Early Bird tickets go on sale Friday, Feb 4th from TicketMaster.ie priced €99 until March 6th before moving up to €120 after that. Lots more names and details to come but speaking from experience, the Temple House folks know exactly what they’re doing and this is one Irish festival you don’t want to miss in 2011. MySpace (Sample) Review – Two Door Cinema Club

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, MySpace Review with tags , , , , on January 24, 2011 by Tickets There

We’re scouring the internet, listening to as many major underground bands from 2010 as possible (yes, yes we are aware we’d be better off looking for the next thing rather than the stuff everyone’s already heard – thanks!) and Two Door Cinema Club’s name kept popping up last year. Yesterday, we finally decided to see why exactly they were one of the most searched bands of last year. Unfortunately, we never did get it and any hope of understanding was dashed by the fact that their MySpace player is full of samples. Defiant as we are, we refused to search for another streaming service and have now decided to do a review of the MySpace samples. Why bother? Cause we’re not listening to the other name on our list.

We’ve never seen them live or heard their album. Let the Review Sample begin!

Sample 1Cigarettes In The Theatre: Chongo pop, Silly. Guitars sound good for a moment at the start, lyrics are not our cup of tea.
Sample 2Come Back Home: Sounds better, improvement on the vocals. Generic though.
Sample 3Do You Want It All: Sounds like it would get very annoying, very quickly.
Sample 4 – This is the life: Hmmm…vocals are disappointing again in this snip
Sample 5 – Something Good Can Work: Vocals and lyrics this time. Don’t like the OhOh (we’ve actually heard this before, must have been a single)
Sample 6 –
I Can Talk: This one sounds quite good. Vocals are a better, not annoying and catchy!
FULL SONG –
Undercover Martyn: Eh, not our thing at all. Sounds like Snow Patrol except better (anything without Snow Patrol’s direct involvement is always better). Not too bad, nothing to hate but it’s just too plain.
Sample 7  – What You Know: Same again, but a little better thank Undercover Martyn.
Sample 8 – Eat That Up, It’s Good For You: Sounds avoidable.
Sample 9You Are Not Stubborn: Don’t think they’re for us folks. Lets call it a review.

Remember, to read more badly written yet highly tasteful reviews, just visit tt. This sample has been brought to you by Tickets There in conjunction with The Def Leppard For Jesus Campaign.

MySpace Review – O Emperor

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, MySpace Review with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on January 24, 2011 by Tickets There

That’s right, another one of Ireland’s hotly tipped underground acts we’ve never seen or heard before. What do we actually do with our time you ask? Well, we drink a fair bit (although not that much, only 3 times this month including new years eve), watch a lot of TV, work on our paint city and listen to a lot of Megadeth, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses and read. Not much time left in that hectic, crazy schedule to be going out and just, *tusks / grunt-laugh/shakes head and frowns* listen to music for the hell of it! Anyways, we’re here now and that’s the important thing and we have some good news! We’re liking O Emperor a lot more than we thought we would. Now for ya!

Never seen them, haven’t heard their album.

Don’t Mind Me reminds us of a song you’d hear in one of those eighties New York films with driving or a small bar. Starts nicely and improves with age. For a gentle, serene mood this is your baby. Po is a liverier wee number. Faster, louder but still nice and relaxed (a word that will be repeated in this review). Sedalia is again ‘relaxed’ (real journalists / bloggers manage to use a little thing called vocabulary guys. Just a hint – Ed), nice on the ears and a very pleasant experience. Recommended so far.

The Fat Lady starts the second half of tunes in an even more sombre, quiet and uneventful (not necessarily a negative use of the word uneventful, just not a whole pile of complexity or action in this case) than the previous three. Very deep reaching piece of music that some have no doubt been captivated and transformed by. Tickets There is in quite a chirpy mood today so no depression here. Still quite enjoyable though and it’ll definitely be on our ‘depressed as hell – need reconciliation and / or companionship from non-in the room human’ list. Heisenberg follows much the same suit except it’s a little too over the top on the dull factor. Quite short which we always see a bonus point to songs we don’t like but just too sad. We need a little piece along the lines of Po now.

To The Sea is last and it’s got life! It’s no Springsteen now, leppin’ about the place or anything but it’s got blood in it’s veins and delivered enough of what we were looking for to finish things on a good note. O Emperor, recommended. If you’re having a nice relaxing Monday, then give them a go,. If you’re stressed out, give them a go. If you’re massively under the weather and ‘bad thoughts’ are spiralling out of control in your warped head, then have a listen to Whitesnake. When you’re all happy and better, then give O Emperor a go. O Emperor MySpace

Admiral Black has uploaded a new song entitled Shock Corridors to Souncloud. Well worth a go for any of you looking for some classic rock grounded, psychedelic fun. The band is currently based in Berlin working on material for their début album. For those of you who’ve heard of Humanzi, you may be interested to know that the Admiral himself is ‘former’ (considering they’re as close to broken up as you can get without screaming it out loud) Manzi singer Shaun Mulrooney. MySpace Review – Halves

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, MySpace Review with tags , , , on January 23, 2011 by Tickets There

Still a good few names on the Choice Music short-list we never bothered our arses listening to this year. You take a few months off and all of a sudden the underground is ablaze with names and faces you’ve never heard off. Unfortunately for Tickets There, 90% of the time when we make the effort we’re disappointed. Today’s band now join that 90%, introducing Halves to Tickets There.

Never seen them live, never will either.

Things did not start off well with this one. May Your Enemies Never Find begins like any other ‘play this for your children before they go to bed to really make sure they ain’t getting up again’ style tracks our young, lifeless generation of songwriters indulge in. I’d love to say it massively improves but the echoey, supposedly ‘atmospheric’ vocals, the boring, impotent music and structures remain very placid for the first half. Then out of no where – we get life. It disappears again and low and behold, comes back for a big loud sleek sounding indie ending. Nothing fantastic but better on hindsight. The kind of track that could be used to advertise Eternal Sunshine of A Spotless Mind.

Blood Branches unfortunately doesn’t manage any sort of a turn around. It’s just as boring as it sounds at the beginning right through till the end. I see what the band are aiming for but it’s not hitting home. It’s Sunday, we have headphones on. No distractions or anything but we’re not moved an ounce. Others like it, Tickets There and the majority don’t.

While May Your Enemies Never Find (you?) had the saviour, Blood Branches was short and lacked lyrics, Medals has little to offer. We’re leaving it there folks. Tickets There isn’t meant to do scathing reviews and if we’re going to get back into them, there’s worse out there than Halves. Our final word is simple, this music is boring. Think it’s time the world stopped trying to take itself so seriously and had some fun again with fun people and not be subjected to this moaning, woe is me, life is so miserable and broken hearted ….lalalal. God people. Try to enjoy yourselves.

Now, aren’t we professional?

IRISH NOISE! – The Danger Is (The Danger Is EP REVIEW)

Posted in EP Review, IRISH NOISE!, Music with tags , , , , , , , , on January 21, 2011 by Tickets There

Their second appearance in the Irish Noise series and there’ll be many more. No sweeter sound to Tickets There’s ears these days than the lovely Niamh Danger and her band The Danger Is. Quirky, fun, excellent, sublime, lovely, talented, well played, well written, emotional and just the bees knees in every respect under the sun. We hate them, obviously!

After accidently witnessing their performance at last years Temple House Music Festival we were captivated (in a non-threatening / no need for a restraining order sort of way). The songs are just bliss and even if it’s not your sort of thing, Niamh’s obvious charm will whip you in line. For those of you who came to Tickets There expecting blog after blog of Megadeth, you’ll just have to be patient because The Danger Is EP has only come to our attention quite recently (thanks Nialler9) and we want to talk about how much we’ve been enjoying it.

Rub Who You Love, agh god. If We could spend the rest of our lives in a room listening to this incredibly sexy, passionate voice we would be happy little touts. The song is just flat out fun with enough drive to make it serious, enough silliness to put a smile on your face but most importantly there’s the ‘holy god, this is what I’ve been looking for’ factor. Love it. Next up is All For Gold which we’ve reviewed before when it was the only recording we could find….it’s still awesome.

Same Face is possibly our favourite track of the whole EP. Lovely harmonies, excellent vocal structures, lyrics are clever and the music is so catchy we’d nearly get up and dance (something those of you familiar with us personally will know we never do. For the rest of you……ye know it now). Ah who cares what we have to say about it?? Just go listen and enjoy it!

…awkward moment as we still have to review the last song. Ok, maybe stay another minute. Funnily enough, Awkward is the title of the next track – We swear we didn’t realize that..ahem. Moving on, Awkward is the darkest song on the EP, but it’s still filled with upbeat loveliness,  fantastic vocals and ever changing music that is just rampant in it’s simple excellence. Kind of like Tickets There.com (NO PLUGS…or at least make them funny! – Ed). The end of the verse, before the building bit is our hook here. A good heavy bass the just delivers on call.

The Danger Is EP  is without a doubt the most splendid thing we’ve heard this year and for anyone looking for a ‘One to Watch’, these are the guys. Go listen to it @ The Danger Is EP – Soundcloud After you fall in love with them, go and visit their website – www.thedangeris.com

MySpace Review – Cap Pas Cap

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, MySpace Review with tags , , , on January 21, 2011 by Tickets There

Right, enough excuses and delays. It’s time to get back to Tickets There’s roots rather than fecking editor Rob’s passions. Cap Pas Cap is a band that bored us to tears when we saw them live. Awful stuff, such a dreadfully boring show. Think they supported Jape in Tripod, but don’t quote us on that. As always with Tickets There, its second chance time so we decided Cap Pas Cap needed another looksy. Without basing the sound on performance this time, it’s actually quite ok, for what it is. In theory this shouldn’t be a MySpace review as we have seen them but it’s Friday, stick your rules!

The whole Joy Division revival thing that’s going on is getting a tad stale. Music minus the soul that makes it legendary but guised in layers of ‘this is actually something deep, deep, deep below the surface’. It’s so deep no human ear can’t detect it, that’s why we only have a few hundred part-time fans, cause they’re the ones who get it. Oh, Sex is On Fire, lets dance! What does all that rubbish mean? It means bands are able to pass of sub-standard, repetitive, entertainment lacking / un-heartfelt mush and claim it to be this enormously complex, thronged with diversity despite sounding like it was written in three seconds Here’s the thing though (don’t ya know), it’ll be respected 20 years in the future because this sh*t right here is well before it’s time.

Utter rubbish and it’s our duty (volunteers, not that anyone actually wants us doing this) to wade through all the *BS and find songs/bands that accidently slip up and write something that comes close to enjoyable music. If you’re in the right mood, Mirrors from Cap Pas Cap will help. Imagine being heavily buzzed with a whitey in a Dutch nightclub toilet with heavy trance music blaring in and no water available. If this song came on, you would kill yourself. If you’re perfectly fine and just a bit drunk around 1.30ish in the morning, then Mirrors sums up the ‘in the thick of it now’ feeling you get when the safety net of another hour or two drinking is left but you have reached the point of happy out.

‘In The Thick of it’ done, not yet. The house / pop / electro styling’s of Friends will liven things back up a bit. Can’t imagine watching it live with any great interest but hand this to the DJ and there will be muchos schmoozey posing and trance style mock dance shapes galore in Whelan’s. Not a bad tune but very, very downbeat so if you’re happy out in mid-town, find some KISS. Wait till she dumps you before hitting this needle.

Tickets There out – for now. Check out the Cap Pas Cap MySpace at Cap Pas Cap…..MySpace

Digital Socket Awards Announce 2010 Shortlist

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , on January 14, 2011 by Tickets There

There’s a new award ceremony in town and this time the bloggers are taking control. Goldenplec, Harmlessnoise, Nialler9 and a whole host of Irish blogs have formed together to present the best of the best in Irish music from last year with this prestigious new award that’s being decided by no less than 26 judges.

The categories are filled with the obvious nods with bands like Adebisi Shank, Cathy Davey, A.S.I.W.Y.F.A., The Cast of Cheers and Villagers cashing in on a very successful year but there’s no shortage of other high quality acts that have been arguably passed over undeservingly by other similar award and media honours.

On a personal note, the award organizers have rejected Tickets There’s many petitions to have a special honorary mention of Def Leppard in a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ category and legal action has begun. We hope this does not interfere with the Award presentation ceremony which takes place on February 3rd in the Grand Social. Music on the night will be provided by Groom and Meljoann with two special guests & DJ’s to be announced.

Lluther Announce New Years Eve Dublin Show

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, News with tags , , on December 8, 2010 by Tickets There

Dublin Industrial rockers Lluther have announced they will play a special New Years Eve show in the Gypsy Rose hard rock bar on Aston Quay (the old Viper Rooms venue). While the price and details are still TBC, we at Tickets There are delighted to announce that after hours of feverish research, dangerous complex equations and extreme calculation techniques, the date will be in or around December 31st. Obviously this is a calculated guess rather than a certainty using the basis that New Years Eve by tradition has equalled December 31st in previous years. It sounds so simple when you spell it out like that but the complexity of the task has taken it’s toll on all of us here. Things may never be the same again.

Not too worry, we should be back on our feet when full details have been announced.

IRISH NOISE! – Kowalski (Breaking Tunes Review)

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music with tags , , , , , , on November 25, 2010 by Tickets There

Tickets There is currently in the middle of one of these music review shifts. No longer interested in solely reporting the exploits of our chosen favs or 100% metal, we’ve decided to shift back to indie and see how things are in the world of polite calmness, heavy guitars, geek cloths and neck scarf’s. Turns out, things aren’t too bad, not with Belfast heads, Kowalski hammering their ever so nice and likable Thrillswith-balls sound into our heads all morning.

Their Breaking Tunes may not be overburden with tracks but the three the band has provided are a lovely introduction and sign of their song writing scope. Opening with the dance driven Little House, this is where we pull the Thrills reference from but it’s oddly likable. Very polished and well recorded. nice build throughout and some great changes. Nothing wrong here, moving on.

Seesaw is the one that really grabbed us, the guitars in the song are so un-expectedly full on. You can take the boy out of metal (but you can’t shut the fucker up from writing cheesy ass shitEd). Starts off a little more basic band than Little House and even manages to get a couple of verses and chorus of friendly, ‘lets go for a walk’ niceness before it turns out they’ve been lying! These guys kick ass on this second chorus. Very simple, spacious and mixed with the harmonies make this track a seriously good song.

Final song Sunshine State has a lovely feel to it. Again spacious and the lads pull on that unmentionable Irish band’s grandness in their songs but, if you got to learn from someone, might as well be the ‘best’ ahem. Good chorus, sticks in your head.

Well, that’s Kowalski. TT is happy to say we recommend and for all you gig starved Dublin residents, here’s a treat. They’re playing The Workman’s Club in a few hours for the SquareD Management Launch Party. Tickets are only €5.00

Check them out for yourself @ Breaking Tunes

SQUARED Management – Launch Party (Featuring Alarmist / Kowalski) Tonight @ The Workman’s Club

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, News with tags , , , on November 25, 2010 by Tickets There

There’s a new music management company in town and they’re launching themselves tonight in style with a double performance from Alarmistand Kowalski in the Workman’s Club. Both bands are the first signatures to SquareD Management who are looking for some up and coming Irish talent to lavish their years of experience in the music industry on.

Tickets are a very special, IMF guaranteed deal of the week price of €5.00 on the door.

Tickets There has beeb listening to both bands all week and we can highly recommend this show as a great way to relieve some of this weeks stresses, Be there or be SQUARED (too corny?)

The Walls – Stop The Lights (Album Preview)

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, News with tags , , , , , , on November 24, 2010 by Tickets There

It may not be any great secret, but The Walls are currently Tickets There personal favourite Irish band (oh yes). How did they achieve this mighty honour? By release two albums of great material and lining up a third one which could be their best yet.

Over the past six months, The Walls have been playing shows (three of which we’ve been fortunate to catch), released two album previews (Carrying The Fire / Phantom Power) and music videos for the album’s first single, Bird In A Cage and new song Stop The Lights.

On top of this, they’ve invented a whole new stage show to aid the new albums promotion by making it cost effective for the band to travel far and wide without comprising the music or resorting to the bog standard two lads and guitar. We have DVD’s now and don’t need no Dylan’s!

Anyhow, with the album’s release year getting close, Tickets There thought we’d share the info we have so far with you fine people so you can start creaming yourselves in anticipation just like us….in a non weird way.

What do we know? Well we have the set-list from the bands show at The Sugar Club earlier this month. We’re not saying that the majority of those tracks will be on the final cut but there’s several titles for ye to play with.

Then we have the two previews, Phantom Power and Carrying The Fire which were released on ITunes earlier this month. To hear these, simply visit The Walls Last.FM profile (Click here). Oh, as of Friday Nov. 26th, you can now Download Carrying The Fire – FOR FREE- Click This Link.

And finally, videos. We have two official videos from the band and both can be viewed below. Believe us, this material is well worth seeing and hearing. Both fantastic, lovely songs that will add a little light into this bleak week of financial ruin for the country. One spin of Stop The Lights and problems shall recede.

(Video Trivia Bird In A Cage was shot at the first ever Temple House Festival held in Co. Sligo this year while Stop The Lights was filmed at half time during the Ireland Vs Australia Rules match in Croke Park and features Gavin Fox (of Idelwild / TURN / Concerto for Constantine fame) handling Bass duties while Joe plays keyboards and guitar)

IRISH NOISE! – Alarmist (Bandcamp Review)

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music with tags , , , , on November 19, 2010 by Tickets There

Irish people can’t get enough of the auld instrumental these days. Without name checking a bunch, let’s just say the market is quickly becoming one of the most loved on the underground scene, even beating the Def Leppard Retro Revival Coven Tickets There started well over five years ago. These things are a fad of course while Def Leppard is forever, bow down.

Anyways, since ‘the world’ is pressuring us to continue taking about what’s ‘in’, we thought you might like to hear about Alarmist, an up and coming instrumental band from Dublin. So far we’ve only heard two tunes and already we’re hearing a distinction in their music not duplicated from the others currently making names for themselves. For fans of Chequerboard and The Rednecks, these guys are for you. Well orchestrated music delivered with excitement and excellent playing ability. Not convinced with Giraffe Centre ?(I know, but thinking of quality names is harder these days), then the ending of Vitamin Saturday (really hard) will sell it to ya.

The band aren’t heavy, but they’re also not so devoid of sound that’d you fall asleep buying their album. Very nice from a new crowd and one we’ll be revisiting once they get a few more finalized tracks together. Check them out when they play The Workman’s Club, Thursday November 25th.

…oh, and hop over to their Bandcamp Profile for a spin of le tunes 😉

Enjoy!

INTO-NOISE! Innercity Pirates (MySpace Review)

Posted in INTO-NOISE!, Music with tags , , , , on November 19, 2010 by Tickets There

Innercity Pirates have been the band of choice for Tickets There recently. Still working from the bands MySpace Player (because we’re broke ass bloggers, too shy and lazy to ask for promotional material and even more lazy when it comes time to reply to mails offering stuff). One problem, there’s only four songs up. Curse you MySpace, there should be a four album minimum when a band is this good.

While you were wondering what side of the planet Tickets There fell off, we’ve been busy, busy repeating the same four songs over and over again because we apparently love it when bands mix The Foo Fighters, The Pixies, Silly fun and a little bit o-Punk and stick it all in one place. It works we tells ya.

Seen it All Before, Love’s Over, Locked in This Game and Bang Bang are all fantastic pieces of music. They’re not out competing for Stairway to Heaven’s title or anything but given the choice what we’d prefer to hear at this very moment, these four win hands down. There’s no messing, no nonsense and the talent is more than strong enough to turn these slightly silly compositions and turn them into very decent, guitar driven belters. The vocals can take some adjusting, it took us a while to figure out of lead singer Russell Toomey is pulling the piss or for real but they work so well after a few spins that they become the last thing you’d change. It’s over stretched and its kick ass.

It’s Friday, it’s International-Piss Up night and Tickets There feels (very strongly I might add) that this band right here (see name in articles title) are the ones that’ll make home drinking a lot more fun. Check out their MySpace now and while you’re there, check out their artwork, worth checking out on its own….check out. That’s four in one sentence, beat that!

JAPE ANNOUNCE DUBLIN HEADLINING SHOW

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, News with tags , , , on November 9, 2010 by Tickets There

As the white mist creeps over the black lit swamp, the blurry figure of Jape maestro Richie Egan can at long last be seen emerging, synth clutched tightly. At long last the excellent Jape are blowing of the cobwebs for a full blown tour with Fionn Regan and ASIWYFA(they really should be called ASIWYFA for short. From now on, tell everyone we said it first!). Now the tour we already reported on and we don’t repeat news here (*coughs) so you’re guessing there’s another reason for all this unnecessary gibberish.

Jape have announced a headlining show at Dublin’s Button Factory for December 17th. No word on support, tickets are even a flyer yet but you know TT, we’ll update this post as soon as the details come in. Click here to see
