Review: Guns N’ Roses – Live @ The O2, Dublin (May 17th, 2012)

Posted in Gig Review, Music with tags , , , , , , , on May 22, 2012 by Tickets There

“Axl’s not coming, he fell off a table in Russia and isn’t allowed to fly at the moment”. Just leaving the central bar on O’Connell Street to catch the Luas down to the O2 and one waiter talks himself out of ever getting my custom again with that little comment. But then again, what’s a Guns N’ Roses gig without a little drama?

Entering the O2 tonight brings back some of those worries and dreads from 2010 (the elephant in the room), but these are dashed instantly as a completely different crowd and atmosphere await. There’s no-one falling over the place, spilling their blue WKD’s and roaring insults at everything in sight. There’s no booing, complaining or bickering. Instead there’s an excitement in the air and the sight of Thin Lizzy taking the stage only heightens that.

Anyone that’s caught the Irish legends over the past few years will attest that they are the strongest line-up of the band since their glory days with Philo. Brian Downey and Scott Gorham are still there, looking and sounding great but the show stealer is frontman, Ricky Warwick. He avoids the cliché of adopting Phil’s moves and style to the letter, choosing instead to inject his own road tested brand of rock n’ roll energy and deep vocals which boost the songs energy and the band’s performance. Tonight they magnetically blaze through classics such as ‘Emerald’, ‘Jailbreak’, ’Don’t Believe A Word’, ‘Cowboy Song’, ‘Whiskey In The Jar’ and ‘The Boys are Back in Town’ before finishing off with ‘Black Rose’, noted favourite of Guns singer Axl Rose. The announcement of a headlining show later in the year doubtfully went un-noted by tonight’s attendees. Now, on to the main event!

Lizzy leave the stage around 9:30 and it’s time to let the anticipation begin. Unlike Guns’s previous show in Dublin, the crowd tonight seem more than happy to wait things out as the bar queues extend, the smoking area expands and everyone kicks back and relaxes with good tunes coming from the PA. Before we know it, the house lights go dark and it’s time to rock n roll.

Under their massive video backdrop, guitarist DJ Ashba climbs on high to deliver the show’s signature opening of ‘Chinese Democracy’ before their legendary frontman explodes to life amidst a massive pyro display. The crowd give a rapturous welcome to the band as they commandeer every inch of the stage, taking no prisoners in their mission to give their fans the greatest show possible. Guitarists Ron Thal, Richard Fortus and especially DJ Asba barely stand still for a moment as they rocket from side to side, lapping up the crowds cheers and delivering note perfect performances while Axl’s razor sharp vocals and on stage magnetism conquers all. Despite persistent rumours that he’s gained hundreds of pounds in weight, lost his voice and is apparently stuck in Russia, he is on stage, looking incredible, sounding better than ever and 100% guaranteed – is not a hologram. Even with his very recent and very serious looking leg injury, Axl still dances and moves across the stage likes there’s no tomorrow, even climbing up to the podiums on either side to greet everyone.

Set classics such as ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, ‘It’s So Easy’, ‘Mr. Brownstone’ and ‘Rocket Queen’ electrify the crowd while Chinese Democracy heavyweights ‘Sorry’, ‘This I Love’, ‘Street of Dreams’ and ‘Better’ bellow through the audience with incredible energy and force.

The band appears in great spirits, obviously delighted with the change since their last performance. Axl interacts on several occasions with the crowd even quipping that despite his leg injury (I’m) “probably moving a lot more than the last time I was here” before grinning and carrying on. Solo’s from the band add refreshing breaks from the onslaught of heavyweight classics and Chinese Democracy juggernauts and give each of the guys a chance to show the fans why they’re members of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band of all time. Tommy Stinson performs ‘Motivation’, a song from his previous band The replacements. DJ Ashba moves in with his own ‘Mi Amor’ solo. Dizzy Reed gives us a little ‘Baba O’Riley’ from The Who and Ron Thal knocks out his take on the Pink Panther theme before slipping in a little ‘Danny Boy’ for the crowd.

You Could Be Mine’, ‘Sweet Child O’Mine’, ‘November Rain’ (preceded by Axl Rose’s piano solo) and ‘Don’t Cry’ deliver hit after hit before the band kick back with a cover of AC/DC’sWhole Lotta Rosie’ – doing the DC proud! The mighty and rarely heard ‘Estranged’ adds a wave of euphoria to those in attendance who swear it’s the bands greatest recorded moment before the epic ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’ and assaulting ‘Nightrain’ bring the main set to a close. Just when you think they’ve nothing left in them, the band return for a quick jam before launching into ‘There Was A Time’, one of the most accomplished songs in their arsenal before delivering ‘Civil War’ and one final blowout performance of ‘Paradise City’. With red confetti flying in the air, thousands of fans screaming and cheering the band on, Axl and co bow before their final signoff – three hours after walking on stage, “Thanks for coming out, thanks for putting up with my lame ass and thanks for not throwing shit”. Anytime Mr. Rose because good things come to those who wait – come back soon!

18 Reasons Why Axl Rose Is The Biggest Legend In Rock

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music, News with tags , , , , , , on May 10, 2012 by Tickets There

Guns N’ Roses 2012 European Tour kicks off tomorrow night in Moscow and one week from today, they’ll take the stage at Dublin’s O2 Arena with Thin Lizzy and Vengeance & the Panther Queen as special guests. It’s been two long years since their last Irish shows and this writer for one is dying to welcome them back to the Emerald isle. Home of Paradise City, Guinness and a welcoming crowd.

Old Tickets There decided to celebrate and have a bit of fun with NME’s recent ’18 Reasons why Axl Rose is a….’ can’t actually remember what they were aiming at. Either way, let’s see why Axl Rose is as big a legend as he is.

18: His Attitude

Nuff said really – Axl’s attitude is second to none. He doesn’t let people push him around or tell him what to do, something the population of the Ireland (and indeed the world) could do with a little bit more if we’re ever to convince the courts to hang / castrate the remaining members of Finna Fail, the ‘bankers’ and Dana.

17: Tommy Hilfiger-gate

Axl Rose got into a fight with Tommy Hilfiger, do you care? It lasted all of two seconds in a pub. Imagine that, a small scuffle in a pub. Tisk, Tisk, Tisk!

16: He’s not a one-woman man

Axl Rose in proper rock star fashion sleeps with a lot of women. If you were single, had lots of money and were the front man of Guns N’ Roses, you’d do the same. If not, you’d still try your darndest!  Not NME though, they have a very strict Morrissey A-Sexual policy. Keep on keepin’  down the big fella lads, he’ll only land ye in trouble with mommy.

15: Bob Guccione Jr-gate

Axl Rose got into a fight with Bob Guccione Jr. Do you care? Yes you do because that fight got taken into the awesome ’Get In The Right’. Weighting in at 850 lbs, Guns N’ Roses’. How many of you have had fights turned in to savage songs?

14: Scared of seaweed? WTF?

Apparently Axl doesn’t like seaweed….do you care? Suppose, it’s horrible slimy sh*t. Some people like to bath in it, other people like to whip themselves in worship to God or the Gods of Berlin’s nightlife. Let the man have his pet-fear. Mine is rats, some people keep those as pets. Basic message, people like / hate random sh*t – except at NME where they favor A-sexual men and a confrontation free environment….except of course when they write hate blogs J

13: His non-existent sense of humor?

He told me this joke one time, you would have sh*t yourself. Prove me wrong!

12: He’s got no Patience

Miss-heading heading here, I believe it’s Slash’s fans that have no patience. Axl will distill his talent until it’s perfect.

11: Metallica-gate

Axl Rose and Metallica do not get along so well. Guess it just p*ssed off Metallica that they had to open for Guns way back in 1992. People think it’s because of Montreal, but Metallica’s ‘A Year and a Half In the Life of’ video will show otherwise.

10: He hates poodles

Cannot blame the man, what a waste of life. Silly looking dogs for Beverly Hill wannabes.

9: Not a fan of ‘fans’ …. getting this shit kicked out of them.

A few years back, Axl stopped a show to kick out three security guards after witnessing them getting extremely rough with fans in the front row. Axl stopped the show, pointed to the three men and demanded they be removed. Once they left, Guns carried on. Uncle Axl has your back! Watch the video below if you like (you won’t find this one on NME)

8: Velvet Revolver-gate

Band members fall out. One crowd starts a new band – they have a cyber-spat. Six trolls all doing their best.

Also, Scott Weiland did make that whole comment about being remorseful towards Axl once he learned firsthand what it was like to be in a band with certain old Guns…. Ahem (link – http://gnrdaily.com/news_detail.asp?id=1984  )

7: It’s hard enough remembering lyrics…

A lot of artists use monitors for lyrics. Legendary bands and those that can afford them of course. When you write songs and make a successful career out of that art it doesn’t suddenly mean you’re memory is gifted with the space of terabyte memory stick. When Axl sits in front of one with glasses on and reads them off, then we’ll worry.

6Nirvana-gate

Nirvana is a harsh word. Basically Axl Rose told Kurt Cobain to shut Courtney Love up. Now honestly, wouldn’t we all have loved if it had worked? Maybe Kurt wouldn’t … well, you know, and maybe Courtney Love would actually have shut the f**k up. If you’re listening love, do us all a favor and shut the f**k up you twisted, dried up *insert words commonly used aside ‘epidemic of the late 1980’s* *insert word often associated with degenerate scum who ((should resort to)) sell(ing) their body for sex and almost always follows the first expletive word*

5: White dreads

Axl is so cool he braved the media and put his head in dreads! Didn’t last long, but fair play for trying something new!

4: Terrible dress sense

Terrible, sorry that’s an NME typo. Awesome was the word we were going for there. Axl’s dress sense on tour has always been something that gave Guns some of their character. Mixing and matching everything from SWAT gear, to kilts, to union jack jackets and bandanas. Axl has been at the forefront of everything that was cool about the late 80’s and 90’s and now he’s doing it for the new millennium. The infamous yellow jacket was worn at a very wet show and doesn’t make regular appearances so don’t judge an Axl by an NME.

3: ‘Chinese Democracy’

First they released the (arguably) biggest rock album in history, follow that with a massively successful EP and then two massive double albums that spawned numerous successful singles and were chock full of fan favorites. Then there was the covers album, live album, greatest hits and eventually, the most anticipated album in music history. Impressive?

During its conception, announcement and eventual release, Chinese Democracy amassed more stories than the folklore of a small European country, provided music analysts with world breaking stats (most expensive album in history..yaday..etc) and countless comparison arguments (Beatles entire recording career was completed in half the time of the recording of Chinese Democracy… Remember that?). Ex-members, managers, session players, friends and family of the band were inundated for a decade+ about the album. It’s been toured since 2002 and finally saw release in late 2008. Upon the album’s release, there were rumors that the record company had simply snapped the mix from Axl’s hand and gone ahead with the release he did not endorse. In response, Axl snubbed all partnerships and release hysteria and basically dropped off the face of the planet for several weeks before finally re-emerging to answer fans questions…directly. No middle man, nio pushy agenda ridden media drone – Axl went online directly to Guns N’ Roses fan forums and spent several hours a night for over a week talking to fans, answering their questions and giving his version of events for the first time in roughly two decades.

The album could have been the biggest seller of 2008, but due to Axl’s refusal to acknowledge its release, it managed the number 3 on the US Billboard Top 200 and debuted in the top 5 position of 26 different sales charts. In the four years since it’s release, Chinese Democracy has started to win original naysayers over with some critics begin to voice the opinion that it stands the test of time extremely well and the more you distance yourselves from the line-up controversy, the album stands out as the gem it truly is.

2: Cornrows

After trying the dreads, Axl went for cornrows and they actually looks pretty savage.

1: Guns N Roses

Love him, hate him – Axl is the spirit of Guns N’ Roses. After Izzy, Slash and Duff all quit, Axl was left without the core lineup that helped write those magic songs and make them famous. Fortunately, he was able to replace them all with extremely talented, sh*t coll musicians including Tommy Stinson from The Replacements. DJ Ashba from Sixx:AM and Beautiful Creatures. Guitar virtuoso, song writer, producer and all round legend – Ron Thal. The incredible Richard Fortus who doubles as lead and rhythm in Guns three guitar attack lineup. Richard has played The Psychedelic Furs and Thin Lizzy as well as Guns. Live drummer Frank Ferrer has been with the band since 2006 when he had to jump in to fill the gap left by Brian Mantia who left the tour after he became a father. Frank has since become the backbone to their powerful live sound and has extensive touring / recording experience. Dizzy Reed (Rock N’ Roll inductee and twenty two year Guns N’ Roses veteran) is still there providing backing vocals and keyboards with a little help from Chris Pitman who plays keyboards, bass, 12 string guitar and mellotron (sher why not?). Chris has also been involved in writing some of the highest profile tracks on Chinese Democracy as well as playing on them all.

Together they make up a band of younger, aggressive musicians who aren’t afraid to explore new sounds and shake up the confines that some fans wish to banish Guns to. Life changes, if you don’t change with it you gain two things – moss and guided tours. Guns N’ Roses are still fresh, still fighting fit and sounding better than ever. The man who wrote / co-wrote 46 of Guns N’ Roses 64 studio tracks still stands tall as leader of this great band and one of rock n’ roll’s greatest legends.

Guns N’ Roses: No Appetite for Induction

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , on April 12, 2012 by Tickets There

Guns N’ Roses will not be re-uniting for the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame. Despite early hopes from fans (ourselves included) that that classic Appetite for Destruction line-up may get up on stage for a couple of tunes at this Saturday’s ceremony, it is now confirmed this will not happen. In what can only be described as a couple of turbulent weeks of scathing comments (thank you Steve – the Knob – Adler) and suggestive stabs (good man Slash), lead singer Axl Rose has finally broken his silence and confirmed he will not only refuse his invite to the ceremony, but has also refused induction, even by another member of the band.

In an open letter sent to several media outlets, Axl Rose has refused to be inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame. In 2006, notorious punk rockers The Sex Pistols refused to attend the ceremony, even going as far to call the museum a ‘piss stain’. Now Axl has refused not only his invite, but the (so called) honour of induction which, according to reports this morning, the Hall are refusing to acknowledge and will continue with the induction of Axl, Slash, Steven, Duff, Izzy, Matt and Dizzy.

Axl Rose Letter (April 11th): I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf. Neither former members, label representatives nor the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame should imply whether directly, indirectly or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of ‘GUNS N’ ROSES.’

Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Statement (April 12th) :”We are sorry Axl will not be able to accept his induction in person,” Lauren Bishop, a spokeswoman for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, said in a statement.

The news will no doubt be a blow to any hangers on who expected the band to drop the anger and move on together. For the rest of us, Guns N’ Roses kick off theior 2012 European Tour next month in Russia and hits Ireland on May 17th, O2 Arena with Thin Lizzy as support. Axl Rose Full Open Letter

Original – http://www.facebook.com/notes/guns-n-roses/axls-letter-to-the-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-guns-n-roses-fans-and-whom-it-may-/10150928055678222

“When the nominations for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame were first announced, I had mixed emotions, but, in an effort to be positive, wanting to make the most of things for the fans and with their enthusiasm, I was honored, excited and hoped that somehow this would be a good thing. Of course I realized as things stood, if GUNS N’ ROSES were to be inducted, it’d be somewhat of a complicated or awkward situation.

“Since then we’ve listened to fans, talked with members of the board of the Hall Of Fame, communicated with and read various public comments and jabs from former members of GUNS N’ ROSES, had discussions with the president of the Hall Of Fame, read various press (some legit, some contrived) and read other artists’ comments weighing in publicly on GUNS and the Hall with their thoughts.

“Under the circumstances, I feel we’ve been polite, courteous, and open to an amicable solution in our efforts to work something out. Taking into consideration the history of GUNS N’ ROSES, those who plan to attend along with those the Hall for reasons of their own, have chosen to include in ‘our’ induction (that, for the record, are decisions I don’t agree with, support or feel the Hall has any right to make), and how (albeit no easy task) those involved with the Hall have handled things… no offense meant to anyone but the Hall Of Fame induction ceremony doesn’t appear to be somewhere I’m actually wanted or respected.

“For the record, I would not begrudge anyone from GUNS their accomplishments or recognition for such. Neither I or anyone in my camp has made any requests or demands of the Hall Of Fame. It’s their show not mine.

“That said, I won’t be attending the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction 2012 ceremony and I respectfully decline my induction as a member of GUNS N’ ROSES to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

“I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf. Neither former members, label representatives nor the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame should imply whether directly, indirectly or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of ‘GUNS N’ ROSES.’

“This decision is personal. This letter is to help clarify things from my and my camp’s perspective. Neither is meant to offend, attack or condemn. Though unfortunately I’m sure there will be those who take offense (God knows how long I’ll have to contend with the fallout), I certainly don’t intend to disappoint anyone, especially the fans, with this decision. Since the announcement of the nomination we’ve actively sought out a solution to what, with all things considered, appears to be a no win, at least for me, ‘damned if I do, damned if I don’t’ scenario all the way around.

“In regard to a reunion of any kind of either the ‘Appetite’ or ‘Illusion’ lineups, I’ve publicly made myself more than clear. Nothing’s changed.

“The only reason, at this point, under the circumstances, in my opinion whether under the guise of ‘for the fans’ or whatever justification of the moment, for anyone to continue to ask, suggest or demand a reunion are misguided attempts to distract from our efforts with our current lineup of myself, Dizzy Reed, Tommy Stinson, Frank Ferrer, Richard Fortus, Chris Pitman, Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal and DJ Ashba.

Izzy came out with us a few times back in ’06 and I invited him to join us at our LA Forum show last year. Steven was at our show at the Hard Rock, later in ’06 in Las Vegas, where I invited him to our after-party and was rewarded with his subsequent interviews filled with reunion lies. Lesson learned. Duff joined us in 2010 and again in ’11 along with his band, LOADED, opening in Seattle and Vancouver. For me, with the exception of Izzy or Duff joining us on stage if they were so inclined somewhere in the future for a song or two, that’s enough.

“There’s a seemingly endless amount of revisionism and fantasies out there for the sake of self-promotion and business opportunities masking the actual realities. Until every single one of those generating from or originating with the earlier lineups has been brought out in the light, there isn’t room to consider a conversation let alone a reunion.

“Maybe if it were you it’d be different. Maybe you’d do it for this reason or that. Peace, whatever. I love our band now. We’re there for each other when the going get’s rough. We love our fans and work to give them every ounce of energy and heart we can.

“So let sleeping dogs lie or lying dogs sleep or whatever. Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn’t owe you your own personal happy ending especially at another’s, or in this case several others’, expense.

“But hey if ya gotta then maybe we can get the ‘no show, grandstanding, publicity stunt, disrespectful, he doesn’t care about the fans’ crap out of the way as quickly as we can and let’s move on. No one’s taking the ball and going home. Don’t get it twisted. For more than a decade and a half we’ve endured the double standards, the greed of this industry and the ever present seemingly limitless supply of wannabes and unscrupulous, irresponsible media types. Not to imply anything in this particular circumstance, but from my perspective in regard to both the Hall and a reunion, the ball’s never been in our court.

“In closing, regardless of this decision and as hard to believe or as ironic as it may seem, I’d like to sincerely thank the board for their nomination and their votes for GUNS‘ induction. More importantly I’d like to thank the fans for being there over the years, making any success we’ve had possible and for enjoying and supporting GUNS N’ ROSES music.

“I wish the Hall a great show, congratulations to all the other artists being inducted and to our fans we look forward to seeing you on tour!!

“Sincerely,

Axl Rose

“P.S. RIP Armand, Long Live ABC III”

Guns N’ Roses 2012 Dublin Show: Exciting Possibilities

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , , on January 31, 2012 by Tickets There

Fans could be in for a seriously delicious treat when Guns N’ Roses hit the O2 on may 17th. Denis Desmond has stated the band will be using Ireland as a rehearsal base before they hit the road for a European trek in May, June and July and Dublin will be the kick off show for that tour. (Axl himself requested a show in Dublin to clear up ‘unfinished business’ with his Irish fans. For those pessimists out there, that means Axl wants to come back and rock the house with Guns, just like they do everywhere else in the world.

Now the exciting bit (yes, even more exciting). Since Dublin will be the kick off show, Irish fans may get to experience a show similar to that seen in Taipei and Seoul back in 2009 where Guns played up to 3.5/4 hours a night, playing over 25 songs. There could be new material, live tests – the works!

Either way, you’re still in for a three hour show, packed full of their excellent new material and the classics. Once again, bring it ON!

**Update – February 17th 2012 – Guns N’ Roses play Hiro Ballroom In New York and Announce Israel Show!**

Last night, the GN’R boyos played an exclusive, invite only (la-de-da) stripped back show at the Hiro Ballroom at the Maritime Hotel in New York (previously unannounced – show #4 of the UCAP special). They played a full set in the small room with the band appearing as they are, no stage shows, gimmicks, nothing. Aside from some gobshite who through a glass a Ron Thal, the show seems to have gone off exactly with another packed set that still includes – ‘I used to Love Her’ but no ‘Shacklers Revenge’ for Tickets There (sad face).

Oh, and did we mention Guns N’ Roses will play Israel at Hayarkon Park, Tel Aviv on July 3rd?. Be there or …. be at temple I suppose. Either way have a good excuse! This is the 12th show of their 2012 summer tour with many more still to come (we hope!)

A big thank you to www.chinesedemocracy.com for the pictures.

**Update – February 13th2012 – Switzerland Show Announced
**

Just after we confirm there’s no new European updates, we get a f**king-nother one. Not that the good people of Switzerland are going to mind. Guns N’ Roses have confirmed a date at St. Jakobshalle, Basel for the 27th of June. The venue holds about 9,000 people and was made famous by inspiring Bob Dylan to begin his ‘Never ending tour’, which anyone that’s ever seen Bob Dylan will know is not necessarily a good thing. Give it up Bob, give it up. (excellent use of Wikipedia there TT! – Ed). Tickets are priced CHF 80.00 and go on sale…well, best we can tell is they’re on sale now – Click Here

**Update – February 13th2012 – Guns N’ Roses ‘Up Close and Personal’, 2 Dates In**

Guns N’ Roses are two dates into their ‘Up Close and Personal’ US tour. The band are playing seven American shows in much smaller venues than you’d normally see them in an effort to reconnect with fans and the band’s roots. So far the group have performed two of the three New York shows with the tour starting in Manhattan’s Roseland Ballroom before moving on to Terminal 5, which is located in Hell’s Kitchen. Both venues have an approx. capacity of 3,000. Next stop will be the show everyone’s been waiting for, a return to ‘The Ritz’ (1,500 capacity – awesome) where the band recorded their famous ‘Guns N’ Roses Live At The Ritz concert in 1988. The venue has since returned to its original name, Webster Hall but in honour of Gun’s return, they’re renaming it for one night.

So far the sets have been in the range of two hours and forty minutes with a selection of songs to please any fan (aside from ‘Chinese Democracy’ no longer appearing on the set – Boo urns!). With songs, solo’s and jams – the set features roughly 29 different moments. Standouts include ‘Estranged’, ‘Don’t Cry’, ‘Civil War’, ‘This I Love’, ‘Rocket Queen’ and ‘Better’.  Full dates for the remaining shows can be seen below and on Guns N’ Roses official website – www.gunsnroses.com

GUNS N’ ROSES Announce 2012 Dublin Show

Posted in Gig Listing, Music, News with tags , , , , on January 27, 2012 by Tickets There

I know right! WTF is going on in the world? As ZombieDee phrased it, has hell actually frozen over and do they need additional heaters to stop their water tanks from collapsing through their celling’s? Dear hell, if you are in need of assistance please do not be too proud to ask. We Irish have been through it enough.

Seriously though, seriously! Guns N’ Roses, the greatest hard rock band in the world have (seriously) announced a show at Dublin’s Point Theatre (O2 Arena) for the 17th of May. Ahem, you may remember their infamous 2010 show at the same venue….need I try to carry on with half assed witty comments?? I think not.

Guns N’ Roses are coming back, tickets go on sale next Friday, February 3rd @ 09:00 priced €65.45 plus booking fee from ticketmaster.ie. This will be just a few weeks after their inducted into the rock ‘n’ roll hall of fame which is expected to see the original line-up reform for one night in celebration of the event. There’s also talk the new Guns will be touring Europe all summer so expect a few more dates soon.

Note to Fans: Get over it! If you don’t want to go then don’t. The band will arrive late, Slash will not be there so don’t buy a ticket if all you’re going to do is bitch about the new line-up, Axl, the tardiness..etc, etc. Go see another band if you want punctuality. If you go see Guns N’ Roses prepare for a taxi home (cause there’ll be no trains), a long wait and one of the best live shows you’ll ever see with three hours of incredible music. You have four months to save for the taxi and a few extra pints so no bitch slap rapping!

Guns N’ Roses – Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide: Vinyl & Cassette Buyers Guide

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, INTO-NOISE!, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 13, 2011 by Tickets There

This page is the accumulation of several years’ research, hard work, frantic panic, image comparing, fact re-re-re checking and the near collapse of my better half’s admirable patience. If you’re in the market for a copy of this record or you’re close to someone who’s searched for it, you’ll understand.

So you know who Guns N’ Roses are and more than likely you know what Live Like A Suicide is. If you didn’t you most likely wouldn’t have found this page. Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide is a mini-album released by Guns N’ Roses back in 1986. It’s a fake live record and was recorded in a studio with audience sounds added after. It contains four tracks, Reckless Life, Nice Boys (Rose Tattoo song), Move To The City and Mama Kin (Aerosmith cover). It was released by the band on their own Uzi Suicide label under the guidance of Geffen Records who were worried about the band’s instability and they wanted to test the market before pushing a full studio album. Reportedly 25,000 copies were pressed but only 10,000 copies were sold. It never appeared on CD so legit formats only include 12” vinyl and the rarer cassette; but we’ll talk about that later on. Originally I was going to write a handy point by point piece, but feck it. If you’re in the market and have the cash, then take the time to properly research your future purchase and avoid getting ripped off.

(DISCLAIMER: The information contained within this guide is based on my own research and may not be 100% factual. Tickets There does not guarantee everything in this guide is true and the only reason we’re saying that is because psycho-bitches sue everything in sight.

Due to the rarity of this release and also the fact it’s an official album release in the bands discography, Live Like A Suicide is a must have for all Guns N’ Roses collectors. Normally this would be handy enough, fork out a couple of hundred dollars and bob’s your uncle, but like everything else GN’R related, there’s a complication. If you like seedy Russian tricksters, deceit, worry, exploitation and more worry; then read on.

The Myth

Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide is not a highly difficult record to find, despite some collectors insistence that it is. At almost every minute of everyday a copy is being sold on Ebay. As for the records high price tag, this is entirely dependent on how much a fan is willing to pay. Factory sealed, undamaged copies have been valued by long time reference guide Ladydairhean @ $300. However it’s rare you’ll find a factory sealed copy for less than $400, especially on Ebay, Eil.com, Discogs..etc Again, the value will only go up and if you have the cash, Tickets There says ‘go for it!’. Unless of course it’s a fake which brings is to the real point of this page.

I started looking for an original printing of this EP about three years ago. Like everyone else who does a little research, I was introduced to ‘the myth’ which scares 100% of all LLAS buyers away from immediately parting with cash for a copy. The myth goes as follows; in the early nineties, some chap in Russia bought a vinyl cutting press and reproduced several hundred / thousand copies of Live Like A Suicide in an attempt to cash in on Guns ‘Use Your Illusion’ success. Whether or not this is still going on is unknown. If it ever happened like that at all is also unknown. One thing that is guaranteed, not every copy of Live Like A Suicide sold is an original and there are some very obvious, some very difficult and some un-guaranteed methods of checking if the copy you’re buying is an original or not.

‘LIES’

LIES is the second album release by Guns N’ Roses. It came out in 1988 and as well as featuring the classic Patience, the notorious One In A Million and the savage Used To Love Her, it also includes the four Live Like A Suicide tracks. Technically the album is an E.P., but what can you do. The front cover was a take on all the bad press the band were generating with their off stage antics, the back cover was a re-print of the original Live Like A Suicide art work and that’s were the trouble begins.

People looking to buy LLAS will generally run into the LIES problem first. This is when a seller posts an image of the back cover of LIES and advertise it as LLAS. Most sellers will generally slip a note in somewhere saying it’s actually LIES you’re buying, but some miserable bastards won’t. Fortunately you’ve found this guide and we can help.

LIES Front & Back Covers: Spotting a copy of LIES is very simple. First of all, there’s a bar code in the top right hand corner and some writing and logos at the bottom. These do not appear on the actual Live Like A Suicide. The more adventurous tricksters will try to hide these using paint or photoshop so always ensure you ask the seller for several clear images and close-ups taken in daylight if you have doubts. As for back cover images, these are generally taken from the back of the LIES inner sleeve as this was also re-produced from the original LLAS artwork.

There are two main give-aways to look out for. First, the original LLAS does not have G SIDE 1986 printed after the Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide name. Again this can be edited out with paint and photo-shop so look for the second main give-away, the shading. While some sites will tell you there is no white text on the original LLAS, there is (the song titles appear in white); but not as much as there is on LIES. Checking the shading around the LLAS logo (especially the words LIVE & LIKE A) On Lies the shading will be white, on the original it’ll be a purple colour. Also check the overall quality of the record as the back cover of Live Like A Suicide is glossy and hard, the LIES inner sleeve is darker, plainer and paper. Here’s an image of the covers side by side for reference. (Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide is on the right)

FINDING FAKES

When it comes to spotting a fake, things get a little more difficult, especially using pictures. Time of day / artificial lighting and flash photography all change the particulars of the art work which some use as the basis for spotting a fake. Ladydairhean puts a lot of emphasis on colour in her guide but a lot of her points are not correct as far as I’ve been able to tell. The examples she uses are based on pictures she’s found and used to write the article from rather than using a genuine copy of the record. Unfortunately, colour is still one of the key factors in judging your copie’s authenticity. Fake copies generally have a darker front and back cover. The real Live Like A Suicide has a fairly dark front cover, but the back has a strong red tint that’s visible in the light. Since it’s hard to get a side by side image of the front cover, you’re best off asking for a photo of the back cover from a slanted birds eye view to verify the red tint.

As for the colour of the labels, the red side is a dark toned red, not blood red or bright. In certain lights the label can also appear slightly orange, pink and bright red –that makes things nice and easy don’t it? Here’s a few images of the official release’s label in different lights (All images taken of the same copy in different lights)

Record Marks

It’s reported that the Live Like A Suicide vinyl’s matrix engravings were also reproduced on the fake copies (I know, bastards!!!). So checking these is necessary, but again it’ doesn’t guarantee authenticity. The LLAS matrix numbers are,

  • USR-001-A/B-SH1 USR-001 A/B-SH2

There is good news though, one crucial stamp is reported to not have been included on most of the bootleg copies!! Engraved along the same lines as the matrix numbers you should see the world ‘STERLING’ machine stamped on both sides of the record. One final thing, there’s also a raised ‘A’ within the inner circle on both sides of the label, but like the STERLING stamp is sometimes impossible to photograph and won’t appear in 90% of the images you see of this release.

Again, some of the fakes are reported to have this stamp included, however it doesn’t appear as prominently as it does on the genuine copies. Considering the difficulty in photographing the stamp on the genuine copies, this will be difficult to assess on-line and would best to check in person. We are working with one of the forum users on HTGTH to get a photograph of the fake ‘STERLING’ stamp for comparison.

A special thanks to Rubber Soul Records in Stoke-On-Trent, England (yes, the home of Slash and Lemmy!) for allowing us to use this image. I may have gone overboard on the branding, but this is a very difficult picture to take on most camera’s and I’m sure no-one wants it stolen by some **** on Ebay. Thank you guys!

Vinyl Colour

One very obvious way to see a fake is the colour of the record itself. If you see anything other than black vinyl – stay away. There is no such thing as an official copy printed on red, yellow, see through or any other kind of vinyl other than black. Despite the fact that these pressing are fake, some collectors still view them as collectable and have been known to pay upwards of £70 for a copy. These are surprisingly rare these days but can be found from time to time on Ebay.

Misleading Photos

There is one problem that is difficult to find a resolution for, stolen pictures. Sellers can quite easily steal pictures from guides like this and others; or simply steal them from other on-line sellers. There’s little you can do to avoid this but if you’re wary of this, request specific images from the seller from various angels. If the item is legit, the images should be mailed and you’ll notice if the environment & lightening changes. If it does, be careful as it could mean the seller has hunted down the images from other sites. If all remains the same, then they most likely have the record to hand. Remember: If you’re paying £100+ £100+ €100 for an item, it is OK to ask for photos and receive them – do not deal with any seller that refuses to provide these.

Previous Sales (Ebay)

On Ebay you can check if a seller has sold copies of the EP before and this is another way of spotting fraudulent items. If you see a seller is selling the album regularly, do not buy. If you see a seller only selling privately, do not buy. If you see one or two occurrences, check other items for sale and see if 1, everything is high priced (rare for a private seller to only sell high priced items. Items like Live Like A Suicide should be gems in their collections and much more expensive than their other items) and 2, if there’s any trend to the music they’re selling. If they have rare Guns N’ Roses LP’s, then most likely they’re hard rock / metal fans and other items should sync with that. Shops won’t be good for this but private sellers will.

UPDATE: I just saw a LLAS cassette for sale on Ebay. Thing is, they’re using thumbnails from the copy I bought last week!!! The seller has 3 pieces of feedback (one of them negative) and has taken the pictures and description from the cassette I purchased a few days ago – FAKE!. The way I’ve gone about re-checking my items authenticity is simple, I went to the seller I purchased the cassette from, went into his feedback as a seller. Clicked through the recent ‘View Items’ from recent feedback and checked the background of the photos he’s been using. Fortunately, they’re consistent with the background from the LLAS cassette meaning he has the tape, the other seller doesn’t. This is another handy trick when buying any copy of LLAS but again, people don;t necessarily photograph their item in the same place.

CASSETTE

Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide was officially released on cassette in 1986. Like the LP, it came factory sealed and included the same four tracks on both A&B sides. The art work differed slightly from the 12” version due to the fact that the 12” graphics were printed on the front side of the sleeve while the credits were printed on the back against a dark grey background.

Tickets There has not been able to work out how many of these cassettes are in existence but the original overall figure of 10/25K copies printed of the EP seems to include both vinyl and cassette; however there were much fewer pressing of the cassette format than the vinyl one making it harder to find, but surprisingly enough, cheaper.

The cassette is valued at around £100 for a factory sealed copy, but chances are you’ll pick it up for a lot less than this. While researching it, I found copies going between $50-$90 (sorry for all the currency jumps, depends on the value I see). Because the value isn’t as high, the cassette has managed to avoid the counterfeit craze so copies sold are genuinely authentic…unless the seller is stealing images like the story above. Again, always request pictures, always ensure the pictures are clear and all sides of the cassette are re-taken with matching back grounds and no paint touch ups have been carried out.

Lots more pictures of the cassette can be found below in the gallery.

CD

Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide was never originally released on CD. Around 2003, it was released in CD format with Appetite For Destruction (original cover) as part of a Guns N’ Roses boxset. Bottom line, any CD of LLAS is not from the original 1986 pressing.

In Brief

Do not despair, you’ll find a copy. The majority of the versions I’ve seen (that aren’t LIES) are generally originals and the so called counterfeit scare does not seem to be as prevalent as most people assume. A lot of the scares are false and as long as you look out for the following on the 12”, you can’t go too wrong.

  • Make Sure you’re not buying LIES. Remember – Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide does not have any bar-codes any where on the cover or record. If you see a bar-code, it is not LLAS
  • The only white text on the back cover should be the song titles, any white shading on the E.P.’s title is LIES and not legit.
  • Matrix Numbers & STERLING machine stamp: Although they’re hard to photograph, you should try to buy a copy that you can see the matrix numbers and STERLING stamp printed. Collectors of the EP have reported fake copies do not contain the STERLING stamp so this is a great indicator to go by.
  • Ageing: Personally, I stay away from shrink wrapped, unopened versions of the EP because you’ll pay roughly $400 for one and there’s no way of telling what’s inside without opening the shrink wrap which instantly devalues the record. A lot of sellers provide the original shrink wrap and if it’s been opened, you can request photos. The record should appear aged (well it is 25 years old, going on 26 (as of Nov, 2011). Perfect pristine copies should be avoided when possible (unless you really need that mint condition look)
  • Back Cover Fold: According to some sources, official copies have a fold on the bottom left hand corner where you can see the image from the front. This is not 100% accurate and we do not endorse this a strict ‘must-have’ for buying this album. You should see part of the image folded under the back cover, but it should not be visible when staring at the back cover from a birds eye view.
  • Thumbnails: Do not buy from a seller using thumbnail (small) images. Make sure you at least get decent high-grade pictures before purchasing. Also remember to check the consistency of the background in each image. If they’ve photographed a genuine copy for sale, they won’t move it around the world for each snap so the background should be the same in each picture. When requesting new pic, ask for them to be taken in the same location the first batch were to make sure the seller has the item.

I hope this guide helps you find a genuine copy for your collection. I took a long time to gather this information and will provide updates if and when I have them. It’s a wonderful piece to own and every GN’R collector should have it, just a shame some bastards have made it so difficult. There are always people waiting to take advantage of you but if you put in the work and ‘have a little patience’, you’ll be fine. Good Luck!

Update: 15th Nov 2011.
As a safety check, I’ve posted a link to this article on Heretodaygonetohell.com ‘s message board. User ‘williambailey‘ has kindly sent on some detials about the Live ?!*@ Like A Suicide EP’s release that he got from former Guns N’ Roses manager, Alan Niven which you’ll find interesting. Thanks williambailey for sending this on!

Live Like A Suicide was only manufactured on vinyl and cassette, total number of both items was, to my best memory 25,000 units, which I sold to Important records, an indy distributor of the day. They were manufactured by Warner Bros on my request, with care to ensure there were no markings whatsoever to link the discs to Geffen or their manufacturer. [Of course, the fact that the band were already signed to a major was somehow overlooked as I got these out in the guise of an indy record. The $40,000 I got from Important funded the first foray into Europe, Hamburg, Dusseldorf and the first three Marquee shows - and the momentum was thus begun].

AXL ROSE: The Legend

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , , on October 30, 2011 by Tickets There

Well folks, Guns N’ Roses are well and truly back on home soil. Two dates into their 2011 US tour, the first State wide tour in five years and they’re kicking ass. So far the group have played two shows (Orlando (28th) & Miami (29th)) and things are going well. The shows are almost full, the band sound incredible and Axl Rose is playing a blinder. Their first show in Orlando delivered 23 tracks including Chinese Democracy favourites and standard classics (including both Don’t Cry and Estranged), 7 seven solos and two instrumental jams. For US fans, this is the tour they’ve been waiting for.

Eddie Trunk was all over Twitter last night for their Miami gig. According to him, 80% of the crowd looked too young to have seen the original line-up showing that most of the haters have finally f**ked off and Guns are still having no issues filling seats. They came on stage at midnight and played for over three hours, delighting fans and pissing off the arena’s vendors. Of course, who cares about the vendors? They’ll get overtime – fans get an amazing show.

So why is Axl a legend? Well last night he gave his first proper interview in Christ knows how long for VH1. Eddie and his team had to wait until 06:00am for Axl and the guys to show but it was worth it. Guns gave an hour long interview that’s set to air on November 11th in the US. Love that man, last time he gave interviews was on-line on several GN’R forums a few months after the release of Chinese Democracy. He came on, without warning and spent hours on each site answering anything and everything that was put to him.

So, they’re back. Fans are loving it and there’s a whole tour to go. Guns N’ Roses baby, it’s not a band – it’s a life choice: RESPECT!

***UPDATE – 16th Nov. *** LAS VEGAS & L.A. Tour Dates Added***

Sorry for the recent silence folks – will do a proper update this evening, For now it’s time for Los Angeles and Las Vegas to get excited cause Guns N’ Roses are coming to town. The band have announced shows for December 21st (@ The Forum, LA) and 31st (The Joint, Las Vegas) so get your Christmas and New Year’s all within a few hours’ drive of each other….and several days apart. What am I talking about? Who knows!

Oh, and Axl hasn’t ruled out the option of re-uniting with the old line-up if Guns get inducted to the Rock ‘n’ Roll hall of fame. He knows some fans want to see it and isn’t against the suggestion.

***UPDATE – 1st Nov. *** Axl Rose Battling Bronchitis – But The Show Must Go On ***

According to blabbermouth (who in turn credit it to an insider from Guns N’ Roses management) has leaked that Axl Rose has been battling bronchitis and ‘Montezuma’s Revenge’ for the past few weeks. For those of you who don’t know, Montezuma’s Revenge is a nice way of saying ‘travellers diarrhea’ which Axl himself confirmed he had in a recent posting on his twitter account.

Despite this, Axl and the Guns have been kicking ass and taking names in Orlando, Miami and they’re set to do the same again tonight in Greenville, South Carolina at a special Halloween show at the Bi-Lo Centre. The last two shows have toppled the three hour mark with Axl and DJ Ashba even stopping by a sleepy VH1 crew from ‘That Metal Show’ to give an hour long interview.

America, if you haven’t bought tickets for this tour yet then you deserve a slap!

***UPDATE – 31st Oct. *** Happy Halloween Guns N’ Roses fans ***

Wishing all you fans and the band a very Happy Halloween.Hope you like this very special Axl Rose / GN’R Logo pumpkin that cause my hand much throbbing :)

***UPDATE – 30th Oct. *** US Tour: 2 Dates in! ***

Well folks, they’re home! Guns N’ Roses kicked off their first US tour in five years on Friday night with a stunning 2.5 hour show at Orlando, Florida. The set included 23 songs, 5 solos and 2 jams. According to reports from fans Guns sounded amazing, blowing the crowd away. Just read the comments on the Orlando Sentinel for poof. Included in the set were Chinese Democracy classic including Better, There Was A Time, Sorry, Madagascar and Chinese Democracy as well as fan favourites Don’t Cry, Estranged, Rocket Queen, You Could Be Mine and of course ..the usual :) . Excellent set and an excellent comeback from the band.

But they didn’t stop there, last night the band headlined Miami American Airline’s Arena and played an equally stunning show again with no muss, no fuss; just good old fashioned Guns N’ Roses rock ‘n’ roll. Long may it continue! The official GN’R facebook has lots of tasty snaps for ya’ll to check out. Also, several new Canadian dates and a handful of additional American ones have been announced over the past coule of weeks. Tickets There apologizes for the delay getting these up – work I’m afraid and lots of it has stopped us doing anything else. Never fear, we’ll get there.

***UPDATE – 12thOct. *** FAT / OBESE / VOICE LOST / UNRECOGNIZABLE / LOOKS AND SOUNDS HORRIBLE / FAT AXL ***

I think it’s time to get something straight that’s annoying Tickets There and probably a lot of other Guns N’ Roses fans. Axl Rose is not fat, obese, unrecognizable. He doesn’t look horrible, his voice isn’t gone…etc, etc. The people writing this shite are called the media (and dick heads). The media make money of Axl Rose by focusing only on the negative and tearing them to shreds. Nobody ever hears about all of the fantastic shows Guns N’ Roses play because the media couldn’t be arsed talking about them. They like the controversy, the juice and they’ll suck the blood of the this band as long as they can because, well; Guns N’ Roses are the band people love to hate.

For instance, now the tabloids and online blogs are claiming Axl is fat and unrecognizable on the current tour. He looked exactly the same last year when they played Europe – not sure what the story is but if they’re expecting to see a 49 year old man looking the same as he did in 1987 (when he was 24) then that’s really their problem isn’t it?

As for losing his voice, Guns have played four shows on their current South American tour (Rio, Santiago, La Plata and Rosario). The last three have gone extremely well and you need only listen to the videos to see for yourself. Rio was first and Axl didn’t have his best night. I believe you’ll find that most musicians will say the first night of a tour is never the best (never-f**king-ever actually). Maybe it should be taken for granted that Axl, like all humans may get nerves and needs time to warm up and get comfortable. it can’t be easy; jumping on stage, day 01 of tour and play to 300,000 people for two hours in the pissing rain. Get off his back or have the deceny to trwat every band the same if you must bitch.

As for the bands tardiness, well what can I say? Oh, I could say that after two decades of late shows you are a f**king retard of the highest proportions to expect anything else. If you seriously (and I mean seriously) expect GN’R to be punctual after two decades of controversy and late gigs then you really are a total loss and a dreg of mankind. I cannot get over the sher rampant stupidity of anyone that would expect this band to be on time after everything they’ve done to convince the whole world that they’ll never change. You are a total moron and you possibly need to be sterilized or shot to stop you from infecting the rest of the race with … well, whatever the hell is making you that thick. My god, sea lions learn faster than you, monkeys, snails, brick walls, dirt – everything in the world has more intelligence than you and your kind.

Now for Obese comments (you f**king pricks! Wonder how the public would react if you just started snapping regular punters in the streets a couple of pounds overweight and called them obese in the press? There’d be outrage! Axl doesn’t look for media attention and avoids it like the plague so why focus on him?). Below is a picture of an obese man(left) and Axl Rose from the Chile gig on October 5th 2011 (right). Does he look obese? Does he look terrible? No, he looks a lot younger than 49 and he’s rocking the place. Did you hear about that? No – why? Because of everything in the opening paragraph.

The haters have nothing better to do with their lives than stir shit. Axl doesn’t let it get to him and that’s an example for us all. Fuck the haters, do your own thing. Heeding that advise, this is my last word on it.

***UPDATE – 10thOct. *** Facebook Fun & More U.S. Tour Dates Confirmed

‘Love them / hate them - they ain’t changing no matter what’ seems to be the message coming from the Guns camp in their latest FaceBook update. In a posting on Saturday (Oct. 8th) the band reaffirmed that anyone who has trouble staying up late for a hard rock concert has no business being there (agreed). Here it is in full,

Love it Hate it Accept it Debate it – You want 8 o’clock shows go find F-R-I-E-N-D-S or hit a cinema somewhere.. or you wanna be informed go catch the 10 o’clock news.. this is Rock N’ Roll! Treat yourself don’t cheat yourself thinking you’re gonna go to school or work or whatever you “normally” do the next day. Oh and remember before you get high and never want to come down. “you can have anything you want but you better not take it from me!” This is Guns N’Roses and when the time is right the stage will ignite. Looking forward to sharing that with rockers soon

What do you say to that? Well Tickets There has to agree. We’ve been through it and you know what – Guns comes on and kick ass. if you need an early sleep or have somewhere to be – then don’t go and see Guns N’ Roses. No-one’s making you so deal with it.

Well folks, they’re back! Guns N’ Roses are not long off the stage from their Rick In Rio IV headlining slot. It’s very difficult to get a proper set-list at the moment but they apparently played all the tracks from the 2010 tour with the added bonus of ‘Estranged’ being played for the first time in 18 years and ‘One In A Million’.

One of the pics included above (which have all been robbed from Chinese Democracy.com - Click for lots n lots more) is tonight’s sound desk set-list which includes two new totals ‘Going Down’ and ‘Riff Raff’. Whether these were played or not is still a mystery, but Tickets There doubts it as the boards and twitter would have lit up….not that they didn’t. A whooping 50% of all tweets for several hours there were Guns N Roses related – they still got it!

*** UPDATE – 12th June *** – Guns N’ Roses Announce Chile and Argentina Tour Dates
Would love to announce that you heard it here first, but Tickets There’s been busy this week enjoying the greatest few days of 2011 (so far). While we were off our old pals, GN’R announced a couple of South American shows in October that will coincide with their already announced headlining slot at Rock In Rio IV.

That’s right, they’ll be hitting the Movistar Arena in Santiago on October 5 (Chile) and the Estadio Único de La Plata (just outside Buenos Aires) on October 8th (Argentina). Tickets are on sale for both shows later this month.

Tickets There is delighted to see the band hitting the road again so soon and hopefully we’ll have more announcements in the coming weeks.

*** UPDATE – 11th May *** – DJ Ashba Hopes Guns N’ Roses Will Play US This Year
I Read the news today Oh Boy – Mr. DJ Ashba, a man we can all agree is a legend, has spoken (a few times recently – but we’ve been lazy) about the chances of Guns N’ Roses playing the US this year. As you may have noticed, the April – May dates we posted below aren’t going ahead (unless they’re very good at keeping secrets. Who knows, maybe they’ve played a million shows but forgot to let people in or tell anyone about them).

In a comment to Metal Injection at the recent Revolver Golden Gods Awards, Ashba made the following remark about the chances of Guns N’ Roses playing more dates this year.

“Absolutely,” he replied. “We just booked [Brazil’s] Rock in Rio [festival] for October 2, but there’s talk we’re gonna be going out way sooner. And hopefully we’re gonna be [playing dates] here in the States this year. I’m hoping. That’s the plan.”

I suppose the folks in the US must be getting pretty tired of these reports but as we’ve said before, be patient. They will play eventually and it’ll be one hell of a tour when they do. Maybe everyone go out, buy a copy of Chinese Democracy, forget the old guns and embrace the new sound (or stop listening to GN’R is you can’t dig it) and the band will be there in no time.

Thanks to GNRDaily.com(the greatest GN’R site on the net) for the story.

*** UPDATE – 29th March *** – Guns N’ Roses to Headline ROCK IN RIO 4

Oh yeah, the boys (Guns N’ Roses – Duh) are going for Brazil this year to headline the Rock In Rio festival on October 2nd. They’ll be playing the festival with old pals Metallica, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and lots more. Tickets on sale now.

This is the first confirmed show by the band for 2011 with the US tour that was suggested below looking less and less likely to kick off next week (Sarcasm). Don’t worry US, they’ll play there at some point – just don’t act like a pack of assholes when they do and Uncle Axl will reward you with more frequent tours.

Don’t go getting too excited yet folks but the good lads at GNRDaily.com have posted an extensive list of rumoured US / Canadian tour dates that the legendary Guns N’ Roses just might be embarking on in 2011.

MySpace Review – O Emperor

Posted in IRISH NOISE!, Music, MySpace Review with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on January 24, 2011 by Tickets There

That’s right, another one of Ireland’s hotly tipped underground acts we’ve never seen or heard before. What do we actually do with our time you ask? Well, we drink a fair bit (although not that much, only 3 times this month including new years eve), watch a lot of TV, work on our paint city and listen to a lot of Megadeth, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses and read. Not much time left in that hectic, crazy schedule to be going out and just, *tusks / grunt-laugh/shakes head and frowns* listen to music for the hell of it! Anyways, we’re here now and that’s the important thing and we have some good news! We’re liking O Emperor a lot more than we thought we would. Now for ya!

Never seen them, haven’t heard their album.

Don’t Mind Me reminds us of a song you’d hear in one of those eighties New York films with driving or a small bar. Starts nicely and improves with age. For a gentle, serene mood this is your baby. Po is a liverier wee number. Faster, louder but still nice and relaxed (a word that will be repeated in this review). Sedalia is again ‘relaxed’ (real journalists / bloggers manage to use a little thing called vocabulary guys. Just a hint – Ed), nice on the ears and a very pleasant experience. Recommended so far.

The Fat Lady starts the second half of tunes in an even more sombre, quiet and uneventful (not necessarily a negative use of the word uneventful, just not a whole pile of complexity or action in this case) than the previous three. Very deep reaching piece of music that some have no doubt been captivated and transformed by. Tickets There is in quite a chirpy mood today so no depression here. Still quite enjoyable though and it’ll definitely be on our ‘depressed as hell – need reconciliation and / or companionship from non-in the room human’ list. Heisenberg follows much the same suit except it’s a little too over the top on the dull factor. Quite short which we always see a bonus point to songs we don’t like but just too sad. We need a little piece along the lines of Po now.

To The Sea is last and it’s got life! It’s no Springsteen now, leppin’ about the place or anything but it’s got blood in it’s veins and delivered enough of what we were looking for to finish things on a good note. O Emperor, recommended. If you’re having a nice relaxing Monday, then give them a go,. If you’re stressed out, give them a go. If you’re massively under the weather and ‘bad thoughts’ are spiralling out of control in your warped head, then have a listen to Whitesnake. When you’re all happy and better, then give O Emperor a go. O Emperor MySpace

Axl Rose Sues Activision over Guitar Hero III

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , on November 25, 2010 by Tickets There

Well, we weren’t going to mention this but we decided not to take the Perez Hilton approach and only report the good but our benefactor (speaking of which, where’s the check Mr. Rose?) has decided it’s finally time to sue Guitar Hero III. Well, he’s suing the makers of the game Activision for $20 Million (Yikes)..

Legal Mumbo-jumbo from Skip Miller, Rose’s attorney- “This lawsuit is about protecting Guns N’ Roses and ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ and is about holding Activision accountable for its misuse of these incredibly valuable assets.” He further adds, “The relief we are seeking is disgorgement of profits and compensatory and punitive damages.”

They’ve also got some other stuff in there about Sweet Child O’Mine being used in Guitar Hero II and something along the lines of Slash’s character not being allowed to associate himself with Guns N’ Roses..I don’t know, who cares? It’s good old uncle Axl doing what he does best, pissing people off.

Personally, we at Tickets There think this is a message to anyone who thought the Duff McKagan reunion in London may become more widespread. If we hear anymore, we’ll let ye know (expect a Wikipedia update in 5 years that the case was settled out of court and a comment from Slash either saying ‘I don’t know what Axl’s doing’ or ‘I Can’t comment on that’)

DUFF McKAGAN PLAYS WITH GUNS N’ ROSES IN LONDON

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on October 14, 2010 by Tickets There

Can barely believe it myself folks but original Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan got up on stage with the band tonight to play You Could Be Mine, Lies favourite Nice Boys, Knockin’ On Heavens Door (featuring Duff on Guitar) and Patience (featuring Duff on Tambourine) at the second sold out night in London’s O2 Arena.

Apparently Axl Rose announced “There Was This Guy At The End Of My Hallway Playing All This Loud Music & Shit. Who The Fuck? Oh! It’s Duff!”. So it seems Mr. McKagan was staying at the same hotel as Axl and the two decided on giving their UK fans a little treat.

This is mega for anyone underestimating the significance. It’s the first time since 93 that Duff and Axl have played together live and might signal an end to the bitterness and rivalry at last. No-ones calling for a reunion, but it would be nice if those guys could patch things up. They did great work together and should get along. Fair play to both Axl and Duff tonight and to Tommy and the rest of the guys for standing back and letting the crowd lap it up. Christ I’d give almost anything to have been there!

Duff ain’t the only X-guns to take the stage with the new line-up. Original guitarist Izzy Stradlin played several shows with Guns in 2006.

GUNS N’ ROSES: Belfast & Dublin 2010 – The Good, The Bad & The BLITZ! (Live Review)

Posted in Gig Review, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 2, 2010 by Tickets There

“STOP! Right, here’s the Deal. One more bottle – we go home. It’s up to you. We would like to Stay, you want us to stay? We want to stay; we want to have some fun. If you don’t want to have fun all you gotta do is let us know and we got no problem, we’ll go on our way. Start Over.”

– Axl Roses, Dublin September 1st 2010.

What ever problems Guns N’ Roses have had over the past twenty years, today more than ever it is very, very unpopular to be their fan in Ireland. Just 24 hours after an amazing performance in Belfast, last night’s O2 area show almost ended in total chaos when the band left the stage after just twenty minutes due to bottles and objects being thrown on stage and at band members despite a very firm warning from Axl earlier in the set that the band would leave if another object was thrown.

The Bad: Let’s get the Elephant Out of the Way…

Dublin fans become irritated when the band turned up almost 40 minutes late for their set, not bad in normal Guns N’ Roses time but more than the gathering of greatest hits fans in attendance were used to. The final 20 minutes of waiting had been filled with a mixture of booing, complaints and chants from the restless, now tired, bored and drink filled crowd. When the band finally took the stage, their opening song Chinese Democracy did little to calm the audience down. Even the opening chords to their second song, Welcome To The Jungle were meet with an even mixture of boos and cheers. After three objects were directly thrown at Axl, the show was stopped for Axl’s warning before the band kicked into WTTJ again.

It’s So Easy followed, where a pissed off Axl could be seen to give more than a normal effort into the line “I see you standing there, you think you’re so cool. Why don’t you just, Fuck Off!’ flipping of the remaining nay sayers in the audience. The classic Mr. Brownstone went off without a hitch but still didn’t relieve the tension in the room and Axl’s unapologetic Sorry from Chinese Democracy landed like a lead balloon in the room. At this point, Axl introduced guitarist Richard Fortus for a solo and as he turned around to depart the stage, he was once again struck by an object from the crowd. Axl simply turned and said goodbye to the crowd, announced the show was over and the band walked off.

You don’t know why, I won’t act the way you think I should…. To hell with the pressure, I’m not cavin’ in.
- Guns N’ Roses –
Sorry (Chinese Democracy, 2008)

This was meet by massive booing from the now pissed off crowd. The lights remained dark and people that weren’t roaring insults at the stage were deep in GN’R conversation about the possibilities of the band actually returning to the stage. As most GN’R fans know, Axl will almost never return to a stage after walking off and right now, Tickets There cannot think of one time he’s actually done before last night.

After a period of waiting, an official spokesperson announced the crew were working through some “technical difficulties”, an announcement that was meet with a burst of laughter from the crowd. Seeing the tension. Denis Desmond from MCD took the mike to inform the crowd they were trying their best to get Guns N’ Roses back on stage and asked the crowd for calm. The House lights were turned on and several thousand people departed assuming the show was over. Outside, security guards scrambled to remove all fencing from around the arena and smoking areas for fear of a mass exit and possible riot while departing fans roared their disapproval at Axl’s treatment of the crowd. Back inside the bars and merch stands were closed, fans stood around not knowing what to do, smoking openly in the middle of the floor unable to restrain their anger towards the band, especially lead singer Axl.

Out of nowhere, the house-lights were turned off, the cameramen took their positions around the stage and the band reappeared, jumping around and smiling. Axl begrudgingly retook the stage and the band sombrely started into Live And Let Die, which was met with a nervous relief and quiet excitement from the remaining crowd members. Axl stood at the back of the stage, away from the shower of bottles many in the crowd were sure would arrive if the band actually returned. Fortunately the lesson seemed to work as no more objects were thrown at the stage and the booing seemed to stop completely. Axl remained at the back of stage for almost the entire night moving only to walk back stage occasionally during song breaks and solos and to take his piano for November Rain (not including his solo this time).

Like the majority of the crowd, Axl looked upset, pissed off and in no form to be on stage after the fiasco that had occurred earlier in the night but his voice was strong, soaring, deep and shirking. Every note was delivered perfectly and had he been more animated, no-one in the audience would have known there’d ever been a problem.

Leaving the stage around 01:00am, the band had managed to play almost their entire set and Axl once again spoke to the crowd to wish us a good night. The band forwent their usual collective bow and Frank Sinatra’s My Way came over the PA as the house lights lit up. Show over, people left quietly in a mixed state of disillusionment, disappointment tiredness and for some, a secret thrill that they had attended what will surely become a highly talked about, notorious Guns show. For others, the circus of media attention awaiting the next day seemed like a hassle not needed after a night like that. Some fans just left happy enough to have seen the band play their full set.

The BLITZ!: It wasn’t all bad, quite the opposite in fact…

In stark contrast to the Dublin show, Guns N’ Roses performance in Belfast was immaculate, euphoric, rapturously well received and quite simply, amazing. It was a testimonial that the current line-up and Axl can come together so perfectly and deliver a nights entertainment that few can measure when fans in attendance are respectful to the band.

Taking the stage roughly 35 minutes after support band Danko Jones finished their set, Guns came out with all ..ehm, guns blazing. Chinese Democracy blew the arena to pieces and the mere sight of the iconic front man was enough to lift everyone to their feet and explode with delight that Guns were here, they were on stage and they were kicking ass.

Welcome To The Jungle blitzed the Odyssey Arena as all fans, new and old, diehard and greatest hits folks jumped for the ceiling with Axl dominating every corner of the stage. The claims that the singer was bloated unfit and unable to sing turned out to be total rubbish and became so laughable, few could even remember there ever was any negativity in the press. It’s So Easy and Mr. Brownstone only strengthened the audiences excitement and sheer joy that the band were firing on all cylinders, delivering an already highly memorable performances.

Sorry went over exceptionally well for a new ballad after such an explosive start and Richard Fortus’ solo brought him closer to the crowds hearts, making that initial step to being accepted into the old fans hearts. Live and Let Die turned into a 14,000 strong sing along and This I Love was again warmly welcomed before the classic Rocket Queen once again brought the crowd to its full force fighting feet. A piano solo from Dizzy Reed calmed the now drink/breath starved audience before the band returned to the stage to deliver a note perfect rendition of Street of Dreams, one of Chinese Democracy’s real highlights. Axl smiled the entire way through the show, obviously ecstatic that the headlines from the weekend were behind him and Guns were back to doing what they do best, putting on the greatest show on earth. He looked great, sounded great and with occasional costume changes, he made this every bit a Guns N’ Roses show we’d ever heard about – without the controversy.

You Could Be Mine and Sweet Child O Mine ripped through the arena like a tornado with the crowd showing pure excitement in every form. Moshing broke out towards the front, crowd surfing started, everyone with a pack of cigarettes in the middle broke them out and for the first time in a long time, we knew we were at a real rock n roll show. Axl arrived in stage to a disco ball styled Roland piano for a nurturing solo before causing mass eruption with the opening notes to the classic November Rain, which on its own made the ticket price worth every penny. The band were as tight as they come, the stage show was amazing with explosions, towering flames and visuals for almost every performance.

Ron Thal’s Pink Panther solo added an inspiring, comical touch to the night with the crowd singling along to the familiar themes before new song, Better turned up to fight Chinese Democracy’s corner and win. Knockin’ On Heavens Door and the amazing Nightrain finished the main set and saw Guns temporally depart.

Returning on his own, Ron Thal again took a solo, delighting fans with an instrumental rendition of Don’t Cry before the band accompanied him for a truly spectacular performance of Madagascar. One final instrumental jam lead the way for tonight’s closing anthem, Paradise City which saw crowd and band alike explode enthusiastically as the arena became engrossed in pyro displays, red and silver confetti and the closing moments of one of the best shows most of us had ever seen.

Guns remained on stage to give three appreciative bows to the audience who stood strong to rousing applaud the band for their incredible performance that delivered everything a fan could ever ask for from any live band. Guns left as heroes, fans left delighted, filled with adrenaline after more than two hours of classic anthems from one of the worlds greatest bands.

The Good: …?…

Guns N’ Roses let alot fans down last night. Some fans let Guns N’ Roses down last night. Axl and co made people wait over 40 minutes (more than an hour including set-up time) for the show to start. The crowd greeted the band with boos (fair enough, Axl has to have come to expect this. It’s as much a part of the show as the late starts themselves). On top of that however, certain crowd members threw multiple objects at the stage with 2/3 hitting Axl directly. For the safety of himself and the band, Axl made his position clear and someone chose to ignore this.

There is no excuse for throwing objects at a stage, what ever they might be. There is never any reason to throw anything at any performer in the middle of a crowd trying to do his job, no matter how angry or upset you are. He was there, the band was playing and sounded great and people couldn’t let it go. No band should ever put up with that kind of attitude from the crowd and ignoring it and carrying on is not the answer. Bands who let things like happen are only asking for much worse trouble.

Axl was hit straight on with a bottle during welcome to the Jungle and ignored it. After a second object hit him when his back was turned he warned the crowd. After a third object hit him, again when his back was turned; he left. Any reasonable human being with an ounce of cop on knows he was fully in the right. He would have put up with the booing, the chants and the insults but he’s not stupid enough to become a target for every drunken attendee standing in the mass, blacked out crowd cowardly throwing objects at him. They may have been plastics, but stand there long enough; god knows what else would have appeared.

On the other hand, Axl displayed his happy, gracious and true front man powers in Belfast, performing a truly outstanding and memorable show. That that will sadly be completely eclipsed because of last night but for the 14,000 that showed up, we know exactly what Guns are capable of when the crowd and band are in good form. Dublin missed out on a great opportunity and though Guns played, it wasn’t the show it could have been. The media didn’t seem to care when things went right one night but they can’t get enough of today’s headlines. Hopefully some will calm down and see the unevenness the media creates around the bands image and the knock on effect this has on people attending the shows. Others won’t and will bad mouth Gn’R for the rest of their days. What ever happens, this year Ireland got to see every side of hard rocks greatest band, the good, the bad and the Blitz!

Guns N’ Roses – Dublin, September 1st 2010: Message From Tickets There

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , , , , , on September 2, 2010 by Tickets There

***Review of Dublin & Belfast Now Posted***

Without rushing into a review, please allow Tickets There one quick comment to all the fans in Dublin who attended tonight’s Guns N’ Roses gig.

Go fuck yourselves, each and every fucking one of you. Anyone that booed, anyone that spent the entire night (not just the 30/50 mins we were waiting) complaining, bitching and moaning about the current line-up, the Chinese Democracy Album, the headlines from Reading (not Leeds or Belfast off course, no fun in discussing the gigs that go brilliantly) and especially every cunt in that crowd that threw bottles at the band – you are scum. You are total scum and Tickets There can only hope you receive the same, the exact same fucking treatment the next day you arrive at work – if yer capable of holding down jobs you total wastes of space.

Fuck Dublin, Fuck tonight’s crowd and fuck anyone that tries to defend the shit Guns had to put up with tonight. You are dicks!

Axl Rose – Asshole or Hero? NME Ask The Question!

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 29, 2010 by Tickets There

**Before Reading This Article – Be Fair and Head over to NME and Read the original post by clicking this sentence**

Tim Chester over at the English music scenes answer to a cheap gossip rag, New Musical Express has posted a question based piece entitled, ‘Axl Rose – Asshole or Hero?’. Now normally the NME isn’t worth reading, replying to or taking any notice of at all, well not unless you want to know which shop Pete Doherty just walked out of or what brand of cigarettes Amy Winehouse smokes (Thanks Daily Gossip!). But this time Tickets There is taking the liberty of branding the author, the magazine and their staff a bunch of over the hill, raised on camp indie bullshit-artists, with as much right to write about Rock N’ Roll as a Nazi has to a fair hearing.

The Facts: Reading 2010

Guns N’ Roses played Reading on Friday night. In the week leading up to the event, NME spearheaded reporting a speech from Reading /Leeds organizer Melvin Been that the Guns had been issued a warning that their stage times must be adhered to after local councils and police made a similar warning to Melvin a co.

The band were scheduled to arrive on stage at 09:30pm, eventually arriving at 10:30 -an hour late. Their original cut off time was 11:30pm and they managed to play on until 12:00. When the band tried to return for an encore, their sound was cut so the band staged a sit in protest after leading the crowd through an ‘acoustic’ rendition of Paradise City, which saw nearly 90,000 fans singing along and chanting ‘Let Them Play‘ and ‘Fuck You Reading‘(Not a secret, watch the videos). They eventually left the stage after Axl made a comment the band would not play Leeds after the treatment they received at Reading by ‘those responsible’

Coming on Late Ain’t right is it?

For the past twenty years, Guns N’ Roses have had a very obvious, very public, well documented and very much lampooned and hated reputation for showing up late by heritage fans and the music press. In fact, the writer shows a knowledge for this by highlighting (as usual) the low points and incidents of previous GN’R tours, in no great detail or context off course as that might involve some real journalism on their behalf – God forbid. For anyone to act surprised or angry at the group for turning up late has a vendetta because Axl Rose and the band have never done anything to make you think they’ve changed.

Do these people still act surprised when they get wet in the shower? Because they seem to have no comprehension for the flippin’ obvious.

Our Response – Axl Rose – Asshole or Hero?

Rock music has lost it’s way – Rock is now dead. Rock N Roll hall of fame, award shows – heritage bands reuniting, greatest hits set-lists, staying together for the ‘career’, money, album after album of repeated glory day styles, follow the rules, adapt to the industry’s expectations, the fans expectations, pander to the press, bad mouth your band mates and still stick together because there’s no-where else to go. Bands are old, rock is old and it’s fans, it’s bands and the industry built around them to exploit and drain what ever profits it can has finally destroyed what was once a perfect machine for encouraging rebellion. A style designed to give kids a voice to express their views, their difference of opinion and the things the mean the most to them.

Rock N’ Roll, Punk, Rap, Heavy Metal all evolved in each generation to suit new fans, new young people and their lives but the spirit of rock n roll has always been carried over and that message is simple – Don’t Follow The Rules and fuck society, fuck the industry, the government and fuck you, I’ll do what I want.

That message has become a cliché, a punch line for the marketing and advertising industry every time a twenty two year old college grad is given the new Motorhead album to push. The people running things, the bands involved and the new breed of fans, raised on ageing fogies playing greatest hits tours every year while struggling younger bands repeatedly get passed up so rich musicians can make more money. These days bands have to sound like Coldplay or Arcade Fire to get ahead, music that your gran, neighbours and teachers can sit back with, sip wine to and discuss the banking crisis. Very rock n’ roll eh.

Then you take Guns N’ Roses. Old Guns N’ Roses. Slash, Duff, Axl, Izzy and Steven and Appetite for Destruction. Sweet Child O Mine, Welcome to The Jungle and Paradise City. massive. Then Later with Don’t Cry, November Rain, Live and Let Die, You Could be Mine…just as massive. They had it all and could still be out there today, like every single other heritage rock band making money, touring Appetite for Destruction and a choice selection from what ever Appetite rip off they released that year and pandering to the fans every whim and wish. The so called ‘Most Dangerous Band‘ could be there in the O2, top hat, American flag shorts and all, like nothing ever changed in the past twenty years.

Wake the fuck up, things change and people move on.

Slash is gone, playing American anthems to stadiums, selling guitars for Gibson, living up in every respect to the stereotype cast on him. Discussing reunions and his love for Axl. Duff is around, playing in second rate punk bands, writing for Playboy (he’s a journalist now don’t ya know) and still playing with Slash and Matt Sorum in Guns N’….sorry, I mean Velvet Revolver. He likes to discuss reunions occasionally aswell. Steven, poor Steven plays in Adler’s Appetite, a band that until recently exclusively played Appetite For Destruction at every show. Again, he mentions the idea of a re-union at every given opportunity.

Axl does not discuss reunions, he does not give interviews, he does not play national anthems to baseball stadiums full of 40/50 year old Americans who point and remember he was the guy who sang Sweet Child O’ Mine. He keeps the band fresh. He works on his music in his own time, he tours and plays shows ranging from 2.5-3.5 hours with a new band of incredibly tight musicians playing half hits and half new material. He goes on stage when he’s ready, he releases his music when he’s ready and he does what he likes, when he wants to do it. Not when people tell him he should do it.

He makes no secret of this and anyone that tries to argue that is an opinionated, but faceless moron following the sheep and the lead taken by people set out against Axl for personal grudges. Ya see, musicians who don’t pander to the press become enemies. People who won’t do what they’re told become a nuisance. and people who tell you to fuck off after you’ve devoted yourself to them for years on end get pissed off.

Axl Rose does what he likes when he likes. He doesn’t set out to piss off fans or anyone else but anyone turning up at a Guns show expecting to see the band on time is a straight up retard and fuck knows where they’d get the idea that was going to happen. It might, it’s not like they never turn up on time but you only hear of the occasions when they don’t. It’s not like every other band in the world always turn up on time, but then again – they don’t make as interesting reading as Axl.

He doesn’t pander to press, to fans, to x-band mates, to record companies or to anyone who else who tells him what he should be dong. He’s nearly 50 years old and he knows very well what he’s doing and how he wants it done. he knows when he’s ready to walk on stage to give the best performance he can and he knows when his musics ready. The Press, managers, fans and no-one else knows this because they all suck off the ‘product’ he’s giving the world. if you don’t like it – fuck off, if you question it – fuck off and if you have a problems guess what – Fuck Off!

Rock N’ Roll is rebellion and Axl Rose rebels against pretty much every rule in the book, whether it’s the industry making them, Society making them, the fans making them or his band making them. He will give you a fantastic show as long as you don’t throw shit at him (by the way, how many of you would remain in your chairs at work if customers came along throwing bottles and coins at you with a spot light in your face blocking your view?? Ya, fuck off!).

Axl Rose is the last true hero of rock n roll because he’s the only one famous enough still telling pressure and rules to go fuck themselves and anyone that can’t see that has no business being a fan of rock in the first place. Fuck off and listen to Radiohead and leave Rock N Roll alone for people with some balls.

Moving On:

Guns N’ Roses play Belfast on Tuesday, Dublin on Wednesday. Don’t go if you want Slash, don’t go if you have somewhere to be after. Go if you want to see the last true icon of a rotting genre, that once gave people alot of hope before it’s originators, it’s fans and it’s spokespeople were absorbed back into the system the movement set out to defy in the first place. He might also play a few cracking tunes while you’re there.

NME – Stick to reviewing The Kings of Leon, The Libertines and The Klaxons. That seems to be as much danger as ye can handle. I hear there’s a fat, squirrel eating lesbian naked somewhere – go quick, there’s a cover due!

Guns N’ Roses: Power Cut By Reading Organizers

Posted in Music, News with tags , , , on August 28, 2010 by Tickets There

Guns N’ Roses set was cut short last night by Reading authorities after they ran over their 11:30pm curfew. Reading organizer, Melvin Benn spent most of last week shooting his mouth off to the press about the strict times being applied to Guns set and announced that if the band tried to play longer, he would pull the plug after local authorities in Reading threatened the festivals license.

After finishing the majority of their set, Guns returned to the stage for an encore around 00:00 only to find their sound cut which lead to Axl and band staging a sit in while the crowd chanted ‘Let Them Play‘. Without guitars, Guns drummer Frank Ferrer led the crowd into an ‘acoustic’ , crowd sung rendition of Paradise City and We Will Rock You. Axl and Guitarist DJ Ashba also went into the pit thanking members of the audience before returning to the stage and announcing that because of the organizers handling of the night, the band would not play Leeds tomorrow night.

Guns N’ Roses – Dublin, O2: One Month And Counting & Support Announced

Posted in General Tickets There Blog, Music, News with tags , , , , , , , , on July 31, 2010 by Tickets There

This time next month folks, the mighty Axl Rose will be bringing the ferocious, legendary Guns N’ Roses to Irish shows for two massive shows in Belfast’s Odyssey Arena August 31st and Dublin’s Point Depot (or the O2 is you will) on Sept. 1st for two nights of blistering hard rock, ginormous ballads and displays of fine musical craftsmanship from each member of the band. It’s also been announced that Canadian rockers (hate that work in that context) Danko Jones will be providing support for both shows. No Sebastian Back unfortunately but these guys will rock the place.

Now, there’s alot of bickering about Axl and the new guys (incidentally, some of the members have been with the band since the early/late nineties…so they’re not that new) and it’s time everyone moved on. The majority of music press outlets have a vendetta against Axl because unlike Slash and Duff, Axl chooses not to talk to them and become their play thing. Also, many ‘old GN’R heads’ hate Chinese Democracy simply because Slash isn’t there and it’s not a carbon reproduction of Appetite for Destruction. Many forget that the old diehards complained just as much when the Use Your Illusions came out, but that’s neither here nor there.

Don’t be fooled folks, this right here is two incredible opportunities to see one of rock n’ rolls true heroes live in the flesh. Not only is he a legend, but he’s a legend at the top of his game as Chinese Democracy is one the greatest albums released in the last ten years, you just have to forget the old sound and appreciate it for what it is. When any other band tries a new direction these days they’re praised far and wide for being different but when a rock band does it, all hell breaks loose. Does Axl care? Not one fucking bit, the man does what ever the hell he likes and that’s why we love him. Finally there’s a rock n roll front-man in the 21st century who’s not afraid of criticism and attacks from former band members, fans, record companies, the industry or the press. He does what he likes, when he likes and if you don’t like it – Fuck Off!

Young bands, young fans stand up and take notice, this is rock n roll in bodily form. Go to these shows and see the man in real life, pay homage and respect because rock stars are no longer a dime a dozen and even if they were, Axl would still lead the pack.

Guns N Roses play Dublin’s O2 This day next month, September 1st – Tickets There will be there.
