Review: Behemoth – Live @ The Academy (Dec 11th, 2014)

Posted in Gig Review, Music with tags , , , , , , , , on December 17, 2014 by Tickets There

IMG_0781A cancelled gig is always a bummer which can leave a bad taste in the mouth for years to come. That’s why Behemoth fans in Ireland must tip their hats to all the folks at DME and Behemoth themselves for saving the latter’s long awaited return to Irish shores this week. Awful weather conditions meant ferry cancelations this morning which left Decapitated, Grand Magus and Winterfylleth unable to reach Dublin for tonight’s show. Fortunately, with the help of a little luck and fiscal support – DME were able to get Behemoth to Dublin and fill in the support bill with locals Malthusian and Aeternum Vale. A Christmas miracle, you might say? (smug laugh).

IMG_0768The reduction in support didn’t seem to stop anyone coming tonight. The Academy is rammed from wall to wall and right from the start Behemoth ensure no-one, no matter who they originally came to see, is walking out of this venue tonight disappointed. Right from the start they have our bones trembling from their unrelenting force and stripped back, but no less imposing theatrics. There are bands out there who understand the nature of what live shows should be and go above and beyond to put on the most impressive performance and tonight that’s exactly what the Academy is treated to.

Of course, Behemoth don’t just rely on theatrics to get us going as they deliver an incredible set built from their latest album, The Satanist, as well as classics from their extensive back catalogue. ‘Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel’ opens the show and even spurs the crowd to sing it back, a rare feat for a band playing a song from a new album after twenty years on the road. ‘Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer’ swiftly follows and speeds up the pace as they hammer out incredible songs including ‘Conquer All’, ‘The Satanist’, ‘Christians to the Lions’ and many more before ‘Chant for Eschaton 2000′ closes their main set.

IMG_0774After an exhaustive set, Behemoth dim the lights and return in full black metal attire to deliver one final brooding song – the colossal closing number from The Satanist, ‘O Father O Satan O Sun’. An epic performance and easily one of our highlights of 2014. Hopefully it won’t be another ten years before we see them back in the emerald isle.

1015972_763893830343942_7372709963214024291_oCLUB CARNAGE are holding their annual XMAS party this Friday, Dec 19th, in Fibber MaGees and PSYKOSIS have been announced as headliners. Now, ye all know where TT stands on Psykosis but since they’ve all refused my proposal and surrogate offers, I’m no longer in the business of praising their chiselled good looks, powerful performances or ridiculously savage set of tunes. Nope, you won’t be finding us mentioning any of that ever again.

Chemical Sacrament will be playing support (dying to see them) and it’ll be a good old late one. Doors are at 10 and it’s E5 on the door. Drink promos and all the woks included as usual. This will be a busy night so get in early and enjoy!

Bad weather disrupts Behemoth Line-up tonight – but the show must go on!

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on December 11, 2014 by Tickets There

1979531_10152618966492872_7005054987608214015_n

Sad news for fans of DECAPITATED, GRAND MAGUS and WINTERFYLLETH as they’ve been forced to drop out of tonight’s BEHEMOTH show at The Academy. Because of high winds and general horribleness, ferries have been cancelled and the bands are unable to travel over.

It’s not all bad though, thanks to some huge efforts on DME’s part, BEHEMOTH will be able to play this evening. The black metal titans cannot be stooped by mere Godly weather and will live on to reign unholy hell upon our mortal souls. In other words, they’re going to play a f**king blinder tonight.

Filling in for support tonight will be Malthusian and Aeternum Vale. You can view the fill statement from DME below about tonight’s shows. See ye all there!

Statement from DME (12/12/2014)

10402961_721389241263144_7242146594380982803_nPlease note that due to the horrific weather conditions in the UK and the subsequent cancellation of all ferries, the support bands will be unable to make tonight’s BEHEMOTH! show. However, due to monumental efforts from all involved throughout the evening and night, Behemoth will still play Dublin tonight. Support will now come from Malthusian and Aeternum Vale.

We realise this change will cause some disappointment but hope that you will understand that these are exceptional circumstances and appreciate the massive efforts made to ensure the headline band plays and the fact that that all concerned have gone beyond the call of duty both in terms of effort and finances to make Behemoth’s long awaited return to Ireland still happen.

Doors will still open at 6pm with Aeternum Vale onstage at 7.15pm, Malthusian at 8pm and Behemoth at approx. 9.15pm.

10403112_10152836504737435_3322269395949245669_nChristmas is upon us and Tickets There is imploring everyone to spread a little seasonal metal joy this year.

Never mind picking up crap in faceless stores for friends and loved ones – buy metal! Instead of spending more money than you’re happy to part with on some yoke you hope won’t be rejected outright, buy a Warpath t-shirt. Instead of fretting and running around shops trying to stay hydrated and alive in the queues – order the new Primordial album. Basically – buy metal, support your local scene this Christmas and spread metal joy.

Several local bands have stores and great stock for you to choose from. T-shirts, albums, everything a new metal fan could want. Works even better if you have mates into metal – spend a tenner on a savage gift and you’ve friends for life who can never say you didn’t get them something.

Here’s just a few of the web stores available If you want to add some, simply comment here or mail ticketsthere@hotmai.com. Don’t be afraid to spread the word – #shopLocal666

WIN: Tickets to see SAXON tomorrow night @ The Academy (CLOSED)

1891440_853562978008591_1827805648046328188_oThis competition is now closed.

MCD have been extremely generous this week and have showered us with free tickets to give away and it ain’t over yet. Tomorrow night the legendary SAXON play The Academy and we want to send one lucky winner and a friend off to see them. If you’d like to be that person then please send us your name, phone number and the answer to this question to ticketsthere@hotmail.com.

  • Before they rose to be one of the shining lights of heavy metal, Saxon used to go by a less radio friendly name. What was it?

The show is on tomorrow night so this competition will close at 2pm GMT tomorrow, Friday Dec 5th. Entrants must be over 18. Nice messages will always win you favour – it’s nice to be nice.

WIN: Tickets to see The Doors Alive tomorrow night (Closed)

10384212_10152163401498803_1537074215127714889_nThis competition is now closed

Another competition you say? Oh go on then. This is one you’ll have to be quick on as The Doors Alive (or as we call them – the world’s greatest Doors tribute band) are playing one of their special midnight shows at The Academy tomorrow night (Dec 5th) and thanks to MCD we have a chance to send you and a friend to see them work their magic.

To enter, simply email your name, phone number and the answer to the following question to ticketsthere@hotmail.com

  • In Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, Axl Rose made an appearance as a DJ/former lead singer of a fictional 1980’s rock band that took it’s name from a Doors song. What was that song? (*hint, it’s on their debut album)
    • If that question is too difficult – or you don’t play Grand Theft Auto (for some reason) then simply send on the name of your favourite Door’s song. See, we’re nice people 🙂

Competition closes at noon tomorrow. Entrants must be over 18. Winner will be contacted by tomorrow afternoon.

And folks, even if you don’t win I can only advise you to go and see these guys. Forget your perception of tribute acts or any of that. These guys are the real deal and before you know it you’ll think you’re sitting in the Hollywood Bowl watching the real thing. An excellent, excellent band.

Papa Roach announce Dublin show – tickets on sale now

Posted in Music on November 28, 2014 by Tickets There

untitledSlipknot, Korn and now Papa Roach. Right now there’s a multitude of twenty something people going out of their minds with excitement as late 90’s / early noughties nostalgia and dreams come through.

We all remember MTV2 and Kerrang TV when Papa Roach burst out with ‘Last Resort’ from their massive selling second album, Infest. The band continued a successful run into the early 2000’s with their third album Lovehatetragedy and it’s successful first single, ‘She Loves me not’. Since those early years, Papa Roach have publicly worked on the more serious side of their characters which has shown its fruits in their recent releases.

Now the band are preparing for the release of their eighth studio album, F.E.A.R. next January and they’ve announced a show at Dublin’s Academy on March 20th, 2015 as part of their world tour. Tickets are on sale now priced €27.50 and doors will be at 7pm (Early Show).

Nuclear Assault, Gama Bomb and more to play Dublin

1973880_731919550210113_5840909587382321700_oI read this last night and my hands have just now stopped shaking enough for me to post it. DME have confirmed that Nuclear Assault are coming to Dublin in 2015 and (get ready thrash fans) they’re going to be supported by Gama Bomb, Psykosis and Animator Seriously!

All four of these bands will be playing together on one incredible night at the Voodoo Lounge on July 19th as part of Nuclear Assault’s Final Assault on Europe tour. No ticket details have been released yet but who the hell cares how much it costs? It’s happening and there’s no two ways about it. Not only Animator and Psykosis, not only Gama Bomb – but freakin’ Nuclear Assault as well! What are you even supposed to do with that?

Anyways, expect a messy Tickets There, a lot of beers, denim battle vests and savagery. If time allows, there may even be some tunes.
