The Riptide Movement are a band familiar to us all and well they should be. Along with a limited number of names (not starting any wars here), TRM are the epitome of hard work, performance and energy. They are a credit to the Irish music scene and spend every second they can promoting their band, making themselves sharper, song writing, rehearing, exploring new avenues of self-promotion, making videos and constantly pushing themselves higher and higher up the chain. When they do a tour, it’s not two shows, its thirty. If they don’t have a gig – they busk. When they’re not busking they’re working behind the scenes – constantly and that work is now paying off.
The band are currently in India representing Ireland at the Rendezvous festival in New Delhi, which they’re capturing for Hot Press as their 2012 ‘Most Unusual Gig of the Year’ spot. When they get back, they start the task of promoting new single, ‘Without You’ from their second album, Keep On Keepin’ On that came out earlier this year. The promotion tour will take them around Ireland (including headlining shows at The Olympia, Roisin Dubh, The Forum and Dolan’s Warehouse) before they jet off to Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Prague, Vienna and Amsterdam. Irish dates can be found below and you can expect to see a review of their new single…..very soon.
Oct. 27th – The Slate, Cork.
Nov. 2nd – The Roisin Dubh, Galway
Nov. 10th – The Olympia, Dublin *Almost Sold-Out
Nov. 17th – The Forum, Waterford
Nov. 24th – Dolans Warehouse, Limerick
Nov. 30th – The Palace, Navan
Congrats to the Riptide and please – Keep on setting the bar for others. If all bands worked as hard as you, there’d be a lot less X-Factor in the world.
Review: The Riptide Movement – Live @ The Academy 2, Dublin (March 5th 2011)
Posted in Gig Review, IRISH NOISE!, Music with tags Hot Tramp, Keep On Keepin' On, The Academy 2, The Riptide Movement, What about the tip jars on April 7, 2011 by Tickets ThereA month! That’s how bloody long it’s taken us to knuckle down and tell you how good The Riptide Movement were at the Academy on March 5th. Whoever said Tickets There was a lazy blog owes us a serious apology. With speed like this we may even be considered for expulsion from the Irish music scene we hold so little presence on.
Aside from the delays, blurry memories and drunkenness that was ensnared us at The Riptide’s gig in March, we are happy to report that they rocked the place to it’s core. Not only that, but they managed to out play, out last and upstage the Go Team who were holding court in the venue’s main room on the same night. Having missed the opening acts of the evenings, Tickets There and a completely packed out Academy were treated to an hour and a half of excellently performed blues rock from one of Ireland’s brightest hopes in guitar rock for 2011. There was the hits from the forthcoming album including Hot Tramp and new single Keep on, Keepin’ On as well as a sizeable chunk of material from their début, What About The Tip Jars. There was an orchestra, there was crowd participation. Hell, there was even attempts at crowd suffering when things really heated up.
Without going into half fictional details due to the whole beer, lack of notes and goldfish like memory, we can honestly say it was one of the best Irish shows we’ve been to in yonks. The band’s practice of playing live every five seconds is ensuring their sound is delivered as good as any seasoned band and their songs are getting better by the day. With gigs beginning to exceed expectations in every way, you can bet that The Riptide Movement is a name you’ll be hearing a lot more of over the next few months.
….but no matter how good they are, we will never encourage them or any other Irish band to play the same stage as The Kings of Leon, no matter how good of an opportunity it is! Damn the KOL to hell!
The Riptide Movement – Keep On, Keepin’ On (Single Review)
Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News, Single Review with tags Hot Tramp, Keep On Keepin' On, The Academy 2, The Riptide Movement on March 1, 2011 by Tickets ThereThe Riptide Movement are back with a new single from their forthcoming debut album….(no title yet, excuse the lack of press J). Keep On, Keepin’ On follows their highly successful debut single, Hot Tramp that stormed the airwaves late last year.
Keeping their standard blue grass feel, the band has produced another tobacco chewing, spittoon of Cajun rock. This time the cut throat rock feel has been toned down but the feeling of Americana is still there and the band’s sound can be heard expanding with each note.
An excellent number that deserves as much attention as you can give it. The album is finished and coming out this year so keep an eye on Tickets There for updates because this is one you don’t want to miss.
If you want to get a taste of the new record, make sure you head down to see the lads live in The Academy 2 this weekend.
There’s two shows so whether you’re a young folks who can’t shave yet @ 14:00 (under 14’s) with special guests The Boxing Plot & The Competition followed by a late show (with drinkies for all you over the hill, drunken silly folk….myself included) @ 20:00 with special guests Leaving Las Vegas & Powderhorse.
Tickets are priced E10 for both shows and there’ll be free CD’s on the day!
