Jeff.

Slayer play Dublin’s Academy on June 10th and 11th before playing Belfast on June 12. All three dates are sold out.

Nine Inch Nails Added to Belsonic 2013

Posted in Gig Listing, Music with tags , , , , , , , on May 31, 2013 by Tickets There

318_35115938199_2875_nTrent Reznor is back, as are his greatest creation. Movie soundtracks? Bollocks! Trent knows his rightful place is at the helm of industrial music’s answer to ABBA (does that make sense? It’s late, you’re probably not reading this too closely anyway. Look at the pretty picture. I took that in 2007).

Nine Inch Nails are the latest headliners to join the Belsonic festival this year.  I’ll be honest – all the dates suck except August 21st when NIN will make their return to Irish shores with And So I Watch You From Afar supporting. How freaking good does that sound?

Tickets are on sale tomorrow morning, Friday May 31st @ 09:00am priced £30.

Review: Whitesnake – Live @ The Odyssey Arena, Belfast (May 16th, 2013)

Posted in Gig Review, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 20, 2013 by Tickets There

whitesnakeMaiden, Metallica, Sabbath and now Whitesnake – for some reason Dublin is missing out on a lot of high quality metal and rock shows these last couple of years; with the bands choosing to play up north instead. In some ways it sucks, but if you’re from the north it’s probably a long overdue welcome. In fairness, a few minutes walking around Belfast or nearly any other northern city/town and you see streets chock-full of Maiden, Motorhead, and Scorpions t-shirts; far more than you tend to see this side of the border. With that comes a high expectation of a good rock crowd for gigs though and tonight, that expectation isn’t met. It’s not Belfast’s fault, I’ve had great fun there before. It certainly isn’t Whitesnake or Thunder’s fault.…hmmmmm.

20130520-174249.jpgThunder bang on first; a hearty thirty minutes after the doors open. Despite the earliness of the show (and the strict no smoking rule in the Odyssey), there’s a throng of seated and standing fans in to witness the return of Thunder to the live arena. After several on / off years – the band are now on their first major tour in years with appearances at Download and Wacken also on the bill. They show their age slightly in the unadvised leaps in the air, beer bellies slipping out, and occasional sloppiness, but they go down well and have a laugh. Danny Bowes even manages to pull a few reluctant sing alongs out while those first pints ease us into relaxation.

Whitesnake, on the other hand, have rarely left the colossal amphitheatres they helped create. David Coverdale is a huge presence on stage and he wins his crowd through a perfect mixture of charisma, talent, charm and, of course, complete tongue in cheek cheesiness and comically refined expletives. David is rock’s greatest love poet and after 35 years at the helm of this band, still has the chops to back it all up. Yes, Tickets There is a fan.

20130520-174542.jpgWhitesnake emerge in great spirits with no pretention, bluster or pandering. Smiles beam from their faces as they cross the stage and see the packed room explode with delight. ‘Give Me All Your Love’ roars out sounding as sharp as it did in 1987. Although the crowd seem to out sing Whitesnake’s PA, there’s a distinct lack of atmosphere from some pockets and their merchandise, beige and stripped ‘recreational’ shirts and corduroy give the game away. They’re here for one thing – ‘Don’t Stop Believing’. That’s right, there’s a Journey show happening after Whitesnake and these guys have gotten in early. Most watch the show with the same enthusiasm they’d review the stocks on CNN. While Whitesnake shred through ‘Ready an’ Willing’, ‘Can You Hear The Wind Blow’ and the epic, ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart Again’, the older Journey fans stare blankly, sipping glasses of wine. The younger ones spend the time shouting at each other about the cheap brand WKD on sale and how they love ‘Thunderstruck’. Not the best mix for a rocking atmosphere.

20130520-174332.jpgOn stage, the snake continue to bash out a set nicely mixed between classic favourites like ‘Is This Love’ and ‘Gambler’ (lovingly dedicated to the memory of former WS guitarist, Mel Galley), to newer material ‘Love Will Set You Free, ‘Steal Your Heart Away’ and ‘Forevermore’. The roaring guitar duel between Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach shreds through the crowd before the battle continues with a taste of ‘Best Years’ and a final kicking of Whitesnake standards, ‘Bad Boys’, ‘Fool For Your Loving’, ‘Here I Go Again’ and the number one – ‘Still of the Night’. Whitesnake gracefully bow and thank the crowd before departing into the warm Belfast night. This blogger takes a page from their book and scarpers. Journey fans are approaching the arena and f**k knows what could happen……something very exciting we’re sure….coughs.

(My sincerest apologies for the terrible photos. I hung on towards the back and yes, I regret that now…. and I may have been drinking)

SLAYER Confirm 2013 Summer Tour Will Go Ahead

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on May 9, 2013 by Tickets There

20130509-195351.jpgIn the wake of losing SLAYER co-founder, Jeff Hanneman, last week, Tom Araya and Kerry King have just released a statement confirming their summer tour will go ahead as had been widely expected.

The band announced the news by posting the following statement on their Facebook page.

NOTE FROM TOM AND KERRY TO UK/EURO FANS:

“We know that our fans everywhere are hurting for the loss of Jeff just as we are.
We want to let you all know that when we come to Europe this summer in June, July and August, we’ll ALL be making noise together for our brother and dear friend Jeff… We’ll See you then!”

The statement will be slightly worrying to fans as original drummer, Dave Lombardo isn’t mentioned. Dave has been estranged from his band mates since March of this year. Exodus guitarist, Gary Holt will continue filling in Jeff’s position while Jon Dette is presumed to stay behind the kit.

Slayer play Dublin’s Academy on June 10th and 11th and The Limelight, Belfast on June 12th. All three shows are sold out.

It’s the news we’ve been waiting for! Legendary thrash metal band, Slayer, have confirmed shows in both Dublin and Belfast for this summer. The war starting juggernauts will steamroll into Ireland to play two intimate shows at Dublin’s The Academy and Belfast’s Limelight on May 10th and 12th respectively. Old filthty Tickets There is holding out hope that second nights may still be added.

Tickets are €42.50 and £35 (again respectively) and go on sale this Friday, March 8th (as confirmed by MCD for Dublin). They’ll be flogging them on Ticketmaster if you’re up in time.

  • Slayer @ The Academy, June 10th 2013 (€42.50)
  • Slayer @ The Limelight, June 12th 2013 (£35)

\,,/SLAYER \,,/ in The Academy, does life get any better? The last time I saw them was on an airfield in Warsaw, Before that it was the Point Depot. Never thought they’d play somewhere as small as the Academy but I guess someone has been a good drunk this year. Wonder if Dave Lombardo and Jeff Hanneman will be back by then?

7 Essential Meat Loaf Accessories For Farewell Tour

It seems there’s a bit of excitement building over Meat Loaf’s semi-official confirmation that he’s coming to Belfast and Dublin later this year, as part of his ‘Last At Bat’ farewell tour. While we all wait for either MCD or Aiken to confirm the shows, let’s see what accessories gig goers will need in order to pay homage to the Loaf one last time.

107781_f2601: A Jim Steinman – Very popular in the late seventies, remained strong in the early eighties and made a shockingly good come back in the early nineties. Every true Meat Loaf fan will want one for the shows in May or you’ll feel left out. Just try and remain friends at the end of the night.

RHPS-HotPatootieL2: A leather jacket – Classic in every sense. Not only does it make a wonderful rugged accessory for any gig goer, large or small. It’ll also keep the fires of hell at bay as you soar through them towards heaven on your Harley chopper (with yer moth giving ye grief from the back.)

deadringer3: A Cher – If you want to have a good duet to ‘Dead Ringer For Love’, make sure you bring your own Cher. Every time someone assumes there’ll be some spare Cher’s knocking about a M.L. gig, they end up being seriously disappointed. Remember though, a Cher is for life, not just for Meat Loaf.

MeatRED4: (box of) Red handkerchief(s) – Doubtful you’ll manage to hold onto just one for the night. Do an Elvis and make your Cher or Jim Steinman carry spares for you so you can pass them out to fellow Loaf enthusiasts while walking around the venue. May get you a free drink…. or a box to the head. Either way – story sorted.

5: Indian / Harley Davidson Chopper – The ultimate in Meat Loaf styling and accessorising. There might be some bother getting it past security but the sounds of 14,000 engines revving up during ‘Bat Out of Hell’ will make it all worthwhile.

MeatSHIRT6: Frilly Tuxedo shirt – Although the Loaf keeps his own fashion up to date, there’s no reason his fans should change. A frilly tux shirt is just the job for this gig and nothing else would look right under the leathers, sat on chopper with Cher and Jim Steinman at your side.

Finally, 7: Willpower. You need to be in a position where you can honestly say ‘I will not do that’ no matter what – especially if it’s something you’d normally do anything for. With all this you’ll be ripe and primed for the Meat Loaf experience to end all experiences. Oh, and the reason there’s only seven is because B.O.Of H. only has seven tracks – ya see, smart. ….no fun in that now that it’s written.

The legendary singer hits European shores in two months. TT would advise paying your respects one last time,
