KISS ‘MONSTER’ Released Today!

Posted in INTO-NOISE!, Music, New Music with tags , , , , , on October 5, 2012 by Tickets There

The wait is over people! Today, KISS release their twentieth studio album ‘MONSTER’. It’s their first since 2009’s ‘Sonic Boom’ which saw them achieve their highest ever chart position in the US….just writing this, I believe Tickets There may have indicated in another article that Monster is the first album by the current line-up, of course it’s not – Sonic Boom was. Not like Tickets There wasn’t plastering Sonic Boom everywhere when it came out. Chalk that one up to Jack Daniels head.

Anyways, the album is out today – it’s going to be awesome and you may as well check out the cool trailer than band have released for it. Now, let’s wait for the 2013 European tour announcement! (will they bring Mötley Crüe over? Dare we dream??)

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , on October 1, 2012 by Tickets There

KISS have unveiled the artwork and tracklisting for their forthcoming album,. Monster, which is due for release on October 9th (America) and 15th (Europe).  This will be the band’s first album since 2009’s Sonic Boom which re-launched the group as a global rock force and finally gave the current line-up something to hold up as their own (yes, Tickets There LOVES KISS!)

Monster has once again been fully written and produced by the band with no outside song writers getting involved. In July the band released the albums first single, Hell or Hallelujah which showed a return to their early days. Fans can hear sneak peaks of all the tracks on ITunes – but that ruins the fun a little.

You know, over the years this blog has given former Guns N’ Roses / Adler’s Appetite drummer, Steven Adler, a fair bit of stick. At the time, deservably so. Review: W.A.S.P. – Live @ Vicar Street (September 25th, 2012)

Posted in Gig Review, INTO-NOISE!, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , on September 27, 2012 by Tickets There

Looking at Blackie Lawless in his thirtieth year of fronting W.A.S.P., it would be slightly forgivable to think the band is officially washed up. A man in the latter half of his mid-fifties still wearing eye liner, very unflatteringly tight get ups and his pre-emo hair sprayed do have all the hallmarks of a band that can’t move on. ….wait a minute, the person who writes those words should be shot!!

W.A.S.P. returned to Ireland tonight in spectacular form, bringing their much anticipated 1982 – 2012 Thirty year celebration tour to Dublin’s Vicar Street! A two hour, three part show that promised to dazzle, delight and rock your socks off, delivered everything a fan could ask for (no, no ‘Animal’ so stop wondering now). With a good two hours of hits and fan favourites to hammer out, the band wasted little time taking the stage and rocketing straight into ‘On Your Knee’s which sprang the audience to life. ‘The Torture Never Stops’, ‘The Real Me’, ‘ L.O.V.E. Machine’ all follow in quick succession with Blackie seemingly determined to prove W.A.S.P. have more than enough material to allow themselves to put some of their best right up front. The iconic ‘Wild Child’blasts through the PA with raw energy and nerve shattering vocals, fuelling the most pit that’s quickly expanding in the centre of the crowd.

Finally taking time to say hello, Blackie indulges in the famous “Irish hospitality’, even going so far as to attempt an Irish accent,  as the band rattle on with a melody of  fan favourites ‘Hellion, I Don’t Need No Doctor’ and ‘Scream Until You Like It’, pauing briefly before ‘Sleeping (In the Fire)’ and ‘Forever Free’.The Headless Children’ and the classic ‘I Wanna Be Somebody’ are performed in full as the main set closers, ending amost an hour of intense, sing along hard rock. With that, band are off and the crowd settles in for one of several short films W.A.S.P. are playing between sets and encores on this tour. When the band return, they celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘The Crimson Idol’ album with a mini set comprised of material from that album. ‘The Idol’ and ‘Misconceptions of Me’ receive the warmest greeting before another short intermission / short film.

With the audience now completely satisfied by the bands biggest hits and hardcore favourites, WASP have the easy job of finishing us off with some classic closers. Blackie takes the stage again, bandsaw arm bands shinning bright and recounts a tale where iconic W.A.S.P. guitarist Chris Holmes made the mistake of leaving change from $100 on a bar in Ireland after buying a drink. It seems poor Chris was unaware of an auld Irish tradition of using money left of the bar to buy drinks for the house – his security men saved him from likely beating when he tried to get it back. Thanking us for that experience, they kick off the encore. ‘Murders In The New Morgue (Chainsaw Charlie – \,,/)’ explodes out (sadly without the pyros some venues are getting on this tour) and sends the crowd into a frenzy. The sombre  ‘Heaven’s Hung In Black’ gets the powerful performance it deserves before W.A.S.P. finish us off with the anthematic ‘Blind In Texas’. Thanking the crowd, the band leave the stage after delivering one of the best Irish performances of their career. No Elvis, no blood, no pyros and no Animal – but W.A.S.P. don’t need them. After thirty years in the business, Blackie has amassed more than enough material and stage presence to do away with cheap gimmicks and deliver a quality show based on his music alone. Long live W.A.S.P. – see you soon!

The Doors Alive Return To The Academy

Posted in Music with tags , , , on September 7, 2012 by Tickets There

Tickets There wouldn’t normally be ones for tribute bands, but then again The Doors Alive are not your average cover act. We were fortunate enough to catch one of their packed midnight shows at the Academy a few years back and instantly became fans.

For those that weren’t alive (no pun intended) when the Doors were going, this is the closest you’ll ever get. All members invoke the spirit of the Doors music and relay that through their performance. You won’t catch them delivering note perfect renditions of the albums but instead they relay the sounds and experience of a genuine Doors show from the late sixties. There are no cheap gimmicks and Mr. Morrison manages to keep things in his trousers! What you get is a couple of hours of brilliant Doors classics for an excellent band.

Not to be missed – September 14th @ The Academy. Stage time (looks like) 8pm and it’ll only you cost you €15.

Review: TURN – Live @ Whelan’s (August 31st, 2012)

Posted in Gig Review, IRISH NOISE!, Music with tags , , , , , , , on September 2, 2012 by Tickets There

Re-capturing youth? Nah; TURN fans are still too young to worry about such things. It was only seven years since their last show together and most of us remember it like it was yesterday. In their time, TURN managed to release three critically acclaimed albums, achieve success both at home and in the U.K. with fiery, brooding heavy singles such as ‘Beretta’ and ‘Beeswax’, sell out almost every venue Dublin had to offer and tour the country relentlessly, assuring their place in Irish music history. Now they’re back (for a little while at least) to play a much anticipated show at this year’s Electric Picnic and tonight’s ’secret’ warm up show.

There’s not many local bands who could pack Whelan’s with an unannounced show on the starting day of the nation’s biggest and most beloved music festival; but that doesn’t seem to stop the Kells’ legends from doing just that. Taking a break from their solo ventures, Ollie Cole, Gavin Fox and Ian Melady are back together along with former bassist Ciaran Kavanagh on guitar. As the house lights go down and the excited crowd grin from ear to ear with excitement, the four familiar figures stroll on stage and kick off the show fan favourites ‘Never Needed’ and ‘Beretta’.

Turn both look and sound sharp, losing none of their on stage performance and power. ‘Anti-Social’ thrills Whelan’s with bar staff even attempting a look in for the obligatory sing along. ‘Summer Song’ and the sombre ‘You Got Style’ move us towards Turn’s seminal years before the gentle yet booming, ‘Heart Attack’, causes the band and crowd to explode to life with Ciaran’s second guitar giving the song the extra hitch it needs to fulfil it’s true quality.

As well as losing none of their power, it also appears that Gavin and (the recently married) Ollie have also retained their classic on stage quipping and banter, joking together and sharing a dedication to Ollie’s new bride. There’s a little more nostalgia when the band pause during ‘Queen of My Heart’ to allow Ian his classic live solo, aided of course by chants of ‘IANO’ before launching into ‘In Position’, one of the band’s most accomplished songs. The thundering ‘Harder’ ups the volume a few notches before the colossal ‘Beeswax’ shreds through the PA, sounding as fresh as the day it was written. Before bowing out to travel towards Stradbally, Turn thrill fans with one final performance of ‘Another Year Over’. Obviously delighted with the turnout and success of their first reunited show, the band amble off stage, ready to take on the waiting hordes at Electric Picnic tomorrow. Whatever their plans for the future, it would be a shame if this was the last we saw of them.

Never Needed

Beretta

Anti-Social

Summer Song

You Got Style

Heart Attack

TURN Announce Free Whelan’s Show Tomorrow Night

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on August 30, 2012 by Tickets There

I cannot get over this news, but on top of TURN reforming for Electric Picnic this weekend; the band have just announced a free headlining show in Whelan’s tomorrow night (yes, FREE!)

Whelan’s have just sent their newsletter out and confirmed the whole thing. TURN live on stage almost seven years since their last performance. Oliver Cole, Ian Melady, Gavin Fox and Ciran Kavanagh will revitalize the classic turn sound with a brooding double guitar density and four capable singers for harmonies…yadayadayafa – I almost too excited to write this properly (almost – feck off).

If you’re skipping the picnic then make sure you head along tomorrow night and catch one of Irelands greatest live forces tear Whelan’s apart!

Tickets There Will Be Back!

Another lengthy break, we’ve finally worked out a system that’ll see TT back on line ranting, raving and generally being ignored except by the elite coolest of the cool in society and me ma.

There’s so much awful, terrible horse **** out there that it’s our job as the greatest pioneers of Irish musical journalism and creators and curators of Ireland’s sexiest music blog to bring you – the great unwashed – all the music you’ll never need to hear, but always enjoy getting.

Fear not, the great TT awakens. After hearing Elbow we knew out quest was clear. Destroy chongo-pop, destroy the bleeding hearts who have the traumatic emotional experience of a watermelon and hail the fiery champions from all genres who ply their deadly trade night and day across the country.

TT is here for you 🙂

TURN Set to Re-Unite For Electric Picnic

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , on August 9, 2012 by Tickets There

A very exciting moment for Tickets There as our favorite Irish band of all time, TURN have announced they are officially rehearsing again and preparing to play Electric Picnic this year. Lead singer and guitarist Oliver Cole posted the following message on his facebook page confirming the news in the last hour,

Well it’s true. Gavin, Ian, Ciaran and myself have been rehearsing with Turn for electric picnic this year.

We play the Cosby tent at 5.30 on Saturday.

It’s gonna be awesome. It sounds so good. Expect a greatest hits set. It’s good to rock

The legendary Kell’s rockers formed in the late nineties and went on to produce a number of hit singles, several EP’s and three critically acclaimed albums before calling it a day in 2006. Now they’re coming back – as a foursome. Founding members, Oliver Cole, Gavin Fox and Ian Melady are all confirmed to take part, as is 2005 era bassist, Ciaran Kavanagh, also playing an unconfirmed role in the reunion.

So far only an appearance at the Picnic has been confirmed, but in subsequent comments to the post, Oliver stated there could be a couple more …()… Will keep everyone abreast of goings on’.

Are you excited? Hell yeah you are and this is going to make it even better – Ollie has also confirmed it’ll be a full on greatest hits set for the show so all you EP heads make sure you’re there on Saturday and see one of the best live bands we’ve ever produced, ply their trade as it should be – in front of thousands.

Tickets There will make sure we keep you updated on this. Good times! Anyone want to refresh some details about the band, here’s your chance,
