Posted in General Tickets There Blog, IRISH NOISE!, Music with tags , , , , , , , , on July 20, 2010 by Tickets There

‘Ladies and gentlemen, WE GOT IT!!!’

Tickets There are proud to announce we just tracked down a copy of The Christmas E.P. (it was on CD all along, not vinyl :D). The years of searching are finished – we can now step back and enjoy a healthy social life!

Folks, if you’re ever wondering what record Tickets There wants more than anything in the world, it’s this baby right here…well, up there!

The Christmas EP from Turn. Came out in 2000 and has eluded us for the past eight years. Getting a little tired of searching for this but the struggle still continues. If anyone ever wants to sell the mighty TT a copy or exchange one for Beretta or Beeswax, please don’t be afraid to get in touch – ticketsthere@hotmail.com

Def Leppard – 32 Years and Counting!

Today, July 18th 2010 is the thirty second anniversary of Def Leppard’s first ever show in Westfield School, Mosborough, Sheffield, England.

Tickets There would like to congratulate the Might Lepp on reaching their 32nd year together and also congratulate guitarist Phil Collen who tied the knot the other day. Here’s a video from the bands first EP of a song called Wasted which is one of only two known songs to have been preformed at the Westfield School show.

IMRO MUSIC BLOG LICENSE

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music, News with tags , , , , on April 30, 2010 by Tickets There

Well, well, well. Look who’s causing trouble in today’s Irish music news world. The IMRO (Irish Music Rights Organization. Music or musician? Ah, who cares) of all people.  Seems they want to start charging music sites that host music or even interviews with bands on their register. Seems the boyo’s have lost the plot altogether and the recession has forced them to compromise their clients future for a few extra penny’s. Sorry, did we say penny’s? They’re looking for something like E150 – E300 + from sites.

Now, Tickets There doesn’t see a threat to us. We’re small, no-one really cares what we write about as long as we mention Whitesnake and truth be told, we’re bored silly writing about music. Much more fun to just listen. Saying that, there’s sites IMRO have already contacted about paying this new License and those sites are extremely helpful for new bands trying to cut a name for themselves.

Surely there’s been enough damage done to the music industry by record company greed, greedy fans illegal downloading frenzy and music quickly turning into a tiny impotent little sack without the bands representatives and trusted care giver introducing a profit driving measure that will more than likely badly hurt their careers and chances of ever breaking out of Carlow?

Now, things may not be as dramatic as that puts it. IMRO are still piecing this new ‘Freedom Isn’t Free‘ license together so the facts ain’t fully clear yet. Nialler9’s done a pretty good job outlining the main FAQ points Here.

Tickets There has lost alot of respect for the IMRO with this move. They’re going to alienate the young, journalistic element, eradicate the foul mouth, obnoxiously badly written blogs like ours (like hell they will 😀 – Ed) and reduce cover and badly needed exposure for this countries young, up and coming talent. Well done IMRO, you’re truly an Irish company now.

I know a girl who once worked in said company and she swears she doesn’t miss a job that involved calling old ladies, who own shops in small villages asking them to pay license fee’s for a radio that keeps them company all day. Little soppy, put on tear jerking and not at all representative of the job…but wouldn’t that one time you’d have to do just be the most fun thing ever. Sorry to bother you mam, IMRO. Let me see your license and Bruce Springsteen collection.

To celebrate, lets get some Sweet Jane up!!

The AU Magazine Phone Box Experiment, starring James Hendicott

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, News with tags , , , , on February 25, 2010 by Tickets There

Have an emotional problem? A Music Question? Relationship issues? Or, would you just like to call someone and generally blag about how great things are? Well, AU/State writer, James Hendicott has announced plans to spend ten hours beside a Phone Box this Saturday and take calls from anyone who wants to talk. There’ll be prizes available for the furthest away calls, funniest calls..etc and general chat for everyone else. Full Details can be found below.

Be Sure to check James Facebook Event Page and sign up by Clicking Here.

Phone Box Number: 018304049
Date: Saturday, 27th February
Hours: 09:00 – 19:00

Follow Updates about the event on Twitter – #phoneboxexperiment

‘On Saturday the 27th of February, I will be spending the entire day, from 9am to 7pm, sitting next to a phone box in North Dublin and answering the calls of anyone who happens to want to get in touch. THE NUMBER IS 018304049. If you’re outside Ireland, you’ll need to add the international code +353. Call me!

WHAT/ WHY? This is a slightly silly bit of experimental journalism for AU Magazine, and a follow up to an article I had published last month about a guy who did the same thing in a phone box in Spain for ten days. I will post the story below, for those who are interested. Why are we following it up? We thought it would be funny. We think we can make a story out of your imaginative phone calls, and we don’t mind testing our endurance when it comes to standing in the rain. If you know me, this is the perfect excuse to catch up, or to make fun. If you don’t, we’ll be giving our prizes for the funniest calls (I’ll tell you what they are, but only on the phone on Saturday), as well as for the person who calls from furthest away (or can convince me that they’re in Mongolia) and for anyone who can find the phone box, especially if they bring me beer (clue: contrary to the article, I wont be in Phoenix Park. The only working phone box in the entire park was right next to a kids play park. I don’t want to be accused of pedophilia. The location is far more urban).

Sunday Night Music Movie Favorites.

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music with tags , , , , , , on February 7, 2010 by Tickets There

Half the time, Tickets There is too lazy to write. The other half, we struggle through hordes of rubbish bands to chip out the few amazing ones that deserve all the attention and praise we can pile on them Then there’s days like today when we do all the toiling and checking and searching and can’t find a single band or decent piece of news worth writing about.

Instead of a review, we decided to post a few video’s of bands from music films / documentaries we spent the day watching. Hope you’re all well this lovely Sunday evening and hope you enjoy these (these songs you’ve heard a million times before)

Howdy folks,

In November 2007, Tickets There was started as a laugh after watching the EyeBrowy Tout Spaced skit. Over the last two years things haven’t changed a whole pile except we’re swearing less and people are reading more. We’ve had a great laugh doing it and we’ve discovered loads of fantastic music which, at the end of the day is the whole point behind this blog. We don’t make money from TT and we don’t want to. We’re not in this for anything other than to find good bands and give them as much exposure as we can.

Today, Tickets There finally has its perfect home and we’re proud to announce that our new address is

www.ticketsthere.com.

Since it cost a kingly sum of over $14 to get this up and running, you can be sure Tickets There will be working overtime to make this a decent blog for you to read, for us to enjoy and most importantly, to give the bands we like a respectable source of feedback. Tickets There aren’t critics, we’re music fans.

Thanks alot for making all this worthwhile and I can promise you this is the last nicey nice post you’ll be seeing on this site for awhile. Now, on with the show!!

Kindest Regards,
Tickets There! (Broke N Bloggin / Irish Noise!)
