Dyscarnate Cancel Day Of Decay Appearance

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , on May 8, 2014 by Tickets There

TBC

Dyscarnate have been forced to cancel their appearance at this year’s Day of Decay. This is being presented as neither the fault of the band and a replacement headliner is being sought. You can read the update from promoters, Beyond Decay, below.

‘Absolutely gutted to be announcing this, but due to some unforeseen and unavoidable logistical problems we’ve encountered, Dyscarnate won’t be playing at this years event. It’s through absolutely no fault of the guys themselves, they’re equally as gutted too. There will be some announcements this week and a revised admission fee to compensate…’

We’ll update you as soon as we know more. If you’re more impatient, you can follow the updates on the new headliner and all the other acts at the Official Facebook Event Page. The Day of Decay will go ahead anyway on May 31st and June 1st (yes, two days – not confusing) at Fibber MaGees.

On Friday night, Theories Divide, Dead Label! and Killface beat out competition from Skewered, Aeolian, Crossfire and Legion of Wolves to take their places in the Bloodstock M2TM Irish Final where they’ll compete against Semi-Final A winners Psykosis, AeSect and Alpheidae.

All six semi-final winners will compete in the grand final this Saturday at Fibbers for their chance to play this years Bloodstock Festival. Doors on the night will open at 8.00pm. Good to luck to all and c’mon my favourites Psykosis, Killface and AeSect!…and Dead Label :p All the details can be found on the Facebook Event Page.

Seriously though – these competitions are a great way of discovering new bands (and established bands) from around the country. The more rounds – the more new names you can add to your playlists.

DME To Announce Announcement about an up and coming Announcement

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music with tags , , , , , , , on May 6, 2014 by Tickets There

DME

Exciting news for Dublin metal fans as our main supplier of non-Point Depot filling mania have some exciting news to announce. Unfortunately though, fans will have to wait days to find out what the news is as DME are only in a position to hint that they will announce an announcement over the coming week.

Inpatient fans flooded the DME Facebook page this morning and inundated head honcho, Fergal ‘H’ with names, hoping desperately to receive a confirmation. Using a sophisticated formula, assisted with lashings of logic, history, hope and pant wetting excitement – fans proposed names, tours, possibilities, theories, counter-theories, arguments and naked hostility in the hopes and forcing DME into a position where it no longer makes sense to keep things secret. Unfortunately the responses were giving away no clues, but that didn’t stop the guessing.

It’s got to be Cannibal Corpse, Revocation and Aeon”, proclaims Stephen from Ballybrack. “They’re playing Europe in October, November and December and they’ve days off before the tour, after Helsinki, Gothenburg, Madrid, Lilli, Copenhagen, Warsaw, Nova Gorica and Uden. Plus six of those dates fall on a full moon which is 85.72% of the free days which corresponds to the number of full moons on free days on two of the past three times they’ve played here. It’s fucking obviously got to be them!”.

DME were not immediately available for comment on the matter, but Paul from Raheny offered a different opinion.

2014-evile-724x1024Cannibal Corpse me bollocks”, he writes. “Everyone knows they never play shows in Ireland that close to Cambodia’s Coronation Day when the year is dividable by two. It’s more than likely the Evile show is just being pushed out another twenty four months and reduced down to €0.36 entrance”.

With days to wait, the comments section on DME’s wall is likely to get more and more vicious as impatience, hormonal angst and metal hostility fuse together in a possible rampage of internet troll-ism and terror. Facebook admins are advising patient followers to temporarily disable alerts for new messages until the full announcement has been revealed.

Review: Twisted Autocracy – Reinstate the Hate (EP)

Posted in EP Review, Music with tags , , on May 1, 2014 by Tickets There

a2654034394_2We’ve been looking to this for about half a year and finally the time has come for Twisted Autocracy. Tickets There has an almost Axl Rose choreographed history with TA as we’ve managed to turn up late for all but one of the fourteen thousand times they’ve played nights we attended. However that one show, much like Snowblind last week, was enough. Not being major, major hardcore fans – there was a little awkwardness at first – but you can’t deny music of this quality and intensity.

Reinstate the Hate is the band’s debut EP and it’s five slices of savagely fast, obnoxious metal that pulls no punches. Could that have sounded any more cliché? Yes – the answer is yes it could. Seriously though – from the moment ‘A Worthless Place’ booms on the headphones it’s hard not to just listen to this EP over and over again. The E.P.’s title track, ‘Pretty Fucked Pretty Quick‘ and the excellent ‘Corporation Defecation’ are all presented with the same, fist pumping energy and give the listener the perfect introduction to their sound and the potential for future releases.

A great listen and highly recommended for all metal fans. Have a listen on the band’s official bandcamp page now.

Bass Player Colony Collapse Threatens Irish Music Scene

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music, News with tags , , , , , , on May 1, 2014 by Tickets There

bass1

Over the past three weeks, a noticeable shortage of Irish bass players has emerged. Several bands have taken to Facebook, their websites and twitter feeds to literally beg for replacement players. Atominated, Stone Trigger and even our new favourites – Stereo Nasty are all in dire need for the 4-6 stringers, but bass players are keeping quiet and out of sight leading many to believe we are now experiencing a catastrophic bassist colony collapse in Ireland.

IMG_8856Taking to Tickets There, Rory – a self-confessed bass player from Clondalkin, admitted that the musicians have finally had enough of the reckless mocking they’ve had to endure ever since they put down those €100 beginner fender guitars and moved on to the “far more complicated” fender copy bass. Mocking remarks, such as “you’ll never get laid playing bass”, “bass players are just bad guitarists” and “I’m sleeping with your lead guitarist… and singer” have taken their toll according to Rory.

We’ve simply had enough”, he adds. “Bass players provide the backbone to everything. Without us, where would the band be? ..and Justice For All – that’s where and look how shit that was”.

Mass hibernation, 24 hour long funky bedroom solo-performances and a sharp drop in bass sales is expected to widely impact live performances, album recordings and the record industry on a whole according to Rory, but singers, guitarists and even drummers are in disagreement.

IMG_8857We hadn’t actually realized our bass player was missing”, admits Tommy from Stone Trigger. “We hit the studio and recorded all the solos, lyrics, drum beats and thought we were good to go. It was only when our producer mentioned bass that we copped on he’d left. We contacted the guy who used to play for us and it turned out he’d left six months beforehand. Fortunately the crowd never seemed to notice”.

Bass players from around the country are expected to make a final stand by marching down the Liffey to the O2 this Saturday. Over a dozen marchers and spectators are expected to attend with Gardi already scaling up a riot control / counter terrorism squad in case marchers get out of hand. “Mostly it’ll be a peaceful protest, but there could be an element that’ll get out of hand and maybe lurk and leer too much” adds Rory.

There are no traffic restrictions expected to be put in place for Saturday’s march.

Judas Priest Release New Song

10255072_10152314542173965_2088666024310493212_oJUDAS PRIEST ARE BACK!

‘Redeemer of Souls’ is the first new Priest track since 2008’s Nostradamus! Can you believe it’s been that long? Since then they’ve announced their retirement, parted company with legendary guitarist, K. K. Downing, hired Richie Faulkner to replace him and rebuked the retirement announcement. Us Ireland folks were lucky to catch them back in 2009 when they played an epic show here with Megadeth and Testament providing support. Now, we finally have the Priest back on form.

Redeemer of Souls is the title track from their forthcoming seventeenth studio album. It’s a pretty classic slice of good old fashioned studs ‘n’ leather metal. Halford sounds great, the guys sound great – ALL HAIL PRIEST! Call that a review? Yes I do. Never mind my opinion, give it a listen as see what you think.

1926919_10152342812869561_2445299845326711602_nWell the Coldwar boys have been courting a little controversy recently (well, Trevor McLave has), but that can only help build the hype around their new album, Pantheist which the boys will be celebrating at it’s release party this evening. Trevor’s tattoo’s have caused a commotion after blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Great singer, great band – always loved by Tickets There – bloggers who like to think we’re not fascists 🙂 …well, most of the time anyway.

Coldwar are playing the Voodoo Lounge tonight with the legendary Killface and mighty OVEROTH supporting them. €10 not only gets you entry, but you’ll get a free copy of the album as well. A gig with three savage bands and an album that’s being praised left, right and centre. What else could you ask for?

Doors 7.30pm

Entry: €10  (plus copy of Pantheist)
Killface 8-8.35.
Overoth 8.50 – 9.30
Coldwar 9.45 – 10.45

Psykosis, AeSect and Alpheidae proceed to the M2TM Final

IMG_8777Congratulations to PSYKOSIS , AeSect and Alpheidaeon on winning Semi-Final A of the Bloodstock M2TM last night. They didn’t win it easy mind as they faced stiff competition from Nautilus, the exceptional Snowblind, who this wannabe journalist has always missed at every single gig and now has very deep regrets about not having a little more self control and catching them before; and also Between Horizons.

Psykosis gearing up to walk on stage. (Tony (L), Shane (R))

Psykosis gearing up to walk on stage. (Tony (L), Shane (R))

The three bands now move into the final for a chance to appear at Bloodstock 2014 and play alongside Megadeth, Emperor, Down, Amon Amarth, Carcass, Saxon and many more. Good timing for Psykosis as they’re planning to release their debut album, Welcome to The Psykoward, later this summer.

Well done all!

Stereo Nasty Release Full Demo

Tickets There did not put in the work for this one, but the excellent Irish Metal Archive did and fair dues – what a savage band.

Based in Kildare and Carlow, the group are influenced by the likes of Judas Priest, W.A.S.P. Ozzy and a whole plethora of classic eighties icons and they’ve found a way to harness that sound and deliver some fresh, riff heavy metal. I’ve just given their debut EP a spin on the recommendation of IMA and wow – savage stuff.

Check out the band’s Bandcamp Page now and try them out. Three great tunes and definitely a band worth getting very excited about…well, once they hire a bass player.

Congratulations Axl Rose – God!

Axl Rose was awarded the Ronnie James Dio lifetime achievement award at the Revolver Golden Gods awards. Well done Axl, highly deserved.

I’m sure there were other awards, but they probably went to all that new crap like FFDP and so on that people vote for, At least they got this one right. Also Slayer showed up to preview their new tune which was nice for those in attendance. Apparently their performance was being kept a closely guarded secret and their dressing room had ‘ABBA‘ as the band name 🙂

ABBA – what a total waste of fucking everything that was every put into them. Fuck you Abba, fuck you!

SLAYER: New Music and Return to Ireland!

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, New Music, News, Special Features with tags , , , , , , , , , , on April 24, 2014 by Tickets There

img_50162014 is definitely looking much brighter than last year for the mightiest of all gods – SLAYER. Flash back to this time last year and the world was just days away from hearing the news that founding guitarist and chief songwriter, Jeff Hanneman had passed. After years battling a flesh eating virus, Jeff finally succumbed to his hidden battle with alcohol leaving the recording and touring of the band in immediate doubt. To top things off, Dave Lombardo – Slayer’s long time suffering drummer had been unceremoniously kicked out just weeks before and his permanent replacement (Paul Bostaph) was still to be announced. No founding drummer, no chief songwriter – a sad time for Slayer and their fans.

img_5062A month later Slayer took to the stage in The Academy, Dublin for the first of three Irish shows and all worries about the bands stability went out the window. They rampaged through two blinding sets in Dublin before heading to Belfast and doing it all over again. The band looked and sounded great, with Jeff’s replacement (GARY ‘THE LEGEND’ HOLT!) filling the part like a pro and Paul easily slipping back into his old chair behind the iconic Tom and Kerry. The band made little reference to Jeff’s passing, but rumours circulated that Slayer were now at an end in recording terms. Thankfully that turned out to be bullshit as they’ve just surprised the world with a brand new tune – ‘Implode’. Not a bad song at all and one that’s currently monopolizing the TT cans. Scroll down further and give it many, many spins. (You can also download it for free from Slayer.net)

img_5072TO TOP IT OFF – tickets for Slayer’s recently announced three Irish shows go on sale tomorrow morning. This time they’re hitting Belfast twice on June 29th and 30th and Dublin’s Academy on July 1st. With new material, some time between Jeff’s passing and the dismissal of Dave – things are finally in motion to move into a new era for Slayer. If ‘Implode’ is anything to go by, we have nothing to worry about. The future is blood, the future is SLAYER!

AND – to all those giving out that Slayer shouldn’t do anything without Jeff and Dave- shit up your face. A band that’s been together that long are like a family. It’s everything and you seriously expect Tom and Kerry to give up their entire lives, after three decades together because some of their family have moved on or they’ve had a falling out with someone? Life stinks, shit happens – you move on. That’s how it is so deal with it.

SLAYER!

Slayer Irish Tour Dates 2014

  • June 29th: The Limelight, Belfast
  • June 30th: The Limelight, Belfast
  • July 1st: The Academy, Dublin

Tickets on sale tomorrow morning from Ticketmaster.ie and all usual outlets.

Joe Elliott & Porterhouse Launch New Ale – ‘Louder’

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on April 22, 2014 by Tickets There

5391518560113Def Leppard / Down ‘N’ Outz singer, Joe Elliott has teamed up with The Porterhouse Chain to release his second rock star drink –  Louder. Leppard fans may remember a few years back when he release his first one – Down ‘N’ Outz larger, which this writer will admit was an acquired taste. This time however they’re going for an ale and it’s coming in at a lovely 11%! (that’s not a coincidence, it is a direct reference to Spinal Tab).  Couple of bottles and you’ll be…thirty for more I guess. Here’s the blurb from Porterhouse,

An American style Barley wine. Big on flavour, big on hops, and big on alcohol. an unseasonably strong beer, brewed with lots of dark malts to give a rich malt character, finishing with a distinctive hop aroma and a little sweetness.

So doesn’t sound like one for fans of Coors Light. Expect a taste update from Tickets There within the week!

Pyskosis Announce Album Title

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on April 22, 2014 by Tickets There

10270769_10152859221929762_6396454584800178621_nIt’s been promised, it’s been recorded and now we’re on the home stretch in the build up to one of the most exciting releases you could ask for – the debut album from Psykosis. Those who read Tickets There might have picked up a certain affection we hold for the band. It’s not a warm, embracing, loving affecting you understand – it’s more a hostile, cannibalistic, whiskey fuelled sense of ridiculous manslaughter mayhem sort of affection. Today that affection is growing as the album name and possible art work hint have been unveiled by the band.

‘Welcome to the Psykoward’ is the title suggested for the Dublin band’s first full length release. The date is sketchy, but it’s being promised to appear this summer and the band are continuing on with live shows in the mean time. You can catch this in Fibber MaGee’s this Friday when they compete in Quarter Semi-section Alpha Final ABB 123z of the Bloodstock completion. After that they’re supporting M.O.D. on June 24th before the highly anticipated and long time coming Evile, eventually take the stage of the Voodoo lounge on September 26th.

This promises to be one of the most exciting releases of the year so you can almost maybe bet money Tickets There will have regular updates*

*Don’t bet money – you know what we’re like.

HELLFEST Running Order Leaks

Posted in Festival News, Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , , on April 22, 2014 by Tickets There

Hellfest-2014-Programme-640x898Hellfest 2014, potentially the greatest metal festival of all time is just two months away and that should be just enough time to narrow down your viewing choices for the weekend now that the running order has been leaked. Is it genuine? It sure seems to be and this writer is currently marking off the must see’s according to it. To see the leak daily breakdown’s, pop over and give struggling metal site http://www.metalorgie.com/ (they probably don’t get half the traffic we do :))

For anyone who hasn’t realized it, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Megadeth, Soundgarden, Aerosmith, Emperor, Carcass, Death, Monster Magnet and hundreds of others will be descending upon Clisson, France to raise…nah, no need to say that. They’re going to be there., they’re going to put on the greatest three days of live music we’ve ever seen and we’re going to return to our respective homes as pale, shallow vessels of our former selves. We shall never skip an opportunity about that one weekend in 2014 where heavy Metal and heaven met on a field for three days and how it was the peak in our otherwise unfulfilling lives. ..>Well, it is Tuesday after a bank holiday – I’m allowed to be depressing.

Three days passes are sold out, one day passes for the Friday and Saturday or sold out, but if you want to see Emperor, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Soundgardern and more – you can still purchase Sunday passes from THIS LINK – DO IT NOW FFS!
