Heaven & Hell: Iron Maiden Support Cancelled?

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on May 4, 2010 by Tickets There

Seems Mr. Dio still isn’t fully back on his feet yet and unfortunately Heaven & Hell have had to cancel this summers appearances. Ronnie’s recovering so don’t panic, everything’s fine but he just isn’t well enough to head out on the road this summer (understandably).

The Maiden are still stomping their way here on the 30th so all’s well. July 30th, The O2 Dublin – Tickets from Ticketmaster.ie.

IMRO MUSIC BLOG LICENSE

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music, News with tags , , , , on April 30, 2010 by Tickets There

Well, well, well. Look who’s causing trouble in today’s Irish music news world. The IMRO (Irish Music Rights Organization. Music or musician? Ah, who cares) of all people.  Seems they want to start charging music sites that host music or even interviews with bands on their register. Seems the boyo’s have lost the plot altogether and the recession has forced them to compromise their clients future for a few extra penny’s. Sorry, did we say penny’s? They’re looking for something like E150 – E300 + from sites.

Now, Tickets There doesn’t see a threat to us. We’re small, no-one really cares what we write about as long as we mention Whitesnake and truth be told, we’re bored silly writing about music. Much more fun to just listen. Saying that, there’s sites IMRO have already contacted about paying this new License and those sites are extremely helpful for new bands trying to cut a name for themselves.

Surely there’s been enough damage done to the music industry by record company greed, greedy fans illegal downloading frenzy and music quickly turning into a tiny impotent little sack without the bands representatives and trusted care giver introducing a profit driving measure that will more than likely badly hurt their careers and chances of ever breaking out of Carlow?

Now, things may not be as dramatic as that puts it. IMRO are still piecing this new ‘Freedom Isn’t Free‘ license together so the facts ain’t fully clear yet. Nialler9’s done a pretty good job outlining the main FAQ points Here.

Tickets There has lost alot of respect for the IMRO with this move. They’re going to alienate the young, journalistic element, eradicate the foul mouth, obnoxiously badly written blogs like ours (like hell they will 😀 – Ed) and reduce cover and badly needed exposure for this countries young, up and coming talent. Well done IMRO, you’re truly an Irish company now.

I know a girl who once worked in said company and she swears she doesn’t miss a job that involved calling old ladies, who own shops in small villages asking them to pay license fee’s for a radio that keeps them company all day. Little soppy, put on tear jerking and not at all representative of the job…but wouldn’t that one time you’d have to do just be the most fun thing ever. Sorry to bother you mam, IMRO. Let me see your license and Bruce Springsteen collection.

To celebrate, lets get some Sweet Jane up!!

Ash – Dare To Dream (Single Review)

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, News, Single Review with tags , , , , , on April 11, 2010 by Tickets There

Two weeks have passed and as promised, Ash have returned with the second half of their A – Z release. With the Volume 1 singles coming out on two CD’s on the 19th, it’s time for fans to re-focus on the second batch and first single, Dare To Dream seems to be taking things in the right direction.

The song itself is a little drawn out. It’s doesn’t deliver the energetic, rockier side of the groups sound but does stick to the A – Z trademark grandness. It’s constantly develops as you listen but never uncovers any real surprises. Saying that, we prefer it to True Love 1980 (Single A of the series) – so as openers go, this ones ahead.

This series has already given fans more worthwhile material than we could have hoped and with another twelve singles to go, we know they have just as many more quality singles to go. This won’t be a stand out in the long run, but it’s a good sign of things to come.

Iron Maiden / Heaven & Hell: Dublin, O2 Arena July 30th

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on April 9, 2010 by Tickets There

*** Updated – 10/06/2010 ***

Maiden kicked off their Final Frontier World Tour last night in Dallas, Texas. The set, like almost all album tours Maiden have undertaken for the past 10 years is mostly comprised of new material. Off course they have thrown in two tours of just classic material….but they didn’t bring the last one, The Somewhere Back in Time Tour to Ireland and that was the one everyone wanted to see.

Now, like 2006, we’ll be forced to sit through a long set of pretty crappy rehashes of their former glory days in the hopes of being satisfied by the usual 5% cut of their classics. Obviously no-one’s got a gun to heads but come on!

Dallas, Texas – 09/06/2010

01. The Wicker Man (2000 – Brave New World)
02. The Ghost Of The Navigator (2000 – Brave New World)
03. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns (2006 – A Matter of Life and Death)
04. El Dorado (2010 – The Final Frontier)
05. Paschendale (2003 – Dance of Death)
06. The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg (2006 – A Matter of Life and Death)
07. These Colours Don’t Run (2006 – A Matter of Life and Death)
08. Blood Brothers (2000 – Brave New World)
09. Wildest Dreams (2003 – Dance of Death)
10. No More Lies (2003 – Dance of Death)
11. Brave New World (2000 – Brave New World)
12. Fear Of The Dark (1992)
13. Iron Maiden (1980)

Encore:

14. The Number Of the Beast (1982)
15. Hallowed Be Thy Name (1982)
16. Running Free (1980)

*** Updated 10th June 2010***

I just realized I never updated this post after Ronnie James Dio’s passing last month. No replacement support act has been confirmed by MCD, Ticketmaster or Iron Maiden themselves. If anythings announced we’ll post it……although, filling Heaven & Hell’s shoes would be almost beyond impossible but just in case.

*** Updated 4th May 2010***

Unfortunately Ronnie James Dio hasn’t fully recorded yet so all summer appearances by Heaven & Hell have been cancelled. Iron Maiden is still go though.

Tickets There wishes Ronnie a speedy recovery. As a friend just said, ‘Dio can take as long as he likes’ and that’s for damn sure!! Don’t be rushing back too quickly Mr. Dio, we want to see the legend in his purest form.

No Slane 2010

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , on April 3, 2010 by Tickets There

According to Hotpress, this years Slane Festival (or show) has been cancelled as a suitable headliner hasn’t been found.

After numerous reports that Kings of Leon or AC/DC (for the millionth year in a row) were due to take the top spot, it seems Ireland will just have to wait another year for Slane’s 30th anniversary of holding concerts.

Guns N’ Roses For Slane 2010! – April Fools Day, Sorry!

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on April 1, 2010 by Tickets There

Sorry folks, all an April Fools Day joke BUT, keep an eye on TT because we’re 99% sure an Irish date is coming…but it won’t be Slane

Unconfirmed reports have tipped hard rock legends Guns N Roses to take the headlining spot at this year’s Slane Festival.

The band who are already being confirmed to play the Reading and Leed’s Festivals in August last played the venue on their Use Your Illusion World Tour in 1992.

Since late last year, Guns have been steadily trekking their way around the world on their Chinese Democracy World Tour with leg’s in Asia, Canada and South America already completed. It seems the group will spend June – August playing shows in Europe and then possibly move onto North America. The group has been playing a slightly odd set list recently which can be viewed below,

Axl’s Intro (Chinese Democracy melody)
Paradise City
Right Next Door to Hell
If The World
Live and Let Die
Fortus (Richard) Solo
One in A Million
Out Ta Get Me
Locomotive
Sweet Child O Mine
Don’t Cry
Anything Goes
You Ain’t The First

We’ll bring you more news when we have it.

Fight Like Apes – Knucklehead (Lego Video)

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, News with tags , , , on March 30, 2010 by Tickets There

If you read Tickets There regularly, you’ll have noticed a wee series of reviews called ‘MySpace Review’. These are quickly written opinions about bands we’ve never seen live or heard on record.

The very first MPR kicked off with then underground talent, Fight Like Apes and we were not impressed. So unimpressed that the reviews briefly became an outlet for attacks on various bands rather than an aid for their promotion. After some serious soul searching a while back, TT changed format and so did the reviews. Now we’re ready to eat our words about FLA simply because…they’re making more of an effort than most.

Although we haven’t fully warmed up to their music. The bands determination to standout and give fans more value for their buck is something alot more bands could do with checking out. Last year the band preformed two nights in the academy with a full sized wrestling ring and theatrical stage show. Awesome! Now they’ve released one of the coolest video’s we’ve seen from an Irish group. Well worth checking out if you’re a fan or not.
