Review: Marilyn Manson – The Pale Emperor

Pale-EmperorYou can call him Self-righteous, egotistical, a genius or just absolutely terrifying. Whatever your view, Marilyn Manson has captured several generations’ attention since he sneered his way into popular culture almost twenty years ago. While music has always had its fair share of villains over the years, few have ever inspired such fear and hate in parents, bible bashers and politicians as the self-proclaimed “God of Fuck”. It wasn’t just Manson’s make-up clad, cross-dressing, bible tearing performances that caused so much outrage – although that made for an easy target for society’s great heard to mock at. Instead it was Manson’s disturbing insights, commentary and criticism of the hypocritical ‘norms’ in society that made him public enemy number 1 for many years. From his first album, Manson had sunk his teeth into those around us who preach one way of life and live another and he has never let go.

antichrist_eraAfter Portrait of American Family, Manson offered an almost biographical commentary on his follow up albums. Building on the early success of Portrait and an ever growing following, Manson went straight for society’s jugular – religion. Antichrist Superstar was a chance for Manson to express his blind rage at religious zealots, jock/beautiful culture and showcase the seedy underbelly and false prophesying and smiles of the world. This was quickly followed with a similarly unsettling insight into the lonely isolation , highs and lows lifestyle associated with fame on Mechanical Animals. The album was a perfect mix of style, pop and bleak emptiness – not in terms of content, but in its message. It’s singles further launched Manson and made him a household name. Its release also brought Manson up to his highest level of infamy – so much so that less than a year after its release, he became the focal point of blame for the Columbine High School massacre.

maxresdefaultFor many months Manson suffered the full wrath of America’s guardians of the peace and all things ‘normal’. His career was stalled and his fans attacked simply for the way they dressed and music they liked. It wasn’t until Manson appeared in Michael Moore’s film, Bowling for Columbine in 2002 and spoke with such sense and undeniable truth about that massacre that society finally accepted defeat and moved on from trying to sacrifice Manson to the lord. His simple comment that the people of Columbine had failed the kids and had failed to hear their problems was a summary of everything Manson had spoken about through his music for the preceding years.

EatMeDrinkeMeAfter Columbine, Manson was both famous and infamous. His next album, Holy Wood capitalized on his reputation and brought him more fame and fans than ever before with anthems such as ‘The Fight Song’ and ‘The Nobodies’ reaching brand new audiences. Unfortunately, some of the raw anger started to disappear and it wasn’t until 2007, when Manson and his wife, Dita von Teese, broke up that we once again heard something that seemed truly from the heart.

Eat Me, Drink Me is not technically a release by the band, but more of a solo album Manson wrote/recorded and produced with Tim Sköld which saw the singer return from semi-retirement. For the first time in several years we got to hear a god’s honest album from Manson’s heart. There was no attempted ‘Beautiful People’ / ‘Rock is Dead’ style anthems. Just straight forward honesty with Manson’s usual unique take on life. Since then, Manson has released two further albums and while both held some promise, they delivered little more than the singer’s own effort in gaining ground with the emo fans who had come of age to the less frightening, style over substance groups like… well, I won’t badmouth any bands here. Onwards!

2015 will now be entered as one of those massively important chapters in Manson’s career. After years of reported drink and drug problems, almost scandal-less obscurity, line-up changes and presented with a very different, far less aggressive world than his sound had originally found a home in – Manson has changed styles, modernized and heralded his return with an absolute classic of an album..

JJjvJtb3_400x400The Pale Emperor is without a doubt the most exciting record MM has released as a group since Mechanical Animals. They have recaptured everything that made their music great on those early records, while still managing to overhaul their style and delivery. It’s still undeniably them, but they have modernized successfully, giving their songs a more relevant and fresh platform from which they can dispense the much loved cynical truths fans have wanted to hear again. Like Eat Me, Drink Me – there are no attempts and peddling out major anthems or angry for the sale of it former glory re-hashes. Instead, you have an extremely melodic, atmospheric and enjoyable collection of songs that will fulfil every hope fans could have for a new album – and more.

Marilyn Manson may never again relive the infamy of his earlier years, but his despise for ‘society’ is unabated. While many of his fans will love this record, the ones who really need to hear and understand his message will hardly blink an eyelid and carry on with their torches and pitchforks to demonize the next person who tries to act improper. Let’s just hope Manson continues to keep them in check.

Download 2015: Day 1 and 2 confirmed. 3rd leaked?

Well festival season is off to an early start this year. Yesterday the mighty Hellfest released info on over 120 bands that are set to perform at next year’s event and this week Download have been teasing out the first two days of next year’s event with the third and final day set to be confirmed tomorrow, Nov. 19th.

So far, Download have confirmed Slipknot, Judas Priest, Five Finger Death Punch and Black Stone Cherry will be the major names for Day one of the festival (June 12th 2015) followed by MUSE, Faith No More, A Day to Remember and Marilyn Manson on Saturday the 13th of June.

In a TBC post, it seems Gene Simmons, legendary bassist and singer with KISS, Gene Simmons, may have ‘accidently’ leaked the Day 03 line-up. According to his pretty genuine looking poster, the bands set to appear are KISS themselves, Motley Crue, Slash and Enter Shikari. However this hasn’t been confirmed and all will be revealed tomorrow morning at 08:00 am so stay tuned to the official website.

Over a hundred or so more bands will be announced over the coming months. Basic weekend tickets (3 nights camping) will set you back about £205. Check Ticketmaster for more options and prices. They go on sale this Thursday, Nov. 20th.

HELLFEST 2015 LINE-UP ANNOUNCED

Headlining the event will be Slipknot, Scorpions and Faith No More. with Judas Priest, ZZ Top, Slash, Motorhead, Alice Copper, Marilyn Manson, Venom, Cannibal Corpse, Anthrax, Exodus, Mayhem and many, many more also on the  bill. This is the major portion of the festival with 30 more additions expected over the next few months.

HELLFEST X announcement in SIX days

The tenth instalment of everyone’s favourite heavy metal festival is set to be announced in six days time. Fans (me) have been panicked that this year’s usual September announcement had been delayed but organizers have now confirmed they will not announce a small portion of the bill this side of Christmas, but instead will announce the entire program for HELLFEST X.

Last year Hellfest IX displayed one of the greatest line-ups in heavy metal history so there’s a lot to live up to. Rumours on possible bands have been circulating since this years festival ended and they’ve only gotten more intense with announcements that Metallica, KISS, AC/DC, Slipknot, Judas Priest, Marilyn Manson, Motley Crue, Def Leppard and many, many more are all touring Europe this summer.Who will land on the mighty Hellfest bill? Keep your eyes peeled to Hellfest.fr next Monday for the official unveiling.

..or you could be lazy and just wait for us to tell you. I mean, it’s not like the official Hellfest page needs to the views to keep them in business. Yes, watch Tickets There and nothing else. Top 10 Halloween Songs: Tickets There Vs Billboard.com

Billboard.com have a list of their Top 10 Halloween songs and we’re after tripping across it (through tireless searching on Google of course…..ok, so I typed Halloween Songs and it was result number 1 or 2 or something. Well, I didn’t see you clicking it!). The list isn’t bad, has the videos etc. Included, but they’re not very terrifying are they? I mean, no-body gets scared when they hear ‘Don’t Fear the Reaper’ by Blue Oyster Cult or ‘Highway To Hell’by AC/DC. No, they rock out and we feel a Halloween hits list has got to scare the living sh*t out of you. So nappies in hand, let’s see if old Tickets There (with our charming manners, sexy good looks and desperate need for nicotine) can do better.

10: Halloween Theme Song’ John CarpenterWell where else would you start? The soundtrack to 1978’s Halloween still remains on the of the atmospheric and intimidating ever released. The opening notes immediately remind you of good old Michal Myers and his personal demons and family issues. Of course, there was no Frasier Crane in 1978, these days everything would be worked out on the couch.

9:  ‘I Love The Dead’Alice Cooper – Alice Cooper is Halloween for music. The original shock rocker spooked more minds than …. SATAN! Alice is your nightmare and all the things that are dark, eerie and sinister. He is the bogey man so trick or treaters be good or  Alice is stealing all your candy.

8: ‘Feed My Frankenstein’  Alice Cooper – You didn’t think there’d only be one Alice in my list? did you? Didn’t I just get through saying that Alice is all things sinister and evil…etc,etc? Well anyway – TT has decided to pass up Talking Heads ‘Psycho Killer’ and the theme songs from Exorcist and Psycho to include this so you best listen and listen good.

7: ‘I Put A Spell on You’ Screamin Jay Hawkins – Need a good witchy number for Halloween – look no further. Except, we’re not including Screamin’ Jay (no offense), but we find Bette Midler’s version from Hocus Pocus much more appropriate.

6: ‘Bark At The Moon’ OzzY – A little panic, a little thrill – Bark At The Moon is a savage Ozzy tune from a mediocre album. Diary of a Madman and Blizzard of Ozz really cemented the mans reputation, but no-one can take away from this tune. Creeeeeeppppyyy.

5: ‘Ghostbusters’ Ray Parker Jr. We’ll admit, Billboard had this one right. No Halloween would be complete without an airing of Ray parker’s iconic Ghostbusters tune. Along with Bull Murray’s comedy, Dan Aykroyd’s stumbling, loveable silliness, Harold Ramis’ staunch strictness and Ernie Hudson’s total disbelief at the crap he landed himself in – Ray’s song turned Ghostbusters into the most loveable ghost film of all time. On that note, Ghostbusters 1 & II have just been added to this week’s viewing list.

4: ‘This Is Halloween’ Marilyn Manson – Manson is in by the skin of his good graces. While the original is far more fitting as it embraces silliness and fun, creepiness and ghoulishness – it must be said that Manson did a good job, so why not try something new…ish?

3: ‘Black Sabbath’ Black Sabbath Slayer’s ‘Reign In Blood’ was just replaced by this choice. Easily the most terrifying, dark heavy metal song ever recorded by man. All hail the mighty Sabbath and keep an eye on the blog over the next few minutes for something else Sabbath related.

2: ‘Thriller’ Michael Jackson – Obvious? Maybe, but it just has to be there – and it’s still amazing.

1: ‘The Monster Mash’ Bobby Boris Pickett – The greatest Halloween song of all time. What more can be said?

Review: Adler – Good To Be Bad (Single)

Two songs in and things are still on the up and up. With the surprising awesomeness of their debut single, ‘One That You Hated’, it seems ADLER are not destined to be a one hit wonder. Their new song, ‘Good To Be Bad’ is heavier, crunchier and still retains that pounding sing along swagger that caught our attention last time. This time they’ve brought in the distinctive John 5 (Marilyn Manson / Rob Zombie) to add a little electro-horror flavour into the guitars.

Although Steven Adler is one of the infamous founding members of Guns N’ Roses, listeners may not be confronted with the sound they’re expecting. Rather than re-hash the classic LA hair metal style that 25 years ago made Guns the most famous band in the world, ADLER have chosen a more contemporary sound and just carry over the style of song (yup, that means solos, catchy chorus and a sprinkle of sleaze – no NU-METAL).

KISS Announced As Sonisphere 2012 UK Headliners

You wanted the best!!!! KISS are coming to Europe in 2012 as Tickets There predicted. The band have been announced as one of the headliners for this year’s Sonisphere UK festival joining other acts Queen, Faith No More, Marilyn Manson, Incubus, Mastodon, Andrew WK and so on. They will headline the main stage, Friday July 6th. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Thursday Feb 23rd @ 09:00am sharp.

The band are set to release their new album, ‘MONSTER’ in June and follow it with a lengthy headlining tour around the world with the European arena / festival dates expected to happen next summer. This will be KISS’s twentieth studio album and will follow 2009’s massively successful ‘Sonic Boom’.

Unfortunately for fans, Sonisphere UK will be their only European appearance this year. KISS last played Europe in 2010 on their ‘Sonic Boom Over Europe’ tour, performing 35 shows in 18 countries. In total, their next tour is expected to last almost two years. Tickets There would like to take this opportunity to bow down to KISS, declare our unworthiness and hail them as the Gods they are. Yet another rumor floating around the new today is the possibility of Marilyn Manson (The God of F**k) playing Ireland this year.

Well your friend Tickets There has checked it out and it seems the shock rock jock himself has announced a few dates in the UK around Christmas time but there is no official word from MCD, Ticket Master, Aiken promotions, the official MM .com website or Hotpress about an Irish date.

I’ll keep you informed if I hear otherwise.

What happened folks? In the mid 50’s, Mr. Elvis A. Presley walked into Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee and became the very first, the best, the symbol, legend, embodiment and icon of rock n roll. Like Sid Vicious to Punk, Frank Sinatra to big band, Johnny Cash to country and western or even Dana to lunatics, Elvis was the total hero, founder and creator of rock n roll. Don’t listen to music nerds, geeks and critics (ahem), Elvis started everything. Forget who influenced him, forget who wrote for him and forget who marketed him, Elvis was it.

Ever since the Kings death, music has flourished through the efforts, talents and hard work, creativity of various people and constant changes in popular culture. From Elvis, Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis in the fifties, rock expanded and produced the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and many others throughout the early sixties. Before long Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, The Yardbirds, Jimi Hendrix, Cream and many more appeared. The Doors came out of the west coast. The Who went rock, Led Zeppelin were formed and Jefferson Airplane stayed touring after Woodstock. Just before things could get civilized, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple came out. Queen, Clapton, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Stooges, Alice Cooper, T-Rex, KISS,…the list is endless people. Then came the 80’s, when pop reached a true peak before the ever looming wave of commercialism took it’s firm grip and strangled the genre, until it’s credibility was lower than Gary Glitters. On the other hand you had Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Guns N Roses, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, U2, Judas Priest, OZZY, Slayer, Sepultura, before the end of the decade when Nirvana, The Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Blur, Oasis, The Stone Roses, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Smiths, The Pixies, Joy Division, The Happy Mondays, New Order (yes the 24 lot), Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails and then (phew this is a long one) onto Marilyn Manson, The Foo Fighters, Weezer, Korn and so on before the late nineties and boom…nothing happened……funnily enough, fuck all has happened since. How in the hell did almost five decades of amazing, astonishing and diverse creation suddenly grind to an almost complete stop?

Things seemed to fall completely off course. Metal bands suddenly merged rapidly with dance music and rap. Korn had dabbled but so did Aersomith and nothing happened to them. Instead of Angus Young and the D belting out solid, hard hitting blues rock anthems you had fat ugly guys in costumes roaring at you about being bullied and still being virgins living in their mothers houses. Metro sexual, stylish geeks whining on about falling and crying about some girl next door that Lemmy would probably kidnap and turn into a hooker on sun-set before the night’s out. These guys in fitted suits, wearing ties with spiky hair, tattoos and dog collars were mixing Kraftwork with the eighties glam rockers like Twisted Sister, Poison and the likes while wearing their hair like girls. And I don’t mean the old style of hairy bikers drooling over a bar counter girly style, I mean a female hairdresser on a night out style. Like they were trying to keep disobeying the nagging disapproval from generations past and pushing things to some ridiculous limit that nearly goes full circle.

As for Pop music, that fell into the hands of TV companies, dance got old and turned into some demented, hindered state of destruction while indie music became overwhelmed by a horde of Eco-Friendly, Voices of poverty, injustice, animal cruelty and environmentally conscious millennium hippies. Voices that turned away from Indies recreational drug use, love and loss, party image and transformed it into a voice for all the issues in the world rock stars shouldn’t give two shits about, at least not on stage. The likes of Tom Yorke, Chris Martin, Bono, Snow Patrol, Kings of Leon, Kasabian and all that other horse shit. Their songs were so impotent, corpses of tax attorneys could laugh at them. Complaining, moaning and whining about the poverty and cruelty in the world they wouldn’t think of donating their profits to. Bands that appeal to societies total dregs. Bored children, housewife’s, grandparents, indie fans, jocks and just about every member of the heard the western world boasts. Droning brought to extremes of the human soul to a point it becomes so bogged down in ego, insincerity and boredom it would fail to shock a timid kitten.

Metal fell even more of the pits as the old genres piled up with hopeless hack impersonators before bursting at the seems into millions of decaying breakaways. Nu-Metal even buckled (not a bad thing, pile of shite aswell) as Emo broke through their last stand along with nu-punk and metal became even more appealing to the ugly, fat rejects of social society and the fashionable, jock culture more than ever before. After Radiohead’s Creep on the jukebox American Idiot and the Killers would follow and all the trendy’s and Goths alike would bop along. Metal was again infiltrated by main stream culture and unlike before the last ‘icons’ weren’t strong enough to tear it right back for the people of society who used the music as it should be used. Not for pusses crying and ugly nerds to find shelter. Metal is the music for the angry soul (sounds gay I know but hey, I am smoking in case you hadn’t noticed), the serious partiers, the ‘dangerous’ people of society.

Rock N roll lost it’s fight much earlier. After the Guns N Roses era came to a close, few rock bands ever managed to reach those heights again. Don’t even bother with the Killers and The Kings of Leon…or The Strokes bitch. I’m talking about real fucking n roll. The kind of rock n roll that made all the bad things bands these days demonize like drinking, sex, destruction, rebellion and a good hearty message of Fuck You to anyone who bothered them, fun!. Elvis shock things up, the Stones defined it, Aerosmith brought it miles higher while AC/DC put the fucking boots on before Guns N Roses perfected it in every single sense of the word.

The world is losing it’s icons. Right now I can’t think of any that have come out since the early nineties. I mean a true icon of rebellion. Pete Doherty, and Amy Winehouse make a mockery of drug addicted musicians which, throughout the history of music, have written some of the most amazing music ever created. The Beatles, Jim Morrison, The Grateful Dead, Hendrix, Keith Richards, Janis Joplin, Kobain etc. Bono, Yorke and Martin take the places of people like Neil Young with his stories, Springsteen and his zest for life and Bowies ever changing persona, image and style only to replace it with gilt tripping, giver of life wannabe humanitarian ideologist façade while they doge taxes and pontificate to fans what they should do, wear, believe in, live and breath. Forget ‘think for yourself’, the message was spelled out in bold impact lettering and strangely enough, a  discontented mass fell for it, hook line and sinker.

That’s pretty much where we are in my eyes. I’ve forgotten many of the previous generation’s true greats but there’s only so much you can write in an hour and keep semi-coherent. I’ve also neglected some of the better talents to emerge on the international scene and some of the worse ones. Arcade Fire and MGMT to name a couple. But that’s how I see things, pretty much that black and white. Most of the old styles got confused, disjointed, lost in translation and overwhelmed in image, style and forced restrictions and beliefs and turned them into uninspired shells of their former selves. I’m not saying charity is bad, I’m not saying there’s no credibility in any of the new bands these days and I’m not saying looking after the environment is wrong, animals should be mistreated, people shouldn’t be nice to each other and drugs are good. I believe the exact opposite of each one and a conscious attitude is essential to the basic fabrication of mankind’s cohabitation together and civilized society. What I’m saying is people should learn this from other sources like parents and a proper education rather than one of mankind’s forms of entertainment. Aren’t we allowed to relax, switch totally off and dream sometimes with the horrors of some societies and the worlds problems being shoved in our face at every fucking turn?

Maybe there was one message spelt out by one of the golden age icons that we should listen to is the words of Jim Morrison.

“When the music’s over, turn out the lights, turn out the lights,”

‘Forbidden in Heaven, useless in Hell’

Anyone who knows me has a pretty good idea that I hold Def Leppard up high as the greatest rock band of all time (well, my personal favorite) but few know that I attribute Marilyn Manson as being directly responsible for my association with the music world today. How, you ask, do tell eh?? Or shut the fuck up and talk about the album maybe? Well I’m reminiscing so skip a couple of paragraphs if you don’t like it.

In 1992, I was introduced to Leppard, something I’ll write about in much more detail some other day. From there I discovered Guns N Roses, Meatloaf and Iron maiden. I was eight at the time and before these bands I had only ever heard Kyle Minogue, R.E.M., Michael Jackson, Madonna, Dire Straits and a hand full of others. In 1993, I discovered Nirvana and Green Day which left little room for Leppard and Guns. As I got older, Nirvana just seemed to make more sense and off course, for a kid trying to act like a surfer by the beech with a bunch of sixteen year olds, you had to like the coolest band or you were just a kid. After Kurt’s death, the MTV unplugged album and Green Day’s Dookie, my attention was diverted with new schools and soccer. Before long I was twelve listening to nothing but the radio on the school bus, passing no heed to the music world around me and things stayed like that until 1998 when I first heard Antichrist Superstar.

The album wasn’t really knows in Co. Leitrim and I only heard it after a new guy started in school and shock things up with his long hair and Slayers logo printed across his folder. Before him there was no interest in heavy Metal in my year, or any other can I can remember. The summer before he arrived, I’d been in London and one of my cousins had mentioned Marilyn Manson and how disgusted she was by him. Now, I had never heard of the man in my life but obviously I wanted to know more. Leitrim is quite a closed off place, even for someone who watched TV as much as me and since the internet wasn’t as prevalent as it is now, there was no-one I could ask for info about this illustrious monster. That was until (let’s call him – Metal Head 1) arrived. One of the first conversations I had with Metal head 1 was about MM. ‘Who was he? Why was he so hated? Oh, he’s a musician, what sort does he play? Metal eh, I used to like Def Leppard ya know, so I know I thing or two about metal’. Glad of someone to adopt as a protégé (or annoyed by the pesky prick asking him questions), he brought me in a very rough recording of Antichrist he made from Vinyl to Tape. The sound was distorted and muffled but absolutely incredible. Manson’s music was dark, frightening and, at the time, anything but cheesy or done before. He painted a horrifying world filled with the worst evils and bleakness man can force on its self. From the opening beats of Irresponsible Hate Anthem, to the fade out of Man That You Fear, Antichrist is one of the angriest, dirtiest, assaulting albums of all time. Sure there’s heavier out there and more graphic lyrics, but very few to compare to the tearing hatred behind Manson’s wastelands. Forget the singles and video’s, this was an album to be listened to in full, not a handful of hits that would ever fit right on a 4.99 greatest hits completion in Tesco. Needless to say I was hooked and couldn’t listen to anything else for months. Not even when Mechanical Animals was released could I stop, but eventually I moved on and spent another two or three months devoted to Animals. Needless to say, I became a fan.

Fast forward eleven years and as Billy Connolly put it, “in an uncertain world, it’s good to know that some things never change”. Manson has managed to produce another mind-bendingly great album. Although his last album, Eat Me Drink Me, managed to earn him a shocking amount of negativity, it also managed to disappoint all the emo’s looking for another album like The Golden Age of Grotesque (without a doubt, Manson’s worst to date) and lifted the public pressure a little. Instead, it saw him writing a full albums worth of unique love songs and moving his focus from the usual religious and social targets to a more personal topic. It wasn’t a typical MM release which put him right back on track as, no Manson album should be a typical MM album, it defeats the purpose. With the Billboard Number 1 phase over, he’s put the head down and managed to produce some crackin tunes with a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

The High End of Low catches Manson in rather a weird place. Instead of trying to reinvent himself as he’s done with almost every album beforehand, he’s decided to take the music back to a mid way point between Portrait of an American Family and Antichrist Superstar. It isn’t as wacky or theatrical as Portrait and isn’t as horrifying as Antichrist, just a nice even mix. Although similar in styles, the music’s over all feel is that of upbeat anthems trying to escape the clutches of hell. Twiggy;s bass is a welcome return to the band and he’s rejuvenated the overall feel of the songs. Instead of tired old Beautiful People rip off’s, The High End of Low sounds like a band working to regain their creditability…with a few misses along the way.

Right, lets get the shit stuff out of the way first. Songs like Arma-Goddam-Motherfuckin-Geddon, We’re From America and I want to kill you like they do in the Movies are not the best. AGMG grows on you but still manages to sound like a poor attempt at recreating those Beautiful People, Fight Song moments. While We’re From America and I.W.T.K.Y.L.T.D.I.T.M. have the shock value of a librarian working on a Sunday.

In sharp comparison, tracks like Devour, Leave A Scar, Four Rusted Horses, Running To The Edge of The World, Unlikable Monster, I Have To Look Up Just To See Hell and Into the Fire are some of the best songs the band have ever written. The number of different styles on this record is not typical of a Manson album as the band jumps from hard riff driven animals like Pretty As A Swastika, Arma-Goddam-Motherfuckin-Geddon to more stripped back rock and roll sing alongs like Leave A Scar and Black and White before tearing through some brooding, slow, bellowers such as Running To The Edge Of The World, Wight Spider and Unlikable Monster before confusing everything with the likes of Wow.

On first listen, this album sounds a little weak and takes several listens to adjust but it’s worth it afterwards. When released, Leave A Scar will become a major airplay song and Manson will once again surprise his audience. While the likes of Despite first sounding like laid back versions of previous songs, The High End of Low really manages to carve out it’s own identity, one that doesn’t go out of it’s way for shock value or a character behind it like previous release and for the first time since the early nineties, Marilyn Manson sounds like a band again, not a decaying antichrist leading his devotees through hell.

Well worth your attention for the next few weeks and a welcome addition to the MM discography.
