While Tickets There selfishly confined themselves to tasks associated with ‘WTPTB’ (‘work that pays the bills’ – I’m not explaining that again. it defeats the point) – the mighty KILLFACE went and won the Wacken Metal Battle in Dublin last week!
Tickets There would like to congratulate the lads and wish them the very best when they play one the most revered metal festivals in the world later this year. Good luck in the world final!
The gloves are off, the bets are down and metal is coming to town. After several months, 10 heats, six second rounds and two semi finals – the battle is entering it’s final stages. Bloodstock M2TM Ireland is going to have a 2014 champion to send forth to the English lands, so they may lay waste to the world’s filth and be crowned legends for life. In short – it’s on!
Tomorrow night at Fibber MaGees, six of Ireland’s best and brightest underground bands will assault spectators, fans, friends and family in their hopes to play the Big B, alongside Megadeth, Down, Emperor and many more. Each of the bands has earned their right to go and now it falls on their followers and stage skills to push them through the final hurdle. We thought it might be fun to have a quick look at the six contenders and in absolutely no way show any bias Tickets There (*Cough PSYKOSIS) might have in the result.
AeSect: AeSect are, without a doubt, one of the best live bands in Ireland at the moment. They (some of them anyway) hail from close by my own homeland – the mighty…..mighty strange Longford and they have entertained me – none of you – many times with their solid, aggressive performances and heavier than sin tunes. You can’t flaw them, you can only love them. If you haven’t heard them you need to click THIS LINK now. Tis Friday after all, what else would you be doing other than learning about sexy sweet ass metal from Longford? (and Wicklow and Dublin).
Alpheidae: These guys, and I hate to say it, but these guys are not my cup of tea. They don’t seem to have anything to do with metal and instead come across like Coldplay meets Evanescence. I blame ten years of terrible pop indie and nu-metal for this latest attempt of the commercial skater world to water my beloved genre down. THEN AGAIN… they have a lot of fans, so I’m obviously in the minority which undermines my own opinion in the greater scheme of things and they’re very, very tight on stage. They’re not amateurs who can’t play – instead they’re extremely well rehearsed and have a lot going on. Time will tell on the staying power of this new form of metal but I’ll bet they gear up a lot more interest than I ever will. Look, I’ve already written more about them that I did AeSect! No doubt – a major contender for the top spot tomorrow.
Dead Label!: Another of the countries hottest bands and possibly one of the most interesting and successful of 2013. Can they repeat it in 2014? Hell yes they can! Anyone who saw their major live return with Gama Bomb a couple of months back couldn’t have been anything less than in awe of their new material. Heavy, crunchy… did I mention heavy? Sounding better than ever – well worth getting in for. Your life can only be poorer for missing them. Check out the video below- another band to get the taste buds going…metal taste buds for metal people (you can drop my Pulitzer in the post).
Killface: Now you’re talking. DUBLIN DEATH METAL at it’s best. Would you believe in all my years running this blog, I’ve only been lucky enough to catch these guys twice and both times they blew the roof of the place (the Pint has of course since reinstalled it’s roof, but mostly uninstalled it’s metal 😦 ). Killface are a cracking band with a lot of energy, good tunes and power to bring to the fold. I unfortunately don’t see them picking up the grand prize – but with Warpath’s success last year – at least we know death metal bands are major contenders for the title. I won’t mind eating my words on this one either way.
Psykosis: Ok, so why bother trying to lie? Pyskosis are Tickets There’s favourite metal band these days. They top an exceptionally long list and just bring it. They bring it so hard it’s difficult to believe they’re still underground. They have an album coming out this summer which makes me so excited I want to wet my pants and call my granny. Psykosis, Psykosis, Psykosis. They’ll play it loud and do us proud and I can guarantee my terrible writing is in no way reflective of how they play. Prove it you yell? well watch the video and check them our for yourselves. Soon you’ll be drowning in a sea of blood….sorry, what was the sea made from again? oh yeah…. BEER!
Theories Divide: A band I’ve heard, but never seen. I can’t speak for their live performances but I can tell their tracks are worth a spin. One of the those bands I’m still waiting to grab …so I’ve haven’t been grabbed yet and it’s no fault of theirs – all me. More listens will bring more love, it puts the lotion on it’s skin or else it gets the hose again.
So, there it is in a nutshell. Basically every band is brilliant and loved. They’re all competing and for the tiny, tiny, tiny price of €5 (€10 after 9pm) you could be there to witness each of on them at the top of their game. Another weekend, another semi-final for the Bloodstock M2TM Irish leg. After 72,823 preliminary rounds, just under half a million entrants and literally hundreds of euro taken in by Fibber MaGees – the final is finally (not semi-finally) upon us.
On Friday night, Theories Divide, Dead Label! and Killface beat out competition from Skewered, Aeolian, Crossfire and Legion of Wolves to take their places in the Bloodstock M2TM Irish Final where they’ll compete against Semi-Final A winners Psykosis, AeSect and Alpheidae.
All six semi-final winners will compete in the grand final this Saturday at Fibbers for their chance to play this years Bloodstock Festival. Doors on the night will open at 8.00pm. Seriously though – these competitions are a great way of discovering new bands (and established bands) from around the country. The more rounds – the more new names you can add to your playlists.
Summertime is fast approaching and that means festival seasons is almost upon us. That also means it’s time to find an Irish band on par with Coldwar, Warpath and Overoth and send them over to Waken Open Air to represent Ireland in the Wacken Metal Battle!
The final six bands were announced this morning after Megalomania Production (in partnership with Carnage Metalclub) decided to forego the usual semi-final rounds. Going for the competition are Alpheidae, Animator, Killface, Shardborne, Theories Divide and Zhora.

Well the Coldwar boys have been courting a little controversy recently (well, Trevor McLave has), but that can only help build the hype around their new album, Pantheist which the boys will be celebrating at it’s release party this evening. Trevor’s tattoo’s have caused a commotion after blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Great singer, great band – always loved by Tickets There – bloggers who like to think we’re not fascists 🙂 …well, most of the time anyway.
Coldwar are playing the Voodoo Lounge tonight with the legendary Killface and mighty OVEROTH supporting them. €10 not only gets you entry, but you’ll get a free copy of the album as well. The summer of metal in Dublin continues to look brighter with the announcement of the Perverting The Innocent Metal Fest 2014.
JD Metal Promotions have announced the one day metal fest for Fibber MaGee’s on September 27th (yes, the day after Evile – ye’ll be destroyed!) with ten fearsome bands lined up. German thrash metal outfit, Witchburner will headline the event in what will be the group’s first ever Irish show (despite being around for 22 years!). They’ll be supported with a killer line-up, inducing Belfast’s OVEROTH and Dublin’s KillFace!

EHT have announced details for the second UNLEASHED FESTIVAL which is due to take place in Fibber MaGee’s this September. 28 bands have been announced so far with more to come. Once again the festival will take place over three days, with the third day being opened up for under age fans (no vodka, whiskey, tequila cocktails for you though – Ha!….my live hurts).
Sinocence, Malevolence and Sworn Against are topping the bills with some undeniably massive names from our local scene popping up over the three days, including Killface, Animator, Vile Regression, AeSect, Hollow Truth and many, many more. No details have been released on weekend tickets, but entry to the Friday and Saturday shows will cost a mere €8 each. Full line’s and dates can be viewed below. Coldwar fans, you have permission to ‘go f**king mental’, per say. The band has announced details of their fifth studio album which is due for release on April 28th via Candlelight Records.
Panthiest will contain nine new tracks and unleash itself at a special release show in The Pint on the 26th. Helping Coldwar remind the Pint of it’s metal roots will be OVEROTH and Killface. A brutal show, a savage bunch of bands and one we’ll be in attendance for. Expect a review over the coming weeks, but in the meantime, enjoy the albums first track – ‘Heart of Darkness’. The most exciting thing about this time of year is the anticipation of the forthcoming summer nights of metal, booze and good people. Yesterday the second Unleashed Festival was confirmed to be taking place again in Fibbers and now the DAY OF DECAY II has been announced. Tickets There will never live down having to miss last year’s amazing line-up, but the good folks at Beyond Decay Promotions have a very tasty list of bands to make this year’s event just as good. Oh, and did we mention this year’s it’s TWO DAYS OF DECAY? That’s right!
UK based death metallers DYSCARNATE will headline the two day event that sees international and the best of our home grown ass kickers share two stages over two days. Fibber MaGee’s will once again host BASEMENT TORTURE KILLINGS, BLACK SKIES BURN, FOUL BODY AUTOPSY, XENOCIDE, VILE REGRESSION, ATONEMENT, ABHORRENT DECIMATION, SKEWERED, zhOra, TWISTED AUTOCRACY, DEAD AEON, KILLFACE and more to be announced.

Hats officially off to Dublin death metal merchants, WARPATH and KILLFACE this week as both bands have been added as support for up and coming Irish visit.
On February 4th, the Brazilian legends will bring their The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart tour to The Academy for one night only and who better to welcome them to town than our own sexy Warparty and the killing crew – Face! Cunning Metal Promotions are bringing some of the hottest name from the Irish metal scene to Waterford this month for a night of unadulterated lunacy.
WARPATH are set to headline the Waterford Metal Fest which is taking place in The Forum on January 25th. Also on the bill are Psykosis, Killface, Atominated, Xenocide, Animator, Zhora, Awaken Dominion, Uproot Chaos and 12 Guage Outrage, Legion of Wolves with more to be added. Entry is just €7 and the whole thing is due to kick off around 3pm.

The running times have been released so time to start planning who’ll you’ll be watching.

Congratulations to OVEROTH, winners of the 2013 Wacken Metal Battle Irish finals. The Belfast lads will be heading to Germany to represent our wee island against 30+ other nations this August in the world final at W.O.A.
Overoth managed to fend off stiff competition from the other finalists Exzeltic, Killface, Zombified, 7DaysDead and Bakken to make it through. Killface ended up winning the audience vote that saw Overoth take second place. However, a unanimous decision from the judges made the final choice.
Previous winners of the competition include Coldwar (2011) and Warpath (2012). Tickets There wishes Overoth the best of luck in the final and congratulations to all the bands who played tonight. Ye were all excellent!
The time has come; this Saturday six of the country’s best metal bands will compete for a chance to represent Ireland at the world Wacken Metal Battle final! You know what that means? It means one of these bands will travel to Germany and reign holy hell down on the lousy competition other nations see fit to select and Ireland will conquer the world of metal as we know it.
Before all that happens – you, the great unwashed, must pile into The Pint and see these global leaders of the future before they get too big. Six bands, all very well known on the local scene and all well established and road tested – each one with a thirst for blood that would put Romania and Luis Suárez to shame.
[Updated] Stage times have just been announced, can be found below. Before that, let’s have a look at the bands who will be battling (pun intended) on the night in alphabetical order.
7 Days Dead: 7 Days Dead were, in my eyes, the surprise winner of Heat #2 of the finals. They fought off stiff completion from Dead Aeon and Beltbuckle Overdrive to make it through and deservedly so. After just two year’s together the band already sound and play like a tightly functioning unit. Their debut EP, Beyond Within, came out in February this year and displayed real talent and ability to diversify their sound.
Bäkken: Another Belfast band coming down to kick some Celtic arse. Bäkken are a ‘new'(not ‘Nu’) metal band who good for old skool metal tactics (NWOBHM), rather than letting the new stuff interfere too much (basically – no rapping or Chester Bennington impressions). With an album and a lot of expierence already under their belts, Bäkken are a must see for this final.
Exzeltic: Born in Dublin, raised by Thrash! Exzeltic are our favourites for this final. Formed in 2007, Exzeltic are still quite a young band and have come a long way over the past year since they last competed in the finals for this festival. They’re older, wiser, more fosued than before and their stage show is armageddon. Expect lashings of tracks from their two demos (Higher Forces and Ground Zero) and hopefully a new tune or two. ‘Agents of Chaos’!!!
Killface: One of the acts we haven’t gotten to review yet, but their reputation speaks for itself. Killface have been synonymous with thrash/death metal for a few years in Dublin now and that standing is only set to grow. They are number 1 on my ‘bands to be drunk for’ list this Saturday and I will do everything in my power to ensure that happens – headbanging y’all.
Overoth: Now this is a powerhouse of a live band. Overoth are not to be f**ked with; especially since yer making them come all the way down from Belfast (maybe themselves, 7DaysDead, Zombified and Bakken will share a bus – that would be a hangover if ever there was one). Stage presence, performance – everything is nailed down tight by Overoth and the dry ice will ensure enough oxegen leaves your lungs so you get that wonderful euphoric feeling.
Zombified: Second on the list of ‘must be drunk’ bands – Zombified. Grindcore, so a change in pace from the rest of the bands playing on the day and yet another band from the grand auld North. They’ve been around a good long while but really came to full in 2010 when the cemented their current line-up. Let’s hav’ yeah – more fodder for the Zombies!
It all goes down this Saturday, April 27th at the Pint on Eden Quay, Dublin. Entrance is only €5 / Doors are at 7.30 and audience gets to vote; so get in early, avail of the drink promos and enjoy judging some quality Irish metal. There will also be a rock/metal covers band playing after the six competitors are finished – Under An Evil Spell so make a night of it.

The second semi-final of the Irish Wacken Metal Battle took place in the Pint on Saturday night and a fairly epic night it was with controversy, a packed house and a heap of metal to enjoy. In the end, Overoth, Bäkken and 7DaysDead rose to the challenge and carry on to the final, bidding Beltbuckle Overdrive (who came first in the audience vote, but were knocked out with the judges tally…..Tickets There may or may not have been judging this one J), September Cross and Dead Aeon goodbye for this year.
The winners will join Exzeltic, Zombified and Killface for the final which takes place on April 27th @ The Pint, Eden Quay, Dublin. Tickets There will be running features on each band before th27th so keep an eye out.
Gutfuck Promotions (Wayyyyy better name than ‘MCD’ IMHOyc) have announced the 2013 Dublin Day of Decay. 22 bands, 2 stages in 1 day. If you’re a fan of any sort of extreme metal then this is another excellent opportunity to check out some of Ireland and Europe’s best up and comers.
Everything from (wait for this) Thrash metal, death thrash, death metal, brutal death metal, old school death metal, goregrind, depressive blackened death, tech-death and melodic tech-death is catered for at this almost all day event.
It takes place June 1st @ Fibber MaGee’s. Doors open at 3pm and its €14 entry.
Oh, who’s playing? Well, WARPATH, Zombified, Guttrench, Overoth, VxPxOxAxAxWxAxMxC, Atrax Mantis, Scordatura, Psykosis, Cemtex, Rex Shachath, Skewered, Wound Upon Wound, Zealot Cult, Atheos, Xenocide, Killface, Dichotomy, Grinned, Aesect, Edenfire, Dead Aeon and Gargantuan will all be there. Congrats to Killface, Exzeltic and Zombified who move into the Irish Wacken Metal Battle final after Sarurday night’s semi final. The three bands beat out competition from Atheos, Twisted Wrath and Xeoncide.
The next semi-final takes place in March 23rd and features Bakken, Beltbuckle Overdrive, Dead Aeon, Eazy Tyger, Overoth
and September Cross. Again, it’ll take place @ The Pint.
