glasgowbury

Glasgowbury is now entering its thirteenth year as a festival and it just keeps getting better. Yesterday they announced the first list of names who’ll be appearing this year and there’s tasty choices for all music heads out there.

133059_1787976945938_1434990324_31885493_7829037_oThe festival aims to support local Northern Irish bands and The Answer, The Japanese Popstars and And So I Watch You From Afar aim to bring in the punters and demonstrate how strong Northern bands are right now. Helping them in this task will be (deep breath) Jetplane Landing, Little Bear, Axis Of, Ed Zealous, In Their Thousands, More Than Conquerors, Million Dollar Reload, Trucker Diablo, The Bonnevilles, Runaway GO, PigsAsPeople, Vanilla Gloom, The Wood Burning Savages, Pretty Child Backfire, Furlo, Robyn G Shiels and Rosie Carney – with many, many more still to be announced (about 50 from what we’ve heard).

The festival will take place over two days for the first time, July 20th – 21st with a ‘County Derry Showcase’ happening on the 19th…so really a three day job. If you want more than music to spend three nights ibn a field then Glasgowbury have you sorted as they’ve also announced their G-Spot Comedy stage will return and there’ll be a heap of carnival/Samba band activated, technology and gaming demonstrations / activities.

Tickets for Glasgowbury 2013, priced from just £35, are on sale now from this location.

LIVE VIDEOS: OVEROTH / EXZELTIC / PSYKOSIS

Posted in Music, Music Video, News with tags , , , , , , , , on April 30, 2013 by Tickets There

After conquering the world of blogging, Tickets There thinks its time for the big screen. That’s right, we’re building up to a trillion dollar budget, 7D – multi-layer affect full length feature that’ll make Avatar look like a penny flip book from the 1400’s. Before we embark on our Hollywood adventure, we’ve decided to post three clips taken at a recent shows of Overoth, Exzeltic and Psykosis. These will stay up until the bands threaten to sue me.

They catch the bands right in the thick of things. Here’s a short note on each poorly displayed clip.

Overoth

Taken at their recent winning performance from the Wacken Metal Battle final @ The Pint – April 27th 2013.

Exzeltic

Taken at the same show as Overoth. Exzeltic performing one of their show stopping instrumentals.

Psykosis

Taken from a Fibber MaGee’s show earlier in the year. The date? Gone with the liquor that made me forget it. Oh, April 13th actually (it’s in the title :))

Forward all soliciter mails to ‘He Who Shall Not Be Named’, Tickets There Headquarters, Dublin, Ireland, The World.

IRON MAIDEN Drummer’s Son Arrested in Florida

NickoMCBrain

What’s going on in the McBrain family? I normally wouldn’t report personal family stories about bands but this is just too funny. Nicko McBrain, legendary drummer of Iron maiden has seen his wife (Rebecca McBrain) charged with battery back in February and now his son (Justin McBrain) has been arrested for theft! What did he steal? This is where it gets really weird. He stole a half-eaten chocolate bunny, half an orange (which he consumed on the premises according to the report), a belly ring, cosmetics and a freezer pack; all from a woman’s handbag.

mallow-lance-medieval-marshmallow-toasterYou have to ask yourself: what is going on? The wife is out trying to stab people (with a decorative lance! Not just a souvenir folks) and the song commits easily the weirdest theft in the history of rock n roll madness. Here’s the other thing – he’s being held on a $25,000 bond! Surely for $25K you could by a full chocolate bunny, chocolate egg and some unused cosmetics, belly rings and freezer packs as far as the eye can see.

Whatever about the victims, congrats to the McBrain family for being more entertaining than Ozzy’s!

20130428-080813.jpgCongratulations to OVEROTH, winners of the 2013 Wacken Metal Battle Irish finals. The Belfast lads will be heading to Germany to represent our wee island against 30+ other nations this August in the world final at W.O.A.

Overoth managed to fend off stiff competition from the other finalists Exzeltic, Killface, Zombified, 7DaysDead and Bakken to make it through. Killface ended up winning the audience vote that saw Overoth take second place. However, a unanimous decision from the judges made the final choice.

Previous winners of the competition include Coldwar (2011) and Warpath (2012). Tickets There wishes Overoth the best of luck in the final and congratulations to all the bands who played tonight. Ye were all excellent!

Finally! Finnish glam metallers, Reckless Love, have released ‘Night On Fire’, the first single from their forthcoming, third album. Night on Fire takes no time whatsoever to warm up – it’s a fiery, fantastic piece of cock-pop-rock that displays their incredible knack for anthematic, sing along guitar laced music. The voodoo video can be seen below and is well worth several watches. Great tune for a happy/sunny Friday!

There’s no set release date for the, as of yet unnamed, third album, but the band have hinted it’ll see the light of day either late summer/early autumn. According to lead guitarist Pepe, the band already has 15 songs recorded so full steam ahead! It will follow 2011’s Animal Attraction. All hail Finland – All hail Reckless Love (Welcome back lads!)

Iron Maiden’s ‘The Trooper’ Brewers struggle with demand

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , on April 25, 2013 by Tickets There

trooper
The family of brewers behind Iron Maiden’s first ever ale- ‘Trooper‘ are extending their working week to meet pre-order demands! Producing three batches a day, Robinsons say 250,000 pints have already been pre-sold ahead of the official May 9th release date. According to the official website there are some restrictions on the sale of the beer and it can only be pre-ordered from some countries. Is Ireland on the list? keep reading…

IMBThe Ale comes in at a lovely 4.7% and has been rigorously taste tested by singer, Bruce Dickinson. Robinsons brewers are based in Stockport, England and have been in the beer business since 1838; just around the same time Eddie donned his read coat and union jack to pose for the tap.

The cover of course comes from the band’s 1983 single The Trooper from Piece of Mind album. Irish fans will remember this song very well from their 2003 and 2005 shows (can’t help but mention it). A great song, hopefully a great beer and will it be available in Ireland???? – yes!. You can pre-order the ale from the official Iron Maiden Beer website now.

Wacken Metal Battle 2013 Irish Final – This Saturday (Preview)

    Posted in Gig Listing, IRISH NOISE!, Music, News, Special Features with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 23, 2013 by Tickets There

    5599_526581720714060_314297096_n

The time has come; this Saturday six of the country’s best metal bands will compete for a chance to represent Ireland at the world Wacken Metal Battle final! You know what that means? It means one of these bands will travel to Germany and reign holy hell down on the lousy competition other nations see fit to select and Ireland will conquer the world of metal as we know it.

Before all that happens – you, the great unwashed, must pile into The Pint and see these global leaders of the future before they get too big. Six bands, all very well known on the local scene and all well established and road tested – each one with a thirst for blood that would put Romania and Luis Suárez to shame.

[Updated] Stage times have just been announced, can be found below. Before that, let’s have a look at the bands who will be battling (pun intended) on the night in alphabetical order.

BGE609PCMAAurUr7 Days Dead: 7 Days Dead were, in my eyes, the surprise winner of Heat #2 of the finals. They fought off stiff completion from Dead Aeon and Beltbuckle Overdrive to make it through and deservedly so. After just two year’s together the band already sound and play like a tightly functioning unit. Their debut EP, Beyond Within, came out in February this year and displayed real talent and ability to diversify their sound.

Bäkken: Another Belfast band coming down to kick some Celtic arse. Bäkken are a ‘new'(not ‘Nu’) metal band who good for old skool metal tactics (NWOBHM), rather than letting the new stuff interfere too much (basically – no rapping or Chester Bennington impressions). With an album and a lot of expierence already under their belts, Bäkken are a must see for this final.

563925_10151591349393200_641361375_nExzeltic: Born in Dublin, raised by Thrash! Exzeltic are our favourites for this final. Formed in 2007, Exzeltic are still quite a young band and have come a long way over the past year since they last competed in the finals for this festival. They’re older, wiser, more fosued than before and their stage show is armageddon. Expect lashings of tracks from their two demos (Higher Forces and Ground Zero) and hopefully a new tune or two. ‘Agents of Chaos’!!!

Killface: One of the acts we haven’t gotten to review yet, but their reputation speaks for itself. Killface have been synonymous with thrash/death metal for a few years in Dublin now and that standing is only set to grow. They are number 1 on my ‘bands to be drunk for’ list this Saturday and I will do everything in my power to ensure that happens – headbanging y’all.

BGUU97qCMAECQCNOveroth: Now this is a powerhouse of a live band. Overoth are not to be f**ked with; especially since yer making them come all the way down from Belfast (maybe themselves, 7DaysDead, Zombified and Bakken will share a bus – that would be a hangover if ever there was one). Stage presence, performance – everything is nailed down tight by Overoth and the dry ice will ensure enough oxegen leaves your lungs so you get that wonderful euphoric feeling.

Zombified: Second on the list of ‘must be drunk’ bands – Zombified. Grindcore, so a change in pace from the rest of the bands playing on the day and yet another band from the grand auld North. They’ve been around a good long while but really came to full in 2010 when the cemented their current line-up. Let’s hav’ yeah – more fodder for the Zombies!

It all goes down this Saturday, April 27th at the Pint on Eden Quay, Dublin. Entrance is only €5 / Doors are at 7.30 and audience gets to vote; so get in early, avail of the drink promos and enjoy judging some quality Irish metal. There will also be a rock/metal covers band playing after the six competitors are finished – Under An Evil Spell so make a night of it.

    STAGE TIMES
    21:00 – 21:22 Killface
    21:37 – 21:59 Exzeltic
    22:14 – 22:36 Overoth
    22:51 – 23.13 Bakken
    23:28 – 23:50 Zombified
    00:05 – 00:27 7 Days Dead

00:45 – 01:30 Under An Evil Spell (Rock and Metal Covers)

POLL: MEAT LOAF Bat Out of Hell I Vs Bat Out of Hell II – Best?

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music with tags , , , , , , , on April 23, 2013 by Tickets There

    MeatLoaf_Banner

Clash of the titans? Not sure I’d go that far, but Meat Loaf’s Dublin and Belfast shows are only a few weeks ago and I have questions for ye.

I’m currently listening to my Essential Meat Loaf Spotify playlist and ‘It Just Won’t Quit’, ‘Objects In The Rear View Mirror’, ‘Rock N’ Roll Dreams Come True’ and ‘Everything Louder’ all just played in a row and I can’t help but second guess the common agreement that Bat Out of Hell I is the classic. I believe II has just as much to offer – what do you think?

…and the first person to try and insult Meat Loaf gets a slap!

Review: Dead Aeon – Apotheosis (EP Review)

    Posted in EP Review, Music with tags , , , , , , , on April 23, 2013 by Tickets There

2656672004-1Monaghan blackened/death metal heads, Dead Aeon, currently own all rights to my headphones. For several days it’s been next to near impossible to turn off their debut EP, Apotheosis. Five tracks of blistering intensity, voiced through extreme metal. After seeing them play a storming set at this year’s Wacken Metal battle, TT knew we’d need a revisit and that time has come.

Normally I’d start at the beginning for a review, but I’ve been driving folks mad with one song in particular from this EP, ‘Rise To Power’, and now it’s your turn. There’s a moment on Rise To Power, about 3.28 seconds in that will leave you completely gobsmacked.  A stampeding explosion of metal that equates to the force of an atomic bomb for the ears. Easily my favourite piece of this record, but not by far.

The EP is extremely strong, especially for a debut release. Jack Penders’ half screeching / half roaring vocals cut their way through a rampaging marathon of double bass drums, heavy snare / symbols and doom/death metal guitars riffs. ‘Omnicide’, ‘Mass Culture Theory’ and ‘All Shall Fade’ are strong songs that deliver an overwhelming amount of power, before the previously mentioned Rise To Power bounds in to conquer all. ‘Veins of The Earth’ is another gem to close the release off with. As heavy as anything else on the EP but more accomplished than the first three tracks.

If you’re looking for some quality home-grown metal, Dead Aeon are a good start (and don’t forget to listen to Rise to Power – now! Video below so you have no excuse).

Review: Twisted Wrath – Madman’s Chorus (EP Review)

    Posted in EP Review, IRISH NOISE!, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 18, 2013 by Tickets There

290668102-1Sligo Rovers, the best pubs in the country and less stress; all things I miss about living back in the west. Now it turns out there’s something new to go back for; the incredible, Twisted Wrath. The Galway/Mayo quartet have been on the go for almost six years and have recently put out their second EP, Madman’s Chorus, as a free download. I’m writing that too much today, you f**kers should be paying for music this good 🙂

Madman’s Chorus is an all too short slice of thrash metal Gold. Four songs of pure head banging glory. Wall to wall riffs/shredding solos, speed drums and anthem grounded vocals. There’s not a moment on this EP where your attention begins to wane or songs drag out. Opener ‘North Titan’ is a mesh of Manowar meets Testament! Epic in content and uncompromising in its mission. The EP’s title track continues the power and adds an almost Maiden element to the lyrics. Nowhere to hide – this song is a hammering attack of thrash metal at its best (well, close to its best).

‘To The Sword‘ comes swooping in, not very distinct from the previous songs, before suddenly accelerating into Slayer-esque thrash territory; where’s it’s harder riffs and grittier, heavier vocals. By the time ‘Smoke’ kicks in you’ll be begging for more but sadly, it’s the closing tune and a fitting end to a great second EP from a very promising band.

With all these Dublin bands blowing TT’s auld head these days, it’s great to see homeland bands aren’t lagging behind. Twisted Wrath are an excellent find and well worth as much of your time as you can spare. Listen to them now on Bandcamp.
