Tickets There would like to wish The Riptide Movement and The Fallen Drakes on landing support slots for Bon Jovi’s two RDS shows in June. The Rip’s will be support the Jov on June 29th and The Drakes will be taking the stage with Bonny on the 30th.
Both bands are former Tickets There MySpace Review subjects and we like to think that it’s fully thanks to us that both bands have managed to carve an incredible reputation on the Irish music scene over the last year. If it wasn’t for TT the whole world would fall apart and this proves it.
If you’re one of those folks that comes here for the so called ‘facts’, then in reality both bands are getting ahead because of their powerful performances and excellent music. We wish them luck in this excellent opportunity to show up the stylings of former Ally Mc Beal cast members and Def Leppard rip-off artists with their incredible energy and talent. Hopefully the thousands of natives in attendance will take note that you don’t have to look across an ocean for decent tuneage.
Def Leppard has released the track listing for their first ever live album which is due out in June (or May, depending on where you live). Titled Mirrorball, the album is coming as 2 CD’s showcasing Leppard’s long and illustrious career as kings of Arena Rock both in Europe and the States. There’s also a DVD with on and off stage footage ‘AND’ three brand spanking new tracks from their next studio album which is currently due out next year (it’s Leppard, only God knows when their new albums surface).
Lead singer Joe Elliott took to the airwaves this morning to introduce the first of those new songs to the public masses. The track is titled ‘Undefeated’ and forgoing the feeling of over reaching in the songs composition; it’s not a bad wee number. The band has brought the riffs back and there’s a bit of lead here and there, but Tickets There doesn’t believe it’s lived up to it’s “Queen-type vocal thing” that Joe promised us. It’s definitely a continued step in the right direction after the band returned to their heavier sound on Songs From The Sparkle Lounge but still lacking that deadly lick that made earlier Leppard so passionate and fun. The vocals are also a little more stripped back for a Leppard song which will disappoint some fans (us) who were hoping Joe would bring that raw energy he displayed on the Down ‘N’ Outz record over to Leppard.
On saying all that, the song has its moments and it kicks the shit out of Nine Lives (fecking Country and western, come on lads! You’re not f**king Bon Jovi!). It’ll make a welcome addition to the bands set-list this summer and if the other two tracks match it then we have an exciting new Leppard release on our hands. Below is the track listing for the live album.
Disc 1: 01. Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) 02. Rocket 03. Animal 04. C’Mon C’Mon 05. Make Love Like A Man 06. Too Late For Love 07. Foolin’ 08. Nine Lives 09. Love Bites 10. Rock On
Disc 2: 01. Two Steps Behind 02. Bringin’ On The Heartbreak 03. Switch 625 04. Hysteria 05. Armageddon It 06. Photograph 07. Pour Some Sugar On Me 08. Rock Of Ages 09. Let’s Get Rocked 10. Action 11. Bad Actress 12. Undefeated (new studio track) 13. Kings Of The World (new studio track) 14. It’s All About Believin’ (new studio track)
Def Leppard has announced headlining shows in Dublin and Belfast with Alice Cooper and Thin Lizzy coming along as special guests. The gigs are set to take place in Belfast’s Odyssey Arena on June 7th and Dublin’s O2 Arena on June 8th.
Tickets are priced at €59.50 for Dublin and £41.50 for Belfast (+ booking fee all the way) and can be purchased from our dear old chums Ticketmaster.
Def Leppard have confirmed they will be headlining the Download Festival on Friday, June 10th followed by a 18 date US Tour with folk rockers Heart. According to Def Leppard’s official site, more dates (including some non-US) ones will be announced on Monday so stay tuned for more details.
As reported previously on Tickets There, Leppard are still due to release a live album recorded during their 2009 US tour. The album is due out in May and the title has been confirmed as Mirrorball…..we know but hey, soon there’ll be a new studio album and we can forget the title of this. One thing, it will still feature three brand spanking new studio tracks with hints that Leppard have returned to a more hard rock sound. We wait with bated breath.

That’s right, another one of Ireland’s hotly tipped underground acts we’ve never seen or heard before. What do we actually do with our time you ask? Well, we drink a fair bit (although not that much, only 3 times this month including new years eve), watch a lot of TV, work on our paint city and listen to a lot of Megadeth, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses and read. Not much time left in that hectic, crazy schedule to be going out and just, *tusks / grunt-laugh/shakes head and frowns* listen to music for the hell of it! Anyways, we’re here now and that’s the important thing and we have some good news! We’re liking O Emperor a lot more than we thought we would. Now for ya!
Never seen them, haven’t heard their album.
Don’t Mind Me reminds us of a song you’d hear in one of those eighties New York films with driving or a small bar. Starts nicely and improves with age. For a gentle, serene mood this is your baby. Po is a liverier wee number. Faster, louder but still nice and relaxed (a word that will be repeated in this review). Sedalia is again ‘relaxed’ (real journalists / bloggers manage to use a little thing called vocabulary guys. Just a hint – Ed), nice on the ears and a very pleasant experience. Recommended so far.
The Fat Lady starts the second half of tunes in an even more sombre, quiet and uneventful (not necessarily a negative use of the word uneventful, just not a whole pile of complexity or action in this case) than the previous three. Very deep reaching piece of music that some have no doubt been captivated and transformed by. Tickets There is in quite a chirpy mood today so no depression here. Still quite enjoyable though and it’ll definitely be on our ‘depressed as hell – need reconciliation and / or companionship from non-in the room human’ list. Heisenberg follows much the same suit except it’s a little too over the top on the dull factor. Quite short which we always see a bonus point to songs we don’t like but just too sad. We need a little piece along the lines of Po now.
To The Sea is last and it’s got life! It’s no Springsteen now, leppin’ about the place or anything but it’s got blood in it’s veins and delivered enough of what we were looking for to finish things on a good note. O Emperor, recommended. If you’re having a nice relaxing Monday, then give them a go,. If you’re stressed out, give them a go. If you’re massively under the weather and ‘bad thoughts’ are spiralling out of control in your warped head, then have a listen to Whitesnake. When you’re all happy and better, then give O Emperor a go. O Emperor MySpace
We were holding out for more details but it seems everything there is to know about this has been made public by the band now. Its official, Def Leppard are aiming to release their first ever full live album in May this year which will be followed by a US / Canadian tour with Kansas and Heart. There has been no mention of dates outside of the US or Canada as of yet.
The Live record is being taken from the bands 2009 tour which included shows at Dublin’s O2 Arena and a headlining appearance at the Download Festival in the U.K (although there is still no confirmation what shows the live record will be comprised from). Lead singer Joe Elliott and bass player Rick Savage are currently in Dublin (no, haven’t seen them yet L) listening through various live recordings from the tour trying to gauge the best possible versions of the tracks to use. We’re presuming producer Ronan McHugh is also involved.
The record is also set to feature four new tracks from the band which are currently being recorded by the different members in different parts of the world. We’ll tell you more as we know it.
Not sure what to make of this one but apparently Def Leppard’s 2011 tour (for the States presumably, official details are still pending) will feature none other than Kansas (Carry on my Wayward Son / Dust In The Wind) and Heart (?? Two folk chick singers) as co-headliners / Special guests.
Several members from Leppard have hinted over the last few months that a tour and possible album/EP release will come out in 2011 and all ‘unconfirmed reports’ aside, this seems to be 100% go and we’re just waiting for dates.
Dashed are Tickets There’s dreams that Whitesnake and the Lepp might make the 2008/9 line-up a permanent tour feature. Ah well, maybe we’ll all become Kansas fans soon, the Americans seem to like them. We’ll bring you more when we have it. I guess it’s time to call Joe Elliott up for a cooling bottle of Down ‘N’ Outz and find out exactly what’s going down.
We finally got some of Def Leppard/ Down ‘N’ Outz singer Joe Elliott’s new beer! Four Down ‘N’ Outz (or Frosty Joe’s…we prefer that name) later, we’ve happily succumbed. There’s a lovely vibe around the drink and a nice kick after the first bottle. 5%, well packaged and tasty, so tasty!
Get yer arses down to The Porterhouse and try a few, Tickets There got 8 to take home….there’s six left 🙂
After hearing a lot about them over the last year, Tickets There finally sat down and gave Steel Panther a spin. It didn’t take long, about 1 minute actually before we fell head over heals in love with them.
They’re possibly the best hair metal band to emerge from the states in Christ knows how long. Death to All But Metal, Community Property and Fat Girl (Thar She Blows) are enough to make us pick up their album later on today and their videos give The Foo Fighters competition.
Community Property has to be the greatest ballad ever written with lines like “You’re the only girl that I like to screw, When I’m not on the road” and “I’ll kiss your mouth, Even after you swallow my load” it’s the classic all bands wish they had the balls to write. Even AC/DC show more restraint in their lyrics!
And before you think it, our love isn’t growing just because they reference Def Leppard and Motley Crue in Death To All But Metal and even show pictures of both bands in the video, we love them because it’s about time someone came out with some kick ass metal that calls Hip Hop and Rap stars Eminem, Dr. Dre, Kanye West and 50 Cent the cocks they are.
Legendary Def Leppard front man, Joe Elliott has taken the ultimate rock star plunge and attached his name, or rather his new bands name to his very own beer.
Brewed, bottled and distributed by The Porterhouse, the Down ‘N’ Outz larger was officially launched last week at the Glasnevin premises by the man himself. While taking a year off from Leppard, Joe found time to record a new album with The Down ‘N’ Outz, which pays homage to the lesser known songs by Mott The Hoople front-man, Ian Hunter as well as other bands connected with MTH.
Tomorrow night (Tuesday, Sept 21st) Joe will be in London at the Covent Garden Porterhouse, playing a show with the full band for the official UK launch. Tickets are on sale now priced £20.
If you’re looking for Tickets There this Friday night, you’ll find us on Nassau Street between 7-Saturday ‘downing’ many a bottle. Best of luck to Joe with the new beer, TT will be doing our part to make sure the supplies stay fresh.
We finally picked up the courage to sit down and listen to Def Leppard lead singer, Joe Elliott’s new side project, The Down ‘N’ Outz. After hearing about this project several months ago, Tickets There has been eyeing it with our usual suspicion having never been massive MTH fans, but after several spins it appears things will have to change as The Down ‘n’ Outz début album, My ReGeneration is a serious piece of work.
The Down ‘N’ Outz, were originally formed for a performance with Mott The Hoople playing exclusively all things Mott. Along with Elliott, the band is comprised of Ronnie Garrity from Raw Glory, and Paul Guerin, Guy Griffin, and Keith Weir from The Quireboys. They generously gave the album free with last months Classic Rock and memories of Joe Perry’s recent solo disaster haunted Tickets There every time we saw the issue on the shelf. We couldn’t bare the thoughts of criticizing our life long hero Elliott and his new project, dedicated to the band he loves most in the world. Fortunately we don’t have to.
My Regeneration displays a fantastic collection of perfectly arranged, razor sharp and thoroughly enjoyable pop / rock out classics exploding with musical passion, energy and talent. The Down ‘N’ Outs sound fantastic together and they’ve given these tunes a good sanding down and varnishing making them exceptionally sleek although not letting them lose their raw, at times gritty blues postures.
Opening with the guitar, piano driven Golden Opportunity, the album bursts to life with a bang before the full on thundering catchy rampage of Storm drives it home, all in the first two tracks. Storm is a classic example of where Elliott and Def Leppard got their dramatic, memorable backing vocal power from. Overnight Angles brings things back a notch with some slicked back guitar heavy vibes before some solo driven chorus work gives the song a shredding character. Career (No Such Thing As Rock ‘N’ Roll) offers the the albums only ballad and it gives a great chance for Joe to display some of the finest vocal work we’ve heard in a long time. Just listen to that power during the chorus and you’ll hear it.
England Rocks from Ian Hunter’s 1977 solo album, Overnight Angles brings things back to a full on blitz of chaotically catchy rock fury. Shouting and Pointing again shows it’s impact on Leppard’s style with a slowed drum beat, rhythmic guitar bursts and a enough solos to call it a day. By Tonight brings more of an American sound in and, if we’re not mistaken there’s a hint of High ‘N’ Dry in the guitars before Who Do You Love brings in some good old fashioned heavy pounding drum, keyboard power into the sound with lashings of catchy guitar rock n roll. Final tracks One More Chance to Run and Good Times end the album in a blaze of fire, gusto and all round English produced, English made seventies rock n roll bravado.
This album is exceptional. Most cover albums aren’t worth spitting on but My ReGeneration is definitely one worth picking up, especially if you haven’t heard MTH before. The Down ‘N’ Outz have done an incredible job reworking these tracks and with any luck they’ll carry on the project for a long time to come. Maybe if you visit their Website and ask very nicely, they may consider a few originals further down the line.
Today, July 18th 2010 is the thirty second anniversary of Def Leppard’s first ever show in Westfield School, Mosborough, Sheffield, England.
Tickets There would like to congratulate the Might Lepp on reaching their 32nd year together and also congratulate guitarist Phil Collen who tied the knot the other day. Here’s a video from the bands first EP of a song called Wasted which is one of only two known songs to have been preformed at the Westfield School show.
According to Vivian Campbell and Phil Collen (Viv, when he was discussing future plans with Thin Lizzy and Phil in a recent interview with Music Radar), Def Leppard are planning to release a new ‘raw’ studio album in 2011 in time for a large tour the band is undertaking in the summer.
Vivian mentioned his foray into the Thin Lizzy world will have to take a rest when the Leppard return to the road for a massive tour next summer while Phil confirmed they’re hoping to have the record ready in time for the tour.
“We’re getting some new songs together because we want to release something next year. The plan is to be on the road in 2011, so it’d be nice to get some fresh material out there.”
Leppard’s last album, Songs From The Sparkle Lounge was released to rave reviews in 2008, selling over 50,000 copies in the Unites States in it’s first week. Leppard have always been known for leaving long gaps between albums but it seems the boys are determined to catch the raw, rough n ready sound that made them the megastars that they are. Tickets There will bring you more news as soon as we have it.
Europe’s Leading Def Leppard tribute band, Deft Leppard are coming to Dublin!
On February 19th, they’ll rock the hell out of Eden Quay’s, The Pint – when they cover hits from Leppard iconic catalogue including Pour Some Sugar on me, Rocket, Action, Photograph, Love Bites, RUN RIOT, Too Late For Love and many, many more.
The band also play Belfast’s Empire on Feb 20th.
From personal experience, Tickets There can guarantee you a brilliant night. These guys really have the Leppard style and sound nailed down and since the Real Lepp’s are taking 2010 off, this is the closest you’ll get to the real McCoy any time soon.
Today marks the nineteenth anniversary of the late Steve ‘Steamin’ Clark’s passing. Just one year and two months before Tickets There were introduced to the mighty Def Leppard, they’d lost one of the most iconic, energetic, exciting and talented guitarists of the eighties. Steve was a member of Leppard’s classic line-up and was responsible for co-creating their unique, hard hitting sound that made albums such as High N’ Dry, Pyromania and the amazing Hysteria the classics they are.
Steve was a total legend, plain and simple. His songs were top of their game, his playing was the essence of perfection and he rocked like a mother fucker. One of my true woes in life was never getting a chance to see the man play with the band but his music, like all fallen musicians, is still there and still thrilling millions of the bands fans every day.
Steve was fond of a drink or two and you can be sure that we’ll battle this arctic weather to raise our annual pint to his memory. Below is a video tribute using live clips and Steve’s very own instrumental composition, Switch 625.
You’re missed Steve, I hope they’re treating you well up there. Rest in Peace.
So, it’s decade ending time. All the music publications, webzines, blogs, fans everyone with a computer and the ability to type has a list of their top 5, 10, 20, 50, 1,000, 1,000,000 albums of the last ten years and the great, thoughtful, original minds that drive, create, nurture and bring you Tickets There have finally decided we’ll do one to. Sher if everyone else is, why wouldn’t we? Tickets There never claimed (in the last 30 minutes) to be original or independent so we’ll follow the herd with the list thing. Not really sure what’s the point since we probably only bought 20 albums in the last ten years that were actually released in that time.
Instead of doing the 1 – 50 order, we’re putting them in chronologically. This is a basic, hastily put together history of what shaped the amazing, the incredible, the mind-bendingly stunning tastes held by all at Tickets There HQ.
(Please don’t give me hell for Testament, but that album deserves to be on this list, even though it wasn’t released in the time frame. Damn calendar counter counters!!)
