Lluther / Oliver Cole: Dublin Shows This Saturday

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , , , on October 21, 2010 by Tickets There

Decisions, decisions. Two great shows, two different venues all on the same night! What’s a gig goer to do?

This Saturday night sees local hard rock heroes Lluther play Dublin’s newest rock venue, The Gypsy Rose on Aston Quay while up the road at The Workman’s Club, local soulful singer songwriter Oliver Cole and his band, The Leaks will be playing a selection of tracks from his debut solo album, We Albatri and if you’re lucky a few select choices from his previous band Turn’s back catalogue.

Tickets for Lluther are a very modest €5 while Ollie’s are going for €12. Both great deals so the choice is yours. One things that may tip the balance…both venues are practically beside each other (Gypsy Rose may be familiar to some as the former Viper Room bar and nightclub), so why not do both. Leather for Lluther, scarf’s for Ollie and you’re golden!

October 23rd

  • Oliver Cole & The Leaks: The Workman’s Club, Tickets €12
  • Lluther: The Gypsy Rose, Tickets €5

DUFF McKAGAN PLAYS WITH GUNS N’ ROSES IN LONDON

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on October 14, 2010 by Tickets There

Can barely believe it myself folks but original Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan got up on stage with the band tonight to play You Could Be Mine, Lies favourite Nice Boys, Knockin’ On Heavens Door (featuring Duff on Guitar) and Patience (featuring Duff on Tambourine) at the second sold out night in London’s O2 Arena.

Apparently Axl Rose announced “There Was This Guy At The End Of My Hallway Playing All This Loud Music & Shit. Who The Fuck? Oh! It’s Duff!”. So it seems Mr. McKagan was staying at the same hotel as Axl and the two decided on giving their UK fans a little treat.

This is mega for anyone underestimating the significance. It’s the first time since 93 that Duff and Axl have played together live and might signal an end to the bitterness and rivalry at last. No-ones calling for a reunion, but it would be nice if those guys could patch things up. They did great work together and should get along. Fair play to both Axl and Duff tonight and to Tommy and the rest of the guys for standing back and letting the crowd lap it up. Christ I’d give almost anything to have been there!

Duff ain’t the only X-guns to take the stage with the new line-up. Original guitarist Izzy Stradlin played several shows with Guns in 2006.

Set-list with full Duff details (thank-you Blabbermouth)

The Commitments To Tour Ireland in 2011

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , , on October 6, 2010 by Tickets There

***UPDATE – 15:26: Pictures taken this morning of the reunited Commitments Members***
Well, they came and played Liberty Hall this morning as promised, the original Commitments line-up with the exception of Maria Doyle Kennedy. For pictures, check out KDamo

***Original Post***

Well folks, the rumors are true. Legendary (yet semi-fictional) Irish band, The Commitments are set to reunite for four shows next year, marking the twentieth anniversary of the film’s release.

According to Independent.ie the original cast are set to return with the possible exception of Maria Doyle Kennedy (to be confirmed). The confirmed dates are

The Royal Theatre, Castlebar, Co. Mayo on March 14th,
The INEC in Killarney, Co. Kerry on March 15th,
The Odyssey, Belfast on March 17th
The O2, Dublin on March 19th.

Tickets are priced €55.80/€59.80 (£36/£40 in Belfast) and go on sale from Ticketmaster on Friday, October 15th.

The news is currently being launched at Liberty Hall with the cast set to play a small show for press. We’ll add an update as soon as all the facts are in.

We know reuions are a given these days but this is one no-body thought could ever happen but after 20 years of Irish people sitting around constantly calling for one, it appears prayers have been answered and we’ll all finally get to see the saviors’ of soul on a live stage.

Tickets There will be fighting with internet connections and probably a million Irish and international folks to grab tickets for The O2 so…back off, they’re ours 😀 Also, the band will be donating a percentage of each ticket sale to Irish Cancer Society (and no, they haven’t lost their concern for the growing heroine problem, they just want to spread the help around).

For more information about the tour, please check out The Dedicated FaceBook Page which has all the info.

Humanzi Play Final Show?

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, News with tags , , , , , , on October 6, 2010 by Tickets There

Could this be the end of Dublin techno/punk rock masters Humanzi? During their first live performance in well over a year last Saturday, the band announced that it could be their last ever show together.

Lead singer Shaun Mulrooney made the following comment before the band played their final song of the night, Get Your Shit Together.

We don’t know if this is the last song we’ll ever play together or not

Having relocated to Berlin in 2008 to record their second album, the band have been keeping a relatively low profile ever since, despite the album’s release in February this year. Rumors that the band had split up have been circulating for the past few months and despite the inclusion of new material in Saturday’s set, it seems the band are moving on separately.

Tickets There for one is very disappointed by the news and if there’s any hint they’ll stay together, we’ll let ye know! For now, we wish Brian, Colm, Gary and Shaun the very best of luck in the future.

Save The 100 Club

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 4, 2010 by Tickets There

Well folks, yet another historic venue is coming close to biting the dust. London’s world famous 100 Club is on the verge of shutting its doors permanently as greedy landlords up the venues rent unrealistically high (uhm, recession people??).

In response to this, fans and friends of the venue have started a campaign to raise £500,000 which will cover immediate debts and increases as well as provide enough capital to invest in the clubs future and once again secure it’s dominance on the London live scene.

As many of you will know, the club was highly instrumental in the early English punk scene, providing bands like The Sex Pistols and The Clash a venue to play when others were less willing to allow punk hordes crash through their doors. It has also been a cornerstone for Jazz musicians and played host to some of the biggest names in the world including The Rolling Stones, Muse, Louis Armstrong, B.B. King, Oasis, Metallica, The Kinks, Jeff Beck and literally hundreds more.

Check out the campaigns Official Facebook and Website by clicking the links below,

Save The 100 Club Official Site
Save The 100 Club Facebook

It’s time to stop letting these clubs close down. Tickets There remembers London eight years ago when we travelled over for a Sex Pistols show at Crystal Palace and top of the list of places to see was The 100 Club. The excitement of seeing the venue almost exactly as it was 35 years ago when the Pistols and Clash graces it’s stage was a real thrill and we know others out there travel for the very same reason, to see a truly historical site that just so happens to double as a fully functioning live venue to this day.

We’ve never gotten to see a show there and it’s still a dream to go back and see it in it’s full splendor and we don’t want fecking landlords closing it down and letting a Mrs. Selfridge or porn shop move in (just look across the street for proof of what dominates that side of Oxford Street).

We’ll be donating and we hope you do to.

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, News with tags , , , , , , on September 23, 2010 by Tickets There

It’s that time again folks, today is Arthur’s day, one magical day to celebrate the Irish brewing legend Arthur Guinness and his world famous stout.

The hustle and bustle of today will of course be concentrated around St. James Gate and the various other venues participating in Ireland as Diego, Guinness’ French owners put on a show to rival the St. Patrick’s day parade, hiring help from America, England, Wales and if they’re really stuck, Ireland itself but try not to forget the local pubs if you’re out tonight, the ones who sell you sweet, lovely Guinness everyday and need your business now more than ever.

At 17:59 this evening, we’ll be raising our glasses to Arthur McKenna Senior, Arthur McKenna Jr. and off course, Arthur Guinness.
