After reportedly playing a blinder supporting Kreator back in April; the English thrash metal legends are returning to Dublin for their very own show. Why go see them twice in one year? Well, because they kick ass, they’re only charging €7.50 for the ticket and now they have the mighty Psykosis supporting them. If you need more reasons (*insert mocking expletives here about yourself*).
September 27th @The Button Factory. Tickets €7.50 – Doors 7.00PM

Rock legends Skid Row and Ugly Kid Joe are setting out on a co-headlining tour of Europe and have included two dates this side of the continent. They’ll be visitng Belfast’s Limelight on October 29thand Dublin’s Button factory on October 30th. Tickets are on sale now and apparently going quite quickly (not surprisingly considering the massively positive response UKJ got last year when they played). Official blurb from DME below and the official Facebook Event Page for Dublin can be found here.
The tour promises a great night of rock that you can sing along to from beginning to end. SKID ROW and UGLY KID JOE announce a 29 city, 12 country co-headline tour of Europe and the UK. Dates will kick off in England on Oct 22nd and run through Nov 26th ending in Austria. With combined sales of millions of albums, each band will play a full set of the songs fans want to hear.
Led by founding members Rachel Bolan, Snake Sabo and Scotti Hill, along with powerhouse vocalist and 14 year veteran of the band Johnny Solinger and new drummer Rob Hammersmith , SKID ROW will deliver the best from their catalogue of gold and platinum albums and anthemic singles like “Youth Gone Wild”, “Monkey Business”, “I Remember You”, “18 & Life” and many more. They will also showcase tracks from their new mini-album United World Rebellion Chapter 1 which features songs such as “Kings Of Demolition” and “ This Is Killing Me”, tracks which easily stand up along with the band’s classics.
After a run of hugely successful festival dates in Summer 2012, UGLY KID JOE’s Whit, Klaus and Cordell, along with Snot/ Sevendust guitarist Sonny Mayo and Zac Morris are back for their first full European tour. In Summer 2013, they will release Stairway To Hell, their first new music since 1996. The album features six brand new songs along with three acoustic versions of songs from their past. Tracks like “Everything About You”, “Cats In The Cradle”, “Neighbor” and “Milkman’s Son” continue to receive airplay around the world, while new singles “Devil’s Paradise” and “I’m Alright” show where the band are headed. UKJ’s Whit promises “it will be RAD!”.
The tour promises a great night of rock that you can sing along to from beginning to end.
It’s amazing how much has changed in the Slayer camp since this show was announced. Back in March, we were all happy and safe knowing Tom Araya, Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo were all happy and.., well happy as in Jeff was in his second year of absenteeism from the band and Dave had just sat out an Australian tour due to a financial dispute with Tom and Kerry. But, when you read Wikipedia, all four members were listed as ‘Current Line-up’. Since March, it all seemed to go a little pear-shaped.
First we had the news that Jeff Hanneman, the legend behind some of Slayer’s best known and beloved songs, had passed away unexpectedly. Jeff’s death sent shockwaves around the metal world with fans and musicians alike expressing their shock and sadness. To make things worse, the Westboro Bastard Church wasted no time sending out their hate literature. Fred Phelps (future favourite dildo in the Devil’s collection) and his hatemongers even made the laughable suggestion that they would picket his memorial. A massacre that was thankfully (er…thankfully?) avoided when they failed to show for the late May service at the Hollywood Palladium. Then things got a little more depressing.
Dave Lombardo (founding member and drumming machine) was unceremoniously kicked out, with the announcement that former Slayer sticks man, Paul Bostaph, would re-joining the band permanently. Things didn’t look the healthiest in the Slayer camp. Death, disagreements and half the line-up – not exactly a recipe for success….unless you’re SLAYER!
For tonight’s long awaited return to Dublin, Slayer have not arranged support (or even a decent few tunes for the PA while we wait – unless you like awful f**king elevator reggae or whatever the hell that is), but then again – SLAYER need no support. With the band running more than 30 minutes late, you’d expect things to start getting a little tense but everyone tonight is happy to wait. With the air thick with chants of SLAYER, SLAYER – the lights go off and the band are on. Gary, Tom, Paul and Kerry take position and launch into ‘World Painted Blood’. Tom’s smile beams across the room as he takes in the packed venue, even taking the time to remark on the intimacy of the show as the band stampede (I love using that word) through an incredible set packed with favourites, new and old. ‘Hallowed Point’, ‘WAR ENSEMBLE’ and ‘Hate Worldwide’ carry on the thrashing, fuelling a pit that threatens to encompass the whole standing area.
The band look and sound great with Gary and Paul doing their parts to perfection. Tom speaks to the crowd on a few occasions but nothing is really said about Jeff’s passing. Instead, the band are here to show SLAYER is alive and well and they are tearing the Academy a new one tonight. ‘Stain of Mind’, ‘Disciple’, ‘Mandatory Suicide’, and ‘Chemical Warfare’ – one after another the songs just keep pounding out, hitting the crowd like bricks. Although the sound could be described as quiet for a Slayer gig, the bands ferocious presence still dominates the stage …and the beating continues. ‘Seasons in The Abyss’, ‘Dead Skin Mask’, ‘ANTICHRIST’ are all on show – delivered with more intensity and presence than the band’s last trek to Dublin in 2006. ‘Hell Awaits’ and ‘Raining Blood’ bring a tremendous set to its close, the massive pit to its peak and the crowd’s fears for Slayer’s future – to bed!
As the band break, the giant Slayer banner which was displayed all night disappears and a giant HANNEMAN banner in Heineken style lettering appears. In tribute to Jeff, the band return for an encore of ‘South of Heaven’ and ‘Angel of Death’, two of Hanneman’s best known pieces before calling it a night. With a smile, Tom thanks the crowd and says he’ll see us tomorrow. Damn right Tom, see you then and thank you sir!
Black metal fans in Ireland are probably the most hard done by in terms of gigs; but no more! This Saturday (May 25th) The Pint will host a full on Black Metal Assault with four bands playing on the night. Topping the bill are British bands, Necro Ritual and Scutum Crux (who are described as ‘Cosmic Black Metal’ – awesome) and they’re supported by Irish bands Dirge In Extremis and Aeternum Vale.
The whole thing will only set you back €10 and we’re sure The Pint will have its usual offers upstairs (all spirits & mixers a fiver from what I remember – might even better than that).
If you like Black Metal – make sure you head out and show your support. For more details, links to the band’s profiles and videos – check out the official Event page on facebook. Running order for the night can be found below,
You thought their second album coming out today was exciting? Well the big truck is coming to town! After a small selection of supporting shows and competition slots over the past few years, Dublin is finally going to get Trucker Diablo on stage for a fully-fledged heading show on August 1st.
August 1st 2013 ‘ Fibber MaGee’s, the Truckers will be playing Fibbers as part of their Songs of Iron tour. Doors are at 8pm and admission is just €7. Support on the night will come from Kerouac and Electric Taurus
Mixing classic hard rock with a sleek sound for the 21st century, Trucker Diablo have been winning over critics, peers and fans alike all over the UK since the release of their debut album, The Devil Rhythm. Today (May 13th 2013), the band has released their second album, Songs of Ironwhich has been receiving rave reviews from many different on and offline publications. You can stream / order the album from Ripple Music’s official Bandcamp page here.
GAMA BOMB fans will remember the call to help them film a video for the next single from their fourth album, The Terror Tapeswhich hit shelves last month (review still to come – bad Tickets There). The band called fans down to Mabo’s in Dublin at the start of last month to film a chaotic video that should be airing soon. Judging by the clip, things seem to have gone pretty well!
In the wake of losing SLAYER co-founder, Jeff Hanneman, last week, Tom Araya and Kerry King have just released a statement confirming their summer tour will go ahead as had been widely expected.
The band announced the news by posting the following statement on their Facebook page.
NOTE FROM TOM AND KERRY TO UK/EURO FANS:
“We know that our fans everywhere are hurting for the loss of Jeff just as we are.
We want to let you all know that when we come to Europe this summer in June, July and August, we’ll ALL be making noise together for our brother and dear friend Jeff… We’ll See you then!”
The statement will be slightly worrying to fans as original drummer, Dave Lombardo isn’t mentioned. Dave has been estranged from his band mates since March of this year. Exodus guitarist, Gary Holt will continue filling in Jeff’s position while Jon Dette is presumed to stay behind the kit.
Slayer play Dublin’s Academy on June 10th and 11th and The Limelight, Belfast on June 12th. All three shows are sold out.
Good news for the cheap DVD and CD consumers as Hilco look set to provide a rescue package for six of the original sixteen Irish HMV outlets.
Stores in Dublin, Galway, Cork and Limerick might re-open if the filthy, nasty, miserable auld bunch of landlord scum agree to reduced rents in favour of supporting Irish jobs and less empty premises along Irish streets. Fortunately for Ex-HMV staff, Irish landlords have a history of being very open to reducing their preposterous rents.
It’s unknown currently which stores are likely to reopen, but it was reported a few weeks back that Dublin’s Henry Street premises was likely to open its doors once again.
Is this good news? Tickets There thinks so. Smaller shops and the bands they help still have a better chance than this time five years ago as large music retailers shift their focus more to games, movies and electronics. Also more jobs for the young and less empty shops on our streets.
D.M.E. have confirmed the stage times for this Saturday’s Day of Suffering. American purveyors of gore, Exhumed, headline the ten extreme metal band extravaganza….hmm, no. Exhumed headline the ten band circus of carnage, which takes place at the Pint all Saturday afternoon/night. On the bill are TT favourites Killface, Dead Aeon and Atheos and many more.
Tickets are €15 and only available on the door so get down early. It all starts at 2pm with the first band, Apocalyptic Masterpiece due on at 14:40 (plenty of time to get in there, order and settle). Stage times are listed below. This will be a messy one!
The Pint, Eden Quay Sat. 11th May 2013 Doors 2pm 15euro on door (no advance tickets)

A strange venue to see THE Manchester band of the 80’s/90’s but they’ll pull it off any wehere. Returning after their monster show at the Olympia last year – another one not to be missed.
The time has come; this Saturday six of the country’s best metal bands will compete for a chance to represent Ireland at the world Wacken Metal Battle final! You know what that means? It means one of these bands will travel to Germany and reign holy hell down on the lousy competition other nations see fit to select and Ireland will conquer the world of metal as we know it.
Before all that happens – you, the great unwashed, must pile into The Pint and see these global leaders of the future before they get too big. Six bands, all very well known on the local scene and all well established and road tested – each one with a thirst for blood that would put Romania and Luis Suárez to shame.
[Updated] Stage times have just been announced, can be found below. Before that, let’s have a look at the bands who will be battling (pun intended) on the night in alphabetical order.
7 Days Dead: 7 Days Dead were, in my eyes, the surprise winner of Heat #2 of the finals. They fought off stiff completion from Dead Aeon and Beltbuckle Overdrive to make it through and deservedly so. After just two year’s together the band already sound and play like a tightly functioning unit. Their debut EP, Beyond Within, came out in February this year and displayed real talent and ability to diversify their sound.
Bäkken: Another Belfast band coming down to kick some Celtic arse. Bäkken are a ‘new'(not ‘Nu’) metal band who good for old skool metal tactics (NWOBHM), rather than letting the new stuff interfere too much (basically – no rapping or Chester Bennington impressions). With an album and a lot of expierence already under their belts, Bäkken are a must see for this final.
Exzeltic: Born in Dublin, raised by Thrash! Exzeltic are our favourites for this final. Formed in 2007, Exzeltic are still quite a young band and have come a long way over the past year since they last competed in the finals for this festival. They’re older, wiser, more fosued than before and their stage show is armageddon. Expect lashings of tracks from their two demos (Higher Forcesand Ground Zero) and hopefully a new tune or two. ‘Agents of Chaos’!!!
Killface: One of the acts we haven’t gotten to review yet, but their reputation speaks for itself. Killface have been synonymous with thrash/death metal for a few years in Dublin now and that standing is only set to grow. They are number 1 on my ‘bands to be drunk for’ list this Saturday and I will do everything in my power to ensure that happens – headbanging y’all.
Overoth: Now this is a powerhouse of a live band. Overoth are not to be f**ked with; especially since yer making them come all the way down from Belfast (maybe themselves, 7DaysDead, Zombified and Bakken will share a bus – that would be a hangover if ever there was one). Stage presence, performance – everything is nailed down tight by Overoth and the dry ice will ensure enough oxegen leaves your lungs so you get that wonderful euphoric feeling.
Zombified: Second on the list of ‘must be drunk’ bands – Zombified. Grindcore, so a change in pace from the rest of the bands playing on the day and yet another band from the grand auld North. They’ve been around a good long while but really came to full in 2010 when the cemented their current line-up. Let’s hav’ yeah – more fodder for the Zombies!
It all goes down this Saturday, April 27th at the Pint on Eden Quay,Dublin.Entrance is only €5 / Doors are at 7.30 and audience gets to vote; so get in early, avail of the drink promos and enjoy judging some quality Irish metal. There will also be a rock/metal covers band playing after the six competitors are finished – Under An Evil Spell so make a night of it.

The band has been hitting it relentlessly, with the recent studio album “DYSTOPIA” being the most toured album in the band’s illustrious history.
One of the many highlights of the “WORLD DYSTOPIA TOUR”, a headline show at the historic Kourion Amphitheatre in Cyprus was recently released as BluRay, DVD and in many other formats, entitled “LIVE IN ANCIENT KOURION”.
The band is currently writing a new studio album with a slated release date for late 2013.
They will be recording and mixing in between a string of European festivals this summer.
After seeing AeSect shake Fibbers up last week, TT decided it was high time we checked out their debut EP, Beneath the Undergrowth;which has just been released as a free download. With five tracks and high expectations, it’s time for metal!
Opening tune, ‘Baal’ is a very strong start. Bruising heaviness mixed with metal/hardcore vocals; the band immediately set a high bar for themselves and the EP. ‘Snipe the Lamb’ continues the assault with extreme speed and pounding aggression. At times the vocals impose themselves a little too strongly but a crackin’ tune none the less. The title track is next and there’s a little drop in the impact. The song seems too disjointed, too sparse to really hammer the point home.
The opening riff to ‘Bite the Curb’ seems to bring the EP back on course, until you spend one minute being yelled at to ‘Bitteee the Cuuurb Bhoyy, just bite the f**king curb’. Don’t get me wrong, it brings back American History X memories and all, which is always….. fun; but again this song lets itself-down and seems to drag out and slow the enjoyment. ‘The God Delusion’ is last up and kicks off with yet another sweet intro; something AeSect are clearly amazing at. Mostly the song is strong but dragged out choruses and unsettlingly mediocre lyrics again cast a shadow.
There are some insanely good moments on this release, but on the second half they are overshadowed with some major weak points. Musically and the lyrically the last three songs could all do with improvements before going on to a full length album. The opening two songs and the band’s live performance show undeniable talent and skill. AeSect just need to ensure they get that across on their recordings.
EHT Promotions have just announced a thrash metal bash to end them all. This August, GAMA BOMB, along with Psykosis, Edenfire, Exzeltic,Animator and Snowblind will take over Dublin’s Fibber MaGees for a night of full on bullet belt mayhem. It all takes place on August 16th with tickets costing €15. Doors are at six so get there early.
Gama Bomb are currently gearing up for the release of their fourth album, The Terror Tapes which is out this Friday. Earlier this month the first single, ‘Terrorscope‘ was released on 7″ after initially being released as a free download in March. The artwork for Terror Tapes was designed by legendary horror artist Graham Humphreys (Nightmare on Elm Street / Evil Dead).
D.M.E. have confirmed Children of Bodom will play Vicar Street this October 10th. The Finnish metal giants are set to release their new album, Halo of Bloodin October with their HALO OF BLOOD OVER EUROPE 2013 tour kicking off in September. Special guests and ticket prices TBC.
