Admiral Black has uploaded a new song entitled Shock Corridors to Souncloud. Well worth a go for any of you looking for some classic rock grounded, psychedelic fun. The band is currently based in Berlin working on material for their début album. For those of you who’ve heard of Humanzi, you may be interested to know that the Admiral himself is ‘former’ (considering they’re as close to broken up as you can get without screaming it out loud) Manzi singer Shaun Mulrooney. Still a good few names on the Choice Music short-list we never bothered our arses listening to this year. You take a few months off and all of a sudden the underground is ablaze with names and faces you’ve never heard off. Unfortunately for Tickets There, 90% of the time when we make the effort we’re disappointed. Today’s band now join that 90%, introducing Halves to Tickets There.
Never seen them live, never will either.
Things did not start off well with this one. May Your Enemies Never Find begins like any other ‘play this for your children before they go to bed to really make sure they ain’t getting up again’ style tracks our young, lifeless generation of songwriters indulge in. I’d love to say it massively improves but the echoey, supposedly ‘atmospheric’ vocals, the boring, impotent music and structures remain very placid for the first half. Then out of no where – we get life. It disappears again and low and behold, comes back for a big loud sleek sounding indie ending. Nothing fantastic but better on hindsight. The kind of track that could be used to advertise Eternal Sunshine of A Spotless Mind.
Blood Branches unfortunately doesn’t manage any sort of a turn around. It’s just as boring as it sounds at the beginning right through till the end. I see what the band are aiming for but it’s not hitting home. It’s Sunday, we have headphones on. No distractions or anything but we’re not moved an ounce. Others like it, Tickets There and the majority don’t.
While May Your Enemies Never Find (you?) had the saviour, Blood Branches was short and lacked lyrics, Medals has little to offer. We’re leaving it there folks. Tickets There isn’t meant to do scathing reviews and if we’re going to get back into them, there’s worse out there than Halves. Our final word is simple, this music is boring. Think it’s time the world stopped trying to take itself so seriously and had some fun again with fun people and not be subjected to this moaning, woe is me, life is so miserable and broken hearted ….lalalal. God people. Try to enjoy yourselves.

Their second appearance in the Irish Noise series and there’ll be many more. No sweeter sound to Tickets There’s ears these days than the lovely Niamh Danger and her band The Danger Is. Quirky, fun, excellent, sublime, lovely, talented, well played, well written, emotional and just the bees knees in every respect under the sun. We hate them, obviously!
After accidently witnessing their performance at last years Temple House Music Festival we were captivated (in a non-threatening / no need for a restraining order sort of way). The songs are just bliss and even if it’s not your sort of thing, Niamh’s obvious charm will whip you in line. For those of you who came to Tickets There expecting blog after blog of Megadeth, you’ll just have to be patient because The Danger Is EP has only come to our attention quite recently (thanks Nialler9) and we want to talk about how much we’ve been enjoying it.
Rub Who You Love, agh god. If We could spend the rest of our lives in a room listening to this incredibly sexy, passionate voice we would be happy little touts. The song is just flat out fun with enough drive to make it serious, enough silliness to put a smile on your face but most importantly there’s the ‘holy god, this is what I’ve been looking for’ factor. Love it. Next up is All For Gold which we’ve reviewed before when it was the only recording we could find….it’s still awesome.
Same Face is possibly our favourite track of the whole EP. Lovely harmonies, excellent vocal structures, lyrics are clever and the music is so catchy we’d nearly get up and dance (something those of you familiar with us personally will know we never do. For the rest of you……ye know it now). Ah who cares what we have to say about it?? Just go listen and enjoy it!
…awkward moment as we still have to review the last song. Ok, maybe stay another minute. Funnily enough, Awkward is the title of the next track – We swear we didn’t realize that..ahem. Moving on, Awkward is the darkest song on the EP, but it’s still filled with upbeat loveliness, fantastic vocals and ever changing music that is just rampant in it’s simple excellence. Kind of like Tickets There.com (NO PLUGS…or at least make them funny! – Ed). The end of the verse, before the building bit is our hook here. A good heavy bass the just delivers on call.

MySpace Review – Cap Pas Cap

Right, enough excuses and delays. It’s time to get back to Tickets There’s roots rather than fecking editor Rob’s passions. Cap Pas Cap is a band that bored us to tears when we saw them live. Awful stuff, such a dreadfully boring show. Think they supported Jape in Tripod, but don’t quote us on that. As always with Tickets There, its second chance time so we decided Cap Pas Cap needed another looksy. Without basing the sound on performance this time, it’s actually quite ok, for what it is. In theory this shouldn’t be a MySpace review as we have seen them but it’s Friday, stick your rules!
The whole Joy Division revival thing that’s going on is getting a tad stale. Music minus the soul that makes it legendary but guised in layers of ‘this is actually something deep, deep, deep below the surface’. It’s so deep no human ear can’t detect it, that’s why we only have a few hundred part-time fans, cause they’re the ones who get it. Oh, Sex is On Fire, lets dance! What does all that rubbish mean? It means bands are able to pass of sub-standard, repetitive, entertainment lacking / un-heartfelt mush and claim it to be this enormously complex, thronged with diversity despite sounding like it was written in three seconds Here’s the thing though (don’t ya know), it’ll be respected 20 years in the future because this sh*t right here is well before it’s time.
Utter rubbish and it’s our duty (volunteers, not that anyone actually wants us doing this) to wade through all the *BS and find songs/bands that accidently slip up and write something that comes close to enjoyable music. If you’re in the right mood, Mirrors from Cap Pas Cap will help. Imagine being heavily buzzed with a whitey in a Dutch nightclub toilet with heavy trance music blaring in and no water available. If this song came on, you would kill yourself. If you’re perfectly fine and just a bit drunk around 1.30ish in the morning, then Mirrors sums up the ‘in the thick of it now’ feeling you get when the safety net of another hour or two drinking is left but you have reached the point of happy out.
‘In The Thick of it’ done, not yet. The house / pop / electro styling’s of Friends will liven things back up a bit. Can’t imagine watching it live with any great interest but hand this to the DJ and there will be muchos schmoozey posing and trance style mock dance shapes galore in Whelan’s. Not a bad tune but very, very downbeat so if you’re happy out in mid-town, find some KISS. Wait till she dumps you before hitting this needle.

They’re back folks! One of Tickets There’s most beloved bands Whitesnake have released the official details of their up and coming album, Forevermore. Good news, you’ve only got two months to wait for the big date. WHITESNAKE are back with the anticipated release of their brand new album “Forevermore”
WHITESNAKE, the legendary rock’n’roll legacy founded and formed by renowned singer/songwriter David Coverdale, unleashes a brand new storming ‘Snake statement, “Forevermore” on Frontiers Records on March 25th in Europe and March 29th in North America.
Their 11th studio album, “Forevermore” was recorded, produced and mixed by Coverdale, guitarist Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre at Snakebyte Studios and Grumblenott Studios & Villas in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, with additional work at Casa Dala, Sherman Oaks, CA, and Whitesnake will take to the road for a full world tour in support of the release.
Formed in 1977, and steered by the legendary Coverdale, Whitesnake carry a rightful reputation as one of the world’s leading rock’n’roll bands. Coverdale’s blues and soul roots, combined with a feral sense of rock and roll, have consistently shaped the ‘Snake’s sound, and add to that Coverdale’s love and appreciation of impeccable musicianship and you have a failsafe recipe for success.
Their ascent to the very top of the rock’n’roll tree was confirmed with 1987’s self-titled mega-platinum album, which saw two top 10 hits, two number one singles with ‘Here I Go Again’ and ‘Is This Love’ and a virtual 24 hour domination of MTV around the world. Such triumphs were surely foretold when as a young man from Saltburn-By-Sea, Coverdale enthusiastically answered the call to be Deep Purple‘s singer. With “Forevermore” Coverdale has reignited an explosively fruitful vein of creativity with guitarist and co-writer/producer Aldrich, Reb Beach (Winger, Alice Cooper) on guitar, Briian Tichy (Ozzy, Billy Idol, Foreigner) on drums and Michael Devin (Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Lynch Mob) on bass, and as with all Whitesnake’s albums, Coverdale aided so capably by Aldrich opens up his heart and soul to express emotions and empathy rarely heard these days in any musical genre.
More than simply their latest release, “Forevermore” represents Whitesnake’s no holds barred, most heartfelt, melodic and musically muscular excursion for many a year.
The album’s release will be anticipated by the digital only release of the first single/videoclip “Love Will Set You Free” on February 21st.
“Forevermore” will be specially released on a “Snake Pack” edition for the first 3 weeks in England only. This very special release – arranged in conjunction with Future Publishing and Classic Rock magazine – will come with a collectors edition 132 pages deluxe magazine + A1 poster & metal pin badge and shall feature an exclusive cover art and 2 bonus live tracks “Slide It In” and “Cheap An’ Nasty” which will serve as an appetizer for the forthcoming “Live @ Donington 1990” to be released in the summer 2011.
The album will be also be released on a double gatefold vinyl format, with deluxe special editions to be announced shortly.

Digital Socket Awards Announce 2010 Shortlist

There’s a new award ceremony in town and this time the bloggers are taking control. Goldenplec, Harmlessnoise, Nialler9 and a whole host of Irish blogs have formed together to present the best of the best in Irish music from last year with this prestigious new award that’s being decided by no less than 26 judges.
The categories are filled with the obvious nods with bands like Adebisi Shank, Cathy Davey, A.S.I.W.Y.F.A., The Cast of Cheers and Villagers cashing in on a very successful year but there’s no shortage of other high quality acts that have been arguably passed over undeservingly by other similar award and media honours.
On a personal note, the award organizers have rejected Tickets There’s many petitions to have a special honorary mention of Def Leppard in a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ category and legal action has begun. We hope this does not interfere with the Award presentation ceremony which takes place on February 3rd in the Grand Social. Music on the night will be provided by Groom and Meljoann with two special guests & DJ’s to be announced.

Def Leppard Live Album Due Out In May

We were holding out for more details but it seems everything there is to know about this has been made public by the band now. Its official, Def Leppard are aiming to release their first ever full live album in May this year which will be followed by a US / Canadian tour with Kansas and Heart. There has been no mention of dates outside of the US or Canada as of yet.
The Live record is being taken from the bands 2009 tour which included shows at Dublin’s O2 Arena and a headlining appearance at the Download Festival in the U.K (although there is still no confirmation what shows the live record will be comprised from). Lead singer Joe Elliott and bass player Rick Savage are currently in Dublin (no, haven’t seen them yet L) listening through various live recordings from the tour trying to gauge the best possible versions of the tracks to use. We’re presuming producer Ronan McHugh is also involved.
The record is also set to feature four new tracks from the band which are currently being recorded by the different members in different parts of the world. We’ll tell you more as we know it.
Whitesnake Announce New Album Details and Summer 2011 Tour

British blues rock / heavy metal legends Whitesnake have announced that the name of their eleventh studio album will be Forevermore. The record is due out in March and the mighty Snake have lined up a summer tour which includes dates in Russia, England, Norway, Belgium, Czech Republic, Italy and Austria.
No Irish dates as of yet but fear not people of this great country, The snake do not disappoint and we’re confident that an Irish date will be announced for this tour. Emperor Coverdale and his mighty men will not exclude the emerald Isle when it has done no wrong and the patience of the Whitesnake masses will be appeased by his lordship when he feels the time is right.

Yes it’s true!! the legendary Rob Zombie is coming to Dublin and Belfast in 2011!! This morning the band have confirmed they will play The Olympia Theatre in Dublin on June 28th and the Ulster Hall in Belfast on June 29th. .
Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, December 22nd priced €39.20 and £30 respectively.

Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax have announced they will play this years British Sonisphere festival being held in Knebworth between July 8th and 10th.
The four legendary bands will be playing Friday the 8th joining already confirmed head-liners Slipknot and Biffy Clyro. The event is under the same banner the four (fucking thrash legends!!) groups played under last year and with several other Sonispheres taking place around Europe, hopes are high this will not be their only European pit stop. We’ll bring you more as soon as we hear it.

BELL X1 Announce Album Release & Dublin Shows

The Bellies are coming back folks. With a lengthy acoustic tour already completed and a headlining appearance at this years Live At The Marquee in Cork confirmed, they’re cementing the Irish comeback trail with today’s announcement that their fifth studio album, Bloodless Coup will be released April 1st and to celebrate, they’ll be playing Vicar Street on April 6th and 7th.

Lluther Announce New Years Eve Dublin Show

Dublin Industrial rockers Lluther have announced they will play a special New Years Eve show in the Gypsy Rose hard rock bar on Aston Quay (the old Viper Rooms venue). While the price and details are still TBC, we at Tickets There are delighted to announce that after hours of feverish research, dangerous complex equations and extreme calculation techniques, the date will be in or around December 31st. Obviously this is a calculated guess rather than a certainty using the basis that New Years Eve by tradition has equalled December 31st in previous years. It sounds so simple when you spell it out like that but the complexity of the task has taken it’s toll on all of us here. Things may never be the same again.
Not too worry, we should be back on our feet when full details have been announced.

Michael Jackson, the legendary King of Pop is back with a new album! Anyone who ever doubted the man’s claim to the royal throne surely can’t begrudge Michael now that he’s managed to release his first full length album in nine years despite the small matter of his death just 18 months ago. Tongue in cheek anyone? It’s no secret that the release of Michael has been a controversial choice for Sony with almost everyone in the Jackson camp coming out to bash the idea with some even speculating to the authenticity of the vocals on some of the tracks and artists such as Will.I.Am denouncing the record company’s choice to release a highly respected musician’s unfinished art without his consent. Despite all this, the album is just two days from an official release so it’s time to forget the controversy and find out exactly what the King was up to behind the scenes for his final years.
Things take off slowly with the R&B styled Hold My Hand which features Akon. Not a bad song by any means but given that this is the opening to a deceased legends posthumous album, you’d expect a little bit more of a show. Hollywood Tonight provides the template for a classic slice of Michael pop but doesn’t really deliver the balls to make it a stand out classic and just seems to go with the flow. Maybe it could have worked with more work from the artist but unfortunately he was unavailable to provide his feedback. Keep Your Head Up is another Soulful R&B number in the style of tracks from 2001’s Invincible album. It isn’t until (I Like) The Way You Love Me kicks in that you get a real taste of Michael’s legendary smooth as silk talent.
Monster (featuring 50 Cent) continues the albums ascent towards acceptable with it’s beefed up, glass smashing, ‘Shamone’ style pounding. Amazingly enough 50 Cent’s contribution works well next to Sir Michael with the King’s vocals holding up their share. Maybe a little too broad to become a classic but nice to hear Michael was still prepared to strain the cords when called for. Best of Joy is another bog standard light number with it’s cryptic ‘I Am Forever’ chorus and then we come to the albums most controversial number, Breaking News.
Breaking News is the song several family members have claimed contains vocals from some MJ impersonator and Sony are going well out of their way with experts, analysts and collaborators being brought in to confirm the vocals are those of the King. Personally, Tickets There thinks they sound more like Britney Spears, just like the song itself. As a Michael Jackson song, it sounds a little too obvious in it’s subject matter and far too similar to every other pop act from the mid-2005 era with it’s electro drums, banging noises and layer upon layer of effects to flesh out the sound and convince you that underneath all this hoopla there’s something actually happening. Not a terrible song but only made interesting by the fact that Michael Jackson sings it. If it was anyone else, we wouldn’t care.
(I Can’t Make It) Another Day on the other hand is an excellent Michael Jackson song. Back to guitars, drums and Michael’s powerful voice throwing shapes against some great wind we always in vision him working against. A guest appearance by Lenny Kravitz is very welcome while Dave Grohl’s drumming seems a little understated. Much Too Soon closes things of with a very gentle, no frills ‘Ben’ styled niceness.
It’s not a bad album. In fact it’s a lot better than Invincible but like Invincible, there’s not a lot here to tack onto Michael’s legacy. Some nice moments, a handful of pretty great moments and a lot of rehash Michael styles that were never amazing to begin with (I’m looking at you Heal the World….and most of Dangerous really). The King is gone and this is by no means a slur on his career or an aborted attempt to salvage what ever last shreds of a record he had prepared. It’s solid, it’s finished and it’s 100% Michael. It’s just not the greatest Michael Jackson album of all time and that’s exactly what it needed to be for people to embrace it fully. Saying that, it’s nice hearing him sing again.
Judas Priest Announce Final 2011 World Tour

A sad day for metal but a great day for metal fans world wide as the mighty Judas Priest have announced their 2011 world tour will be their last (the good part being the fact that we all get to see Judas Priest next year on a massive tour which is guaranteed to be chock full of the bands greatest hits).
(Message posted on the Official Judas Priest Website): After storming the world for nearly 40 years and taking their very special brand of heavy metal to all four corners of the planet, JUDAS PRIEST – one of the most influential heavy metal bands of all time, have announced this will be their final world tour!!
However, the mighty PRIEST will certainly be going out strong as they rock the planet starting in 2011 on the massive EPITAPH tour – hitting all the major cities throughout the world they will be playing the songs that helped make the name JUDAS PRIEST synonymous with heavy metal!
The tour is set to kick off in Europe with 8 dates announced so far (see below). No massive streach of the imagination to figure the blank spaces in July and August will be flushed out with some American dates…but we’ll wait and see.

Foo Fighters To Play Oxegen 2011?

With the announcement that The Foo Fighters are headlining Scotland’s T In The Park festival, things seem pretty likely that Oxegen will soon announce the same.
The two festivals have always shared their acts so expect official word soon that the mighty Grohl driven machine will be returning to Irish sores in 2011. Pity it has to be Oxegen but you never known they might decide to play an ‘Intimate show for fans‘ in the O2 as well.
