Review: METALLICA – ‘Through The Never’

Posted in Film Review, Music, News with tags , , , , , , on October 8, 2013 by Tickets There

metallicathroughtheneverlargeposterMetallica’sThrough The Never’  hit cinemas late last week and doesn’t appear to have been pulling in the punters in any great numbers. Suprising when you consider the size of the crowds James, Lars, Kirk and Rob can draw when they grace the shores of any country in the world. Despite this being a movie rather than live show, the experience is everything you’d expect from something with Metallica’s name stamped across it. Big, bad, bold and brilliant.

Through The Never is a mash of Metallica playing an incredible career spanning live show that brings back beloved stage props, tour incidents and classic songs. From Kill ‘Em All to Death Magnetic – the boys bruise through sixteen of their crunchiest, heaviest, fastest songs while their young roadie/gofer treks through a war-torn city in search of materials badly needed by the band. The whole experience is presented in 3D, bringing the sweat from Lars back  right onto your lap. The band sound incredible and each one casts an imposing figure on the screen – tearing through their set with extreme power. Add in a little humour and some incredible scenes featuring full on violence, death and anarchy – you’ve got Through The Never.

If you haven’t been to an IMAX screening before then I can assure you it lives up to every expectation you could possibly have. The IMAX screen in Cineworld, Parnell St. is beyond impressive, imposing and makes adults feel like kids in the cinema again and if you haven’t seen Metallica on IMAX, then you need to sort that quick! It . Book tickets now!

Movie Review – VIVA! Hysteria

Posted in Film Review, Music, News with tags , , , , , on September 20, 2013 by Tickets There

559365_10151843921107435_815128562_nThe criteria for storylines and starlets has apparently lowered in Hollywood. Nowhere is this more obvious than in VIVA! Hysteria which bounds to cinema screens across the world this week. Offering nothing to any discerning viewer and relying heavily on its Def Leppard laced soundtrack and a live performance by the band themselves. Almost every hint of the movie’s intricate plot and diverse and interesting characters is diluted to the point of near non-existence thanks to the director’s obvious David Lynch influence and Darren Aronofsky delivery.

1175649_10151844875777435_27551726_nFor 90 minutes the viewer is required to carefully study thousands of faces, waiting to pick up on the disappointingly weak storyline that brazenly focuses on ‘two ladies’ quest to hog monitor time before being eclipsed by the man only known as ‘I keep my arm on the ramp dude’. The quality of the actors is on par with any academy award winning nominee from the past thirteen years, made more surprising by the fact that all the stars are all new comers; however the intrusion of the background artists and camera work levels their role in the film to mere ‘attendees’.

On the plus side, you are treated to a full performance of Hysteria, the major catalyst in the story by one of the world’s most beloved and distinguished bands, Def Leppard. Joe, Rick, Viv, Phil and Richard all play a blinder and despite this being a complex communist spy / art-house / independent / drug culture / hammer horror homage to Charlie Chaplin in story, the music ends up stealing every minute. Def Leppard well done – but unknown director, you have wronged the movie industry. Next time try some character dialogue. Fortunately Joe Elliott used his opportunities to keep a few laughs coming.

Motörhead Announce new album details

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on September 4, 2013 by Tickets There

1150872_672860136079631_1477616986_nThe true lords of rock ‘n’ roll are coming back! It’s been almost three years since The Wörld Is Yours hit the shelves and it’s been a long wait for something new from the mighty Motörhead; especially considering the horrible reports that came from Europe over the summer regarding Lemmy’s health. Well never fear, Lemmy is here and he has new tunes for you. There’s a great press release which I’m including below but..

Aftershock will see the light of day on October 18th – 21st. Also Classic rock will be doing a CD/Mag dealie. NO IRISH SHOWS in the tour so you won’t find a listing of the other dates here. Yeah – that’s how it works, Motörhead or no Motörhead.

Silence, silence

Silence when you speak to me!

 -Lemmy Kilmister

Like the juggernaut you prayed would keep on crushing you, like the friend that still royally pisses off your parents and like a loyal standard of crunchy, greasy, punky, bluesy, gutsy screw-you rock’n’roll, Motörhead stride out through their 38th year brandishing more swagger and attitude then your ears could begin to comprehend.

On Oct 21st, 2013 Motörhead will deliver their 21st studio album, an enormous and prophetic Aftershock. Recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood,it is a true leveller, a crushing confirmation of everything Motörhead stands for, marching from the dust storm to deliver 14 belting statements which see Motörhead in perhaps their best writing form for years. There’s swagger, there’s punch, there’s speed and there’s dirty filthy grooves, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee showing clearly that Motörhead is not simply a band, it’s a genre!

That genre, more than ever, resonates with hearty independence and swashbuckle. Whether it’s “Heartbreaker” throwing hooks and riffs into your head, the double-kick concussiveness of “Paralyzed” with Campbell’s fuelled attack, or the thunderous ride-off-the-Rickenbacker Motörcharge of “Going To Mexico”, Aftershock takes gleeful twists and turns which re-announce the Motörlegend. There’s the smokey biker bar blues in the shape of “Dust And Glass”, Lemmy’s late-night vocals evoking last-call and melancholy, the pogo-powered punk-spiked stab of “Queen Of The Damned” and the deliciously steamy, humid mournful “Lost Woman Blues” which midway through decides to kick over the stool and stomp out the saloon door.

“Steal it if you must, buy it if you can!” says Lemmy, who’s pride in the album is so immense that guests to his home and dressing room in the last couple of months have been treated to extremely loud airings of the rough mixes, while Phil Campbell adds, “I really think the variation on the album shows that we’ve dug deep and produced some of our best work for a long time.”

“It is,” says Mikkey Dee, “a really, really strong Motörhead album, one that really does define everything this band stands for.”

He’s not wrong. Because Motörhead are Motörhead are Motörhead…and their Aftershock will be felt worldwide…

Aftershock: Track Listing:

Heartbreaker
Coup de Grace
Lost Woman Blues
End Of Time
Do You Believe
Death Machine
Dust And Glass
Going To Mexico
Silence When You Speak To Me
Crying Shame
Queen Of The Damned
Knife
Keep Your Powder Dry
Paralyzed

Reckless Love Release ‘So Happy I Could Die’

Posted in Music, Music Video, New Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , on August 23, 2013 by Tickets There

20130823-111825.jpgThe second single from their forthcoming album, Spirit, is here! Fans have been waiting with pained faces and bated breath for the follow-up to ‘Night On Fire’ and our favourite Finnish lads have delivered. ‘So Happy I Could Die’ is an excellent harder rock swagger than anything we’ve heard from the lads in a while. You can almost hear their Guns N’Roses era sound stream through as the song harks back to bad ass tunes like ‘Garden of Eden’, before propelling into one of their classic anthemic pop rock masterpieces.

Reckless Love are a band normally filed under guilty pleasures, but that’s not where they belong. We need more Reckless Love in our daily lives. Nightclubs, bars, bands, trains, planes and automobiles – everyone should be playing Reckless Love everywhere all the time. A phenomenal portal to fun, frolics and awesomeness. We need more Reckless Love and less everything else.

Spirit will see its official; release on August 30th. It’s the bands third album and currently shaping up to be their best! Dearest RL and DME, please find a way to return to Ireland this year. We need ye!

Red Enemy Play Fibber MaGees This Friday

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , , on August 22, 2013 by Tickets There

1005240_10201384708567137_946280632_nRed Enemy seem to be a little bored of hanging around for their debut album these days. In order to combat it, they’ve put together one very tasty line-up in Fibber MaGee’s this Friday. Aside from themselves, their show will feature Two Tales of Woe (I thought they split up years ago?), Vile Regression, Hollow Truth and Leatspiders. That’s this Friday, upstairs in Fibbers. The price? Well Red Enemy want to see bodies packed in for a good time so they’re going with a ‘pay what you feel’ policy. So thrown in a couple of euro or a tenner, your choice.

Remember, bands and promoters who put on these free shows generally do it at a loss. If you want to see local talent going up the ranks then don’t be a cheap skate. For five bands throw in a tenner sher. it’s worth it and you get a full night of entertainment and free drinks. What more could you ask for?

Shave The Pagan Pope: Live Music and CUT-THROAT Shaving For Charity

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , on August 20, 2013 by Tickets There

1000585_634285503257456_544986048_nI’m not 100% sure how to report this one as the details seem a little sparse, but this Thursday (Aug 22nd)  in Fibber MaGee’s, some chap named John POPE Ryan will get shaved by a tattooist named Philie Ob to the tune of five live bands – and it’s all for charity. Oh, and as the headline says, the shaving happens with a cut-throat razor.

I’m afraid I don’t know about tickets or that, but playing on the night will be the legendary WARPATH, along with Kerouac, Hard Rockin Hobo, Little Brothers and Freddy And The Smokers.

Check out the official event page for updates.

NAPALM DEATH Added to Children of Bodom Show

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , , on August 19, 2013 by Tickets There

1093864_512709502131120_1258127318_oDME – obviously totally pi$$sed off with our original short post about Children of Bodom’s October show have gone and done something very, very special – Cleary to prompt a more meaty post from yours truly. Why else would they do it? To appease the great unwashed? I think now.

English legends and metal veteran alumni, Napalm Death, have been added as very special guests for the COB show on October 10th. Anyone that read the TT Report on this year’s HELLFEST will know we only really took note of ND a few months back and a chance to see them, again so soon is very, very welcome.

Also added to the bill are Insomnium and Medeia. All happens in Vicar St. on October 10th.

There DME, there you go. Are you happy now? Is that enough to finally end this? I can’t keep living like this and I can’t be expected to write big long drawn out posts that have little or nothing to do with music. You can’t expect anymore!

(Napalm Death – HURGH!)

New Guns N’ Roses material surfaces?

Posted in Music, New Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on August 18, 2013 by Tickets There

GunsNRosesGOINGDOWNWell would you look at this thing we’re about to tell you. New Guns N’ Roses material – you heard right, NEW. For the first time since 2008, a brand spanking new GN’R leak made it’s way online late last week and managed to stay up for a few days before vanishing under the traditional copyright infringement notice.

Titled ‘Going Down’, the song is a hark back to Illusion era country/blues/rock for the band. Apparently it contains input from Richard Fortus, Ron Thal and Buckethead on guitars while Tommy Stinson takes over main vocal duties with Axl adding harmony in the background.

GNRCopyrightThe song is the first hint of new material since the release of Chinese Democracy and is suspected of coming from one of the two potential Chinese Democracy follow ups that are reported to form a trilogy of records. Well, they already had two Illusions, why not three democracies?

Did you hear the new tune? What did you think?

EVILE Button Factory Show Postponed

601660_497862663615804_1532888025_n

The uber cheap, ultra sweet EVILE show at the Button Factory has been regrettably postponed. The band have had to push out all their up and coming UK and Irish shows. No new date has been announced yet but keep an eye on Dublin Metal Events and Tickets There (I’d go with D.M.E.) for news on the new date. Statement from the band below,

“Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond control we unfortunately have to postpone our upcoming shows in September across the UK & Ireland. We apologise sincerely to everyone who was planning to attend. The shows aren’t being cancelled outright, they will be happening sometime next year so all tickets will still be valid at the same value when the shows have found new dates.

In 14 years of playing shows we have only purposefully cancelled two shows, broken down on the way to four, and missed another two because of delayed flights, which isn’t a bad record for all the years we’ve been playing so postponing these September shows isn’t a decision we’ve made lightly.

When we have new dates for the shows in 2014 we will announce them, as mentioned previously all tickets will still be valid. Again, we apologise for the postponement”.”Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond control we unfortunately have to postpone our upcoming shows in september across the UK & Ireland. Def Leppard Announce ‘Viva Hysteria’ Cinema and DVD Release

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , on August 7, 2013 by Tickets There

DefLeppardDublin

UPDATED AUG 18th 2013: IRISH FANS!!!! VIVA! HYSTERIA is coming to Cineworld Cinema, Parnell Street on September 19th for one showing only. Tickets are on sale now priced €10.50 from their Official Website.

Of course, this was most likely down to the article below. There’s no doubt in my mind that Leppard were so blown away by the academic article about their life and times in Ireland that they realized not showing the film in Ireland was a terrible idea. Either way, I have my tickets booked 😀

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

splashpage_r1_c1Bad news for Irish fans – there won’t be a cinema release for Def Leppard’s new live show film – Viva Hysteria. Even though they recorded Hysteria here (guilt), even though they lived, worked and loved it here (guilt, guilt) and even though Joe Elliott lives a stone’s throw away from where I’m sitting (guilt x3) – the band, who stored their equipment in Dublin, recorded their most recent albums in Dublin, practice before tours in Dublin and have brought almost every major tour they’ve ever played here – they won’t be releasing it in Irish cinemas. Well Holy Elliott, I never thought I’d see such a thing. Even just a few days after I posted a loving tribute to you – you’ve gone and assumed Irish fans won’t be interested in sitting through your performance. Well that’s fine, I’m ok. I’m just disappointed that unlike Metallica, unlike Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, unlike One Direction, The Jonas Brothers and Katy Perry – Leppard are the ones I can’t go and see locally.

DVD /Blu-Ray are out October 21st in Europe. For anyone outside of Ireland visit Defleppard.com for more details about local cinema screenings and so on.

…I still love you Leppard, but you have let me down.

..By the way, everyone should read that in a comically old fashioned guilt implying voice 🙂

Def Leppard In Ireland – A Quick Look (using Google Street View)

leppIre

oldpunchbowl

houseWell maybe it’s Dublin’s fault that Leppard are not releasing Viva Hysteria here… So let’s remind Leppard of our history together. According to DefLeppardUK, the band have played in Ireland a total of 14 times (Tickets There has managed to catch six of those shows) since their first gig on these shores in 1983.

They moved to Ireland in the mid-80’s when recording Hysteria and lived just outside the city centre in a little house pictured on your left. Their local was a lovely bar called The Old Punch Bowl (‘actual real authentic legit’ group photo outside the pub can be seen above) Remember lads – remember the good times. while here, they worked on their classic album – Hysteria.

thefLeppard loved it so much in Ireland, they decided to store their gear here and some of them even bought houses. The suspected venue where that gear was stored can be ever so slightly seen on the right. I’m not giving out details because they might still be keeping things here and I know you lot go mental for stalking. All those times I be blogging stuff and ye go mental – well no more! From now on I’ll drip feed the lot of ye.

2013newsfeb6After a few of the lads moved away (unconfirmed), it was mighty Lepp frontman, Joe Eliott, who kept the DEF torch burning this side of the UK. He has lived in Ireland since the 80’s and darn well loves it here. In fact, he likes it so much he even wanted the Gards to continue policing the area he lives in (again, picture) when they announced the station closures.

Well that’s it for now. Maybe I’ll do a real article some day, but that should be enough to help get public interest started on the 100% official genuine Def Leppard walking tour of Dublin. I leave you with a then and now shot of The Point Depot / The O2. The then photo features Leppard in the 80’s just sitting around – proper Rock (and I feel like some gimp-Perez Hilton type who needs a shower to wash off the words).

Def Leppard to Star in Viva Hysteria! Reality Show

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on July 23, 2013 by Tickets There

realityMany of Def Leppard’s army of fans will remember the disappointment of not being able to attend their residency in Last Vegas earlier this year. Fortunately, Bunim / Murray Productions, AEG and the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Vegas have stepped up to offer fans a chance to get an inside glimpse into the mighty Lepp’s world.

Def Leppard have been announced as the first artists so star in a new hard rock TV series. The multi-episode show will follow the band’s stay in Vegas; on and off the stage and provide a rare opportunity to see the chemistry the band has, that enables them to remain a dominant force in music after more than  35 years together. The show is currently called ‘Living With Def Leppard’, but Tickets There has suggested better titles such as ‘Reality of Vegas’, ‘Love and Las Vegas’, ‘Reality Bites’ and the ultimate – ‘Pour Some Reality on Me’. I’m expecting to hear back from the band momentarily.

No word on when the series will air as of yet but TT will let you know as soon as we do.

On a personal note, I hate reality TV with a venomous passion – but given the nature of this one, I’ll withhold judgement until I see it. Leppard could be risking serious personal humiliation (Ozzy, Metallica), massive drops in wider respect (Ozzy, Metallica) and a long crawl back to their current height if all goes tits up (…Metallica – Ozzy had Sabbath and it worked!). Or, they could be doing something wicked cool (Metallica – A Year and a Half In The Life of… – certainly not Some Kind of Monster). Let’s see how episode one goes, but either way it’ll be nice to see Leppard on the telly more often. Maybe then Joe can make a s*x tape and ‘’’leak’’’ it online and get them into celebrity big brother.

Metallica Release ‘Through The Never’ Trailer

Posted in Music, News with tags , , on July 22, 2013 by Tickets There

1072137_10151504358350264_1649451021_oI won’t lie; Tickets There is excited as hell about the upcoming Metallica film – Through The Never and it’s only a couple of months away. For those who haven’t heard about this yet, Metallica are releasing a live concert film. Being Metallica, it isn’t just a movie though. It’s a live concert, mixed into an actual scripted film and it’s going to be released in 3D IMAX!

The story follows earned boy/roadie – Trip, as her undertakes an urgent mission for Metallica while they’re on stage. However, once outside the arena, Trip faces a ‘surreal adventure’ in a city descending into anarchy.

For the show, Metallica went and recreated many props and stunts from their most famous tours including the electric chair from Ride The Lightening, Lady Justice From …and Justice For All and the stage collapse from the Cunning Stunts shows. All in all, it looks like an epic masterpiece.

Tickets There will let you know as soon as we find somewhere in Ireland that’ll be showing it.

ALICE COOPER SPEAKS THE TRUTH!

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , on July 22, 2013 by Tickets There

alicecooperGood on Alice Cooper – always reliable to be a total legend and a voice of reason in this increasingly watered down world. Last week, Alice came out the quote of the year – “Don’t call [Mumford & Sons] rock ‘n’ roll. That’s an offence to rock ‘n’ roll”.

Alice was reacting to the 1800’s shop keepers being nominated for Billboard’s ‘Rock Song of the Year’ award for their tune, [who cares?]. Alice proceed to elaborate on the comment by suggesting they need get a little meat into their system and perhaps Billboard needs to re-examine their idea of Rock ‘N’ Roll.

”I look at a magazine and it says ‘best new rock band’ and I go, ‘Rock bands don’t have accordions or lutes in them’,”

”I just feel like this whole generation maybe need to all eat a steak,”

“Maybe they just need to quit eating vegetarian food and get out there and get some blood pumping in their system”

Alice Cooper – I love you. Read more at The Sydney Morning Herald. For now, let’s bask in some real R’N’R from Mr. Cooper himself,
