12191934_10153644523173363_7906379674306705878_nAnother great announcement today for metal heads. Not only have HELLFEST gone and announced the best festival line-up you’re ;likely to see in 2016. Not only have the less metal, but equally excellent Def Leppard released their new album – but home-grown thrash metal icons GAMA BOMB have also release their new album, Untouchable Glory.

The album features twelve new tracks and it’s about to go on here at TT HQ. Another review to work on for Halloween weekend – imagine what Christmas..blah blah, blah. Gama Bomb are great so like us, go and buy their new record quick before the hipster metal heads start recommending it.

Nuclear Assault, Gama Bomb and more to play Dublin

Posted in Gig Listing, News with tags , , , , , on November 27, 2014 by Tickets There

1973880_731919550210113_5840909587382321700_oI read this last night and my hands have just now stopped shaking enough for me to post it. DME have confirmed that Nuclear Assault are coming to Dublin in 2015 and (get ready thrash fans) they’re going to be supported by Gama Bomb, Psykosis and Animator Seriously!

All four of these bands will be playing together on one incredible night at the Voodoo Lounge on July 19th as part of Nuclear Assault’s Final Assault on Europe tour. No ticket details have been released yet but who the hell cares how much it costs? It’s happening and there’s no two ways about it. Not only Animator and Psykosis, not only Gama Bomb – but freakin’ Nuclear Assault as well! What are you even supposed to do with that?

Anyways, expect a messy Tickets There, a lot of beers, denim battle vests and savagery. If time allows, there may even be some tunes.

GAMA BOMB Fibbers Show – This Friday!

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on March 4, 2014 by Tickets There

1511702_10202510353194025_395454222_nCan you smell it? The blood, the beer, the sweat and metal goodness! GAMA BOMB’s return to Fibber MaGee’s is so close you can almost taste it.

This Friday, March 7th – EHT presents the greatest show on Dublin’s heavy metal calendar for 2014. As if GAMA BOMB weren’t enough, you’re also going to get PSYKOSIS, DEAD LABEL, AeSect, Hollow Truth, Katabolisis and Crossfire. Seven incredible bands, one incredible price and all manner of drink offers to boot. Oh, and the weekly Club Carnage is on afterwards for all those left standing – basically, the wimps and want to be journalists who don’t have the balls to pit it out for these guys.

…I’m going to be killed on Friday, aren’t I? Well – see you there.

*UPDATED: GAMA BOMB TO MAKE DUBLIN RETURN

1012242_10152100201687435_1702815403_nCan you believe it? Dublin, we’re in for another night of GAMA BOMB! Anyone who attended the mighty UnLeashed Festival at Fibber MaGee’s last August will remember the incredible performance put on by the GB and they’re coming again for round 2 of the Terror Tapes Tour.

E.H.T. are again promoting the night which is happening on March 7th upstairs in Fibbers (Venue changes from Voodoo Lounge to Fibbers). Entry is €5 and support will include Psykosis, Dead Label, AeSect, Hollow Truth and Katabolisis. Exactly! what sort of a total f***tard would you have to be to miss this show? Probably as bad as Tickets There when we missed the Season’s Beatings show last month. Anyways…

March 7th – carve it into the arm and make sure it doesn’t heal before the night. See you there!

Review: The Unleashed Festival DAY 01 – Live @ Fibber MaGees (16th August, 2013)

Posted in Gig Review, Music with tags , , , , , , , , on August 18, 2013 by Tickets There

1175712_10151835602288200_447479861_nWhat is Ireland seriously lacking? That’s right, a proper metal festival – and some other stuff Tickets There doesn’t deal with. Unlike continental Europe and the U.K., Ireland lacks a serious metal festival despite obvious popularity for the genre. Perhaps M*D and @iken (I disguised their names ;)) are too flooded with Hip Hop/Hipster D4 elitists who lack the skills to see that almost every single metal show they host sells out, unlike many of their other ill-advised follies. So it falls to metal fans themselves to start things up and tonight, EHT have made a massive step in the right direction.

The Unleashed Festival is the first of what will hopefully become a much bigger annual festival. Three days boasting some of the best home-grown talent on offer. One day of the purest thrash from the meanest streets, one day of extreme metal and one day for the under-agers who need metal too. In essence, three days of metal that caters for everyone’s taste. Unfortunately this old fogey only managed the first night, but what a night.

960004_10151835604628200_548538767_nAnimator are first up for me tonight. It’s a special show for these guys as they officially launch their debut album, Blacklisted (review coming this week). Anyone that’s heard the record knows it’s bursting with instant classics and on stage, Animator have the chops to belt them out in perfect form. ‘In God We Trust’ steals their short set and sets the perfect tone for the night.

993996_10151835604098200_773772792_nExzeltic are up next and it’s special show for them tonight as well. Long-time guitarist, Connor Eustace has sadly parted ways with the band and has been replaced by Jamie Power. Despite this being the first major show for the new line-up, they pull it off with flying colours. Jamie steps up to the plate and delivers both new and older material with amazing technique.  ‘Breaker of Nations’ and ‘Agents of Chaos‘ truly stand out and with new material now appearing, you can expect to see more of Exzeltic over the next year. Connor’s presence will be missed, but the lads prove tonight they’re not going anywhere but forward.

1095107_10151519528321396_1610632817_nThe cavalcade of who’s who in the world of Irish trash metal continues with Edenfire.  The lads from Edenfire have been building steadily over the last couple of years, landing prominent support slots (including an opening slot with Exodus earlier this week) and raising their profile with every show. Live, they’re tight, focused and each one of them knows what they’re doing, a quality that is essential for thrash metal to work. Tonight is no different as they plough through a mix of tracks from their debut EP as well as other favourites. Edenfire are in the process of writing their debut album these days and it’s one well worth looking out for.

As the night rolls on, the large crowd swells, the pints turn to shorts and the terrifying, yet exciting sign of Buckfast begins. That perfect cocktail of merriness and early stages of ridiculous drunkenness serves as the warm welcome for the next band, Psykosis.

539698_10151835603683200_92292527_nTaking the stage to a packed house, Psykosis produce a hail of riffs, aggression and fun for the gasping, sweaty crowd. Along with Exzeltic, Psykosis are also playing tonight with a slightly adjusted line-up as Rats from Dichotomy fills in for Tony Corcoran on guitar. Fans fear not – it’s just temporary, but man; Rats can certainly  play. It’s incredible just how good these guys are. They blend everything that’s great about thrash metal and deliver it with youthful passion and fun. No sooner are the band on than the pit begins. Slowly at first before encapsulating the entire standing area. I’d love to give you the set they played but amongst the haze of Jameson and active pit participation, all I remember is bashing, ‘Toxic Fugitive’ and the best craic of the night. What a band and what a night. There’s only one thing left to do, enjoy tonight’s headliners GAMA BOMB.

gAMAbOMBGama Bomb have long reigned supreme as the heroes of the Irish thrash scene. They have international acclaim, a massive arsenal of material from their four albums including this year’s incredible output, The Terror Tapes. On stage the band are on fire. They tear through their set with unrelenting power to a packed house. Build-up of quality throughout the night has been jaw dropping, but Gama Bomb display those additional years of experience and bring the night home in awe-inspiring glory. Moshing, stagediving, celling climbing and madness are this writers final memories before the madness spills into Club Carnage downstairs. A long awaited, but very welcome return to Dublin for Gama Bomb and hopefully they’ll return before the ringing notes of ‘Terror Tapes’ and ‘Hammer Slammer’ fade out from my ear drums.

Well done EHT Promotions, what a triumph of a night! All the bands outdid themselves and showed the how strong the Irish metal scene is. With debut albums pending for most of tonight’s line-up, you can expect a very exciting few years on the horizon!

MySpace Review – Sirocco

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, MySpace Review with tags , , , , , , , , , , on February 4, 2010 by Tickets There

It’s been far too long since we got a chance to do one of these. Managed to sprain, twist and dislocate things since the last time we checked in but all’s well and we’ve got a new found respect for the enduring people of Cambodia, aswell as picking up an in-depth history of the presidents box in Ford’s Theatre, Washington and finally, we’ve started a quest into researching the career of one of America’s most notorious politicians, Richard M. Nixon.

Anywho, Tickets There’s premier band search / TT bio series is back and we’re spicing things up with some Metal \,,/. After finding Waterford Celtic / Thrash metal  legends, Sirocco, we decided it was time to revive the greatest, sexiest, most entertaining and most respectable Music series currency being written anywhere in the entire country, The MySpace Review.

As usual (We don’t say almost anymore, been a long time since we used bias) we haven’t heard their album or seen them live.

I’m surprised we haven’t seen them live or even heard of them before. Sirocco formed in 2003 and they’re deadly, full stop!. Opening song God’s Salvation is like something Brian Robertson and Metallica could have penned in 1984. It’s a blistering, grinding slice of old school thrash metal mixed with some Irish styles and played with a restrained composer that very few Irish bands can pull off.

Second track Abyss is a complete turnaround in styles. Rather than giving you a brooding, dark beating like God’s Salvation, they deliver a pristine Celtic metal odyssey. No lyrics and no stopping it! Great Thin Lizzy / Iron Maiden styled dual lead guitars. Third track Blood and Soil goes back to the harder style of God’s Salvation. Some parts sound like a grunge song, others sound like Ozzy Osbourne’s singing. Other’s sound like Metallica, Megadeth…..you name it basically. A brilliant mix of styles and changes and a singer with one of the best metal voices in the country. You can’t really ask for a whole pile more can ya? Oh, did we mention riffage yet? Plenty of it, not to worry.

An Triu Creathan is another instrumental and believe it or not, it’s even better than Abyss. The guitars are heavier; the riff is piercing and the overall impacts far more powerful. Another great song.

Forsaken Shores brings us to the end and it’s just eight minutes of metal guitar mayhem, mystical (but not very convincing) lyrics about warriors and clans..etc, solos, kick drums and riffs. After a few goes, this one still isn’t sticking. It’s got alot for guitars nuts but there just isn’t a whole pile else and it seems far to drawn out. The fret solo towards the end is pretty sweet and some of the changes are great but the middle droops far too much. Saying that, nine minute opuses can’t really be properly judges after two listens so Tickets There is going back for more.

Sum it up you say? ok, ‘A Thrash Metal version of Thin Lizzy’.  Possibly the best Thrash metal band we’ve found so far from Ireland. They sound right, they play well and there’s just some awesome moments in there. Go and check them out for yourself by Clicking Here.

IRISH NOISE! – Gama Bomb (MySpace)

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, MySpace Review with tags , , , , on January 21, 2010 by Tickets There

Irish thrash metaler’s Gama Bomb’s name has been flying around for awhile. Tickets There first heard them on the great Irish Thrash Search of 08 along with acts like Mass Extinction, Slave Zero, Municipal Waste and, surprisingly enough, many others. At first we opted to get behind mass Extinction (they’ll have fun with that comment in Bruxelles TT – Ed) but now we’re ready to give the boys their well deserved chance on the TT plains, especially after being inundated with those updates about them on Blabbermouth.

Opening song Slam Anthem is a relentless monster of a track. The riffs, the solo’s, the drums, the screams and the non-stop beating it dishes out are more than enough justification for this country have its own thrash scene. Lyrically it isn’t as powerful as classic era thrash but musically it’s flawless. The styles use bounce from Metallica’s earlier, Kill Em All material to Testament and even Judas Priest. Tickets There likes this.

Skeletron is another monster of a track. The rampaging assault of the guitars is a brutal smack of pure adrenaline. The vocals are much sharper here than the previous track and overall structure is just more complex and layered with guitars rammed into every available orifice in sight. Savage, brutal, sweet!

Final track, New Eliminators of Atlantis BC is back to the same style we heard on Slam Anthem. Overall the style of all the songs is pretty much formula but if Slam Anthem is the best overall track, Skeletron has the best guitars then this one has the best chorus. A stomping beater of a chorus that actually conjures up the power most power/thrash metal groups aim for but rarely reach. A fine effort worthy of the Priest themselves.

Well short n sweet I say. As Thrash goes these guys are pretty good. The music is stellar, the singer…well, you warm up to his style pretty quickly. The only major thing Tickets There found lacking was those dark, solid stand alone riff and drum moments that give the songs pits of power than get unleashed in very small, furious bursts. In all fairness, These songs are simply ‘too busy’ to give that impending feeling of the apocalypse but after hearing them, Tickets There will be downloading their album to see what lies ahead.

Excellent band, highly recommended.
